Rapper Ja Rule isn’t letting a federal probe of Murder Inc. stop his business venture

Rapper Ja Rule isn’t letting a federal probe of Murder Inc. stop his business ventures.

The Queens don has launched a film production company, Focus Vision, and promised that his first project would catapult him into film stardom. “I got a project [I’m] working on, the Eric Price story, called “Flight Of The Hawk,” he told us.

“It’s a movie that I acquired the rights to through my company. We have three studios that want to do the story so we are checking it out and seeing how we want to put it down. But that will be my break-out project. I’m doing film projects, but that movie will show people that Ja Rule, a.k.a. Jeff Atkins, can act. And I will be a very powerful figure behind the screen.”

Additionally, Ja is going to be acting in “Whore Son,” a film adaptation of street novelist Donald Goines’ book. In related news, Ja Rule recently shot a clip for “Caught Up,” the third single from his gold-selling album, R.U.L.E.

Ja Rule blows up 'SBI' crowd.

Ja Rule blows up 'SBI' crowd
INTERMISSION: HIP-HOP

SOUTH BEND The scene was set: women dressed seductively, guys in causal hip-hop wear, white tees, jeans and chains bearing emblems representing their various styles, all gathered at the Morris Performing Arts Center on Sunday night to see hip-hop crooner Ja Rule perform in South Bend.

Around 9:30 p.m., when the deejay was done hyping up the crowd, Ja Rule's voice came over the PA with his signature call-out question: "Where all my murderers?" to see who was down with his label, once known as Murder Inc., now "The Inc." for public relations reasons. As the 5-foot-6-inch-tall rapper swaggered onto the stage, he wore a look of anger or irritation. It may have been because of the lack of a full house of fans to see him perform. Or it could have been the negative comments from a man in the opera seats who sounded like he'd had a couple too many. Either way, all that went away when he sounded off for his hit parade.

As soon as the intro music to "Livin' It Up" came on, the crowd let Ja Rule know that he was welcome.

Ja Rule used the lack of a sellout crowd to provide a more personal show. If you were in the building, you could see the set of the stone in his diamond necklace from the back door.

When he performed his song "Reign," he wanted to know the nickname for the city of South Bend. He's from the Big Apple, but what about South Bend? He went down to the front row and asked South Bend resident Kevin Wilson, "What do they call this town?" Wilson screamed out "SBI!" and the crowed went crazy as if the Irish football players were about to run out of the tunnel.

With the excitement level at its highest, Ja Rule took the time to pay respect to the dead hip-hop entertainers who have inspired us all (Aayliah, Lisa Lopes, ODB). The Notorious B.I.G.'s instrumental "Juicy" playing in the background gave the crowd a chance to reflect before Ja Rule broke into "So Much Pain," his collaboration with the late Tupac Shakur. There was no pain felt, though, by the end of this concert.

The duet section of the show included "I'm Real," "Thug Lovin'," "Caught Up," "Always on Time" and "Wonderful."

Perhaps the only one disappointed was the man heckling from the opera seats because there was no comment from Ja Rule on his feud with 50 Cent and G-Unit, and apparently that is what this particular audience member wanted to hear.

Ja Rule Returns To His Roots ..

Ja Rule is raising funds for New York's most troubled teens with personally signed limited-edition Yankees Jackets.

Distribution Source : PRWeb

Date : Friday, July 08, 2005

(PRWEB) July 8, 2005 -- Now touring with his hit single "New York," rap star Ja Rule is raising funds for the city"s most troubled teens with autographed Yankee jackets featured in his music video. The signed jackets, offered exclusively through Sports Gear, are being auctioned at http://www.sportsgear-dugout.com/jarule through August with 10% of the profits benefiting Ja Rule"s L.I.F.E. Camp foundation.

"I am flattered," said W. Jon Huntley, President and CEO of Sports Gear, "It"s unusual to get to work with somebody who"s so passionate about what he"s doing and yet has had to work so hard to get there." With over 15 million albums sold worldwide and five top ten chart appearances, Ja Rule has found a way to keep a positive attitude despite a lukewarm reception to his last album and brutal criticism from rival rappers 50 cent and Eminem.

While shooting the video for "New York," Rule felt the love from fans that spilled into the streets of Queens, Harlem and the Bronx, swarming with renewed support. Rule, who grew up in Hollis in Southeast Queens, said he expects kids to get crazy when any artist visits their hood. But the outpouring of appreciation was so strong that Fat Joe, who collaborated with Rule and Jadakiss on the song, had to ask the crowds to calm down for the cops so they could finish the take.

While rap stars are often criticized for not returning to their community after they become successful, Rule is embracing his roots not only in lyrics but through his ongoing work with L.I.F.E. Camp, which benefits struggling teens that grew up on the same streets he did. L.I.F.E., which stands for "Love Ignites Freedom and Education," works with students with the poorest academic, attendance and behavior records to provide counseling, arts, literature, and extracurricular programs. Those who show the most improvement in school are rewarded with incentives like a chance to hang out with Rule, who has personally taken kids to basketball games and The Source Hip-Hop Awards in Miami.

According to Huntley, people admire those willing to risk it all to win — heroes who believe in themselves and are able to achieve greatness despite tremendous pressures.

"I guess that"s why people look at artists or professional athletes in that way. A lot of them struggled against odds and inner city issues whether it be from gangs to drugs to just being at the poverty level," Huntley said. "I think that"s what inspires people." When we wear a jacket, it"s more than something nice, more than something to keep warm or a fashion statement. People – the everyday unsung heroes – want to wear something that makes us feel our lives are greater than the individual parts.

"We look for stories, figures, athletes, stars and musicians that embody what"s going on," Huntley said.

The jacket worn by Ja Rule in the "New York" video was specially designed for the Yankees with pinstripe sleeves. Rule will personally sign and auction five of the Yankees pinstripe style along with five Yankees wool-leather collage jackets with chenille commemorative patches, which Rule and his crew loved so much they kept several for themselves. Even his bodyguard slid into a 6XL. The jackets" quality and consistent craftsmanship inspired Rule to create his own line of jackets, which Sports Gear is planning to design and launch nationwide in 2006.

Sports Gear specializes in the highest-quality, officially licensed limited-edition jackets and sportswear available at http://www.sportsgear-racing.com for Nascar fans, http://www.sportsgear-dugout.com for major league baseball apparel and http://www.sportsgear-hockey.com for NHL merchandise. Yankees jackets signed by Ja Rule are being auctioned at http://www.sportsgear-dugout.com/jarule.

Ja's New Album:

Ja Rule announced at his LA concert on Saturday night that his new album wont be dropping until early '06.

Ja Rule, Bodyguards Target Of Feds:

Federal prosecutors have set their sites on multi-platinum rapper Ja Rule in their ongoing investigation of record label The Inc. and the company’s alleged ties to Queens, New York drug dealer Kenneth “Supreme” McGriff.

According to the New York Post, Ja Rule and two bodyguards face possible federal charges including “conspiracy to commit murder,” after a shooting in December of 2004 left one man dead and another injured.

The charges stem from a December 27, 2004 incident at a club in New York where Ja Rule was celebrating a post-Christmas party.

Surveillance tape recorded Ja Rule and his entourage leaving Club LQ as William “Willie Bang Bang” Clark, 39 and Troy Moore, 37, were entering the venue.

Sources told AllHipHop.com it was well known on the streets that Clark aka “Billy Bang” and Moore were allegedly behind a string of robberies involving celebrity rap stars, including one of Foxy Brown’s brothers.

Moore is cooperating with authorities in an attempt to avoid gun charges. Also, Moore is the elder brother of Tyran “Tah Tah” Moore, who is already linked to the murder, money laundering and drug dealing probe of Irv Gotti’s record label, The Inc. by federal investigators.

Some of the incidents were never reported to police, who are investigating several other record labels and artists as well the Post reported.

Footage seized by the NYPD of the club’s parking lot captured Ja Rule’s vehicle starting to leave as Clark and Moore arrived.

The vehicle stopped as one of the bodyguards ran to the side of the saying to the other: “come with me it’s going down.”

One of the bodyguards then exited the vehicle and as Ja Rule’s vehicle pulled away, the two men open fired, fatally wounding Clark and injuring Moore.

According to the Post, authorities believe that Ja Rule’s bodyguards were enraged that the men came to the party, given their notorious reputations.

Ja Rule denied involvement in the shooting previously and his lawyer, Murray Richman also denied that his client was involved.

"There's no truth to this matter and I am confident Ja Rule has enough sense to not be involved in this type of situation," Richman told AllHipHop.com.

Sources told AllHipHop.com that an investigation into various New York Hip-Hop record labels started as early as 1996, when police noticed unnamed Brooklyn men attach themselves to rappers and other entertainers.

Soon afterwards the “Hip-Hop Intelligence Unit” was created to monitor the Hip-Hop industry in New York.

That quickly spread to other cities across the country including California, New York, Georgia and Miami, due to authorities belief that the rap industry was organizing along the lines of traditional organized crime.

Ja Rule wows Dominican crowd.

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic - Rapper Ja Rule became the first internationally known hip-hop star to perform in the Dominican Republic with a spirited concert before several thousand fans.

About 3,000 people packed into Santo Domingo's Quisqueya Stadium on Sunday night to hear the 29-year-old multi-platinum artist, far less than the 20,000 that organizers had hoped for.

The low turnout was blamed on a flight delay that forced Ja Rule to postpone the show originally scheduled for Saturday by a day.

The crowd waited patiently for two hours before Ja Rule came on stage at midnight and tore into past hits like "Holla, Holla," "Never Again" and "Pain is Love" in a well-received set that lasted just over an hour.

"I love Dominican people," the rapper told local Channel 9 television in an interview to promote the concert, billed as the first by a top international rapper in the Caribbean country.

Ja Rule was later joined on stage by actor Vin Diesel, who greeted the crowd and chatted with the rapper. Diesel was in the country scouting locations for an upcoming film.

Ja Rule, whose real name is Jeffry Atkins, has cut six albums since debuting in 1999. Although he made his name in "gangster rap," most of his biggest hits have been hip-hop inspired ballads.
