Mob Trial Casts Seagal As Witness

NEW YORK - Action-film hero Steven Seagal (news) is taking a beating in Brooklyn.

He's been labeled a liar by lawyers and mocked by alleged mobsters. And so far, in public, he's not fighting back.

It's all part of Seagal's latest role as a reluctant star witness in a Mafia trial that opened last week in Brooklyn federal court.

"You'll find out that the last thing he wanted to do was to become a witness in a case like this," prosecutor Rick Whelan told the jury.

Seagal is expected to take the witness stand at a later date by court order, infusing some glamour into an otherwise lackluster prosecution against Peter Gotti, brother of the Mafia boss John Gotti, and other accused members of the Gambino crime family. The defense hasn't waited to attack his credibility.

Seagal "is a pathological liar," defense attorney George Santangelo said during opening statements. "He has a reputation all over Hollywood for lying."

The actor, along with his lawyers and publicists, have refused to discuss any aspect of the racketeering case with reporters. "I have no comment," said one of the attorneys, Martin Pollner.

Prosecutors describe Seagal — known for his martial-arts moves in films like "Under Siege" and "Exit Wounds" — as a victim of the Gambino's bid to infiltrate the film industry for profit.

Seagal's troubles began when he had a falling-out with his former producer and business partner, Julius Nasso. Authorities allege Nasso was a Gambino associate who turned to the crime family to help him settle the score — charges Nasso has denied.

During visits to Seagal's homes in Toronto and California, wiseguys warned the actor he "would be hurt or killed" if he didn't pay millions of dollars Nasso believed he was owed, Whelan said.

"Despite his martial arts training, Seagal, like anyone in his position ... became concerned what was going to happen to him," Whelan said. "He became very concerned."

Wiretaps caught a Gambino captain instructing Nasso to demand the actor give the family a $150,000 cut for each film he made, prosecutors said. In a bugged VIP room in a Brooklyn restaurant in 2001, the mob suspects could be overheard chuckling over how "petrified" Seagal looked at a meeting.

"I wish we had gun with us," one gangster said. "That would have been funny."

Said another: "It was like out of the movies."

The defense denies any threats, saying Nasso was always business-like in seeking to get Seagal to repay $500,000 he loaned the actor for taxes. The lawyers claim the actor ran to federal authorities with false accusations to keep Nasso from collecting.

Authorities say Seagal actually didn't trust the feds to help him. He instead visited an unnamed inmate in state prison in New Jersey, thinking the inmate could use his mob connections to get his tormenters off his back, Whelan said.

Seagal "initially refused to testify (or) even meet with the government," the prosecutor said.

I know alot of the members don't want to read bad news on Steven, so if you do not want the updates on the trial just say so and I won't put anymore on here..They want him to look bad so there will be a lot a bad news on him like this one..

I'm back

hello everyone. You may not know me, but I used to post at the stevenseagal.com board under this same name, UrbanChampion. I was searching through the boards for interesting posts from the past. I was going to say something regarding the subjects here anyway, so I might as well make a response to this thread.

First of all, as far as the mafia incident is concerned, Nasso's pleading innocent when he knows good and well that he tried to get money from Seagal by illegal means and with people with a very bad reputation. Seagal said he couldn't make any more movies due to his religious purposes. But, some months after saying that, he was making a movie. This either means that he rejected what his advisor said and understood that his family and his career meant more than what an "advisor" advised, or he just didn't want to work with Nasso anymore. After all, Steven did say that Nasso was acting strangely ever since he broke up with his wife. Seagal probably saw trouble brewing for his partnership with Nasso, so he just got out of it as fast as possible by any means necessary. Either way, the one who messed up big time was Nasso. There is PROOF that he talked to the mafia! The man should be in jail with the Gambino family. But, with expert and famous lawyers on his side they can stretch the case out and make it last a long time and save Nasso's hide. Seagal doesn't have anything to worry about. He didn't break the law. Nasso did, and Nasso will pay for it, even if he doesn't pay for it in court. God takes away our blessings and our fortune when we do sinful things like Nasso and the mafia people. They don't deserve the blessings while the innocent people like Seagal suffer and struggle to hold their lives and their families together because they want to make things hard for them out of greed and malice. So even if the case just falls apart because it's gone on for so long and it's inconclusive, the mafia and Nasso will still pay for their sins. They might have a lot of power and a lot of money, but their souls are empty and they are very frustrated and unhappy people, no matter what they may tell you. Money and power can't buy true and complete happiness. They operate on hate and greed. They have things that make them happy in the form of material objects. They kill and lie and rob others of what they have. That's their unhappiness coming out to the surface. Within the Gambino family I am sure they love one another, because they are family, but they live in constant fear and constant pressure. "I have to watch out or we could get killed!", "I need to get this money, I need more power!". It's all a repeated cycle of NOTHINGNESS that goes nowhere. And their souls are suffering for it, and they will see how bad they are when they leave this physical world and are finally in that certain place that accepts the darkness their soul projects. And you know what place I'm talking about. Darkness cannot exist in the light.

As far as DMX is concerned, he's a showoff, a loudmouth, and a fake. The lyrics in his songs are very hardcore, his attitude in public is very macho, and he talks a lot...but he's nothing. And this guy says he wants to be a reverend when he stops making hip-hop? he'd be the kind of fake and twisted Christian reverend that would just steal people's money and put it in his bank account. The man REALLY needs to stop trying so damn hard to be something he's not. You can ask any fan of hip-hop, and they will tell you that DMX is not the kind of rapper that will back up his talk with actions. He talks about everyone, but he doesn't want to do anything about it. There are a lot of gangsters in the hip-hop industry, and I know you have heard of the stories behind them. DMX is never mentioned as one of those rappers. He puts on a front. I even read where he talked about the fight scene he had in Exit Wounds with Seagal. He said he "wasn't going down like a punk". It's a movie, X!!!!! It's not REAL! Get back to reality and shut your mouth. And do you really think we believe you'd be able to make Seagal's breathing pattern change from normal in a fight to the knockout? Give me a break. Seagal even said it was difficult working with DMX in the fight scene because he doesn't have any knowledge of martial arts and how to move the right way. He even accidently hurt his shoulder when he flipped him over his head because he didn't fall the way he was told to fall. yeah...good job DMX...good job. DMX is judgemental and sensitive...like a little boy throwing a little tantrum because something didn't go the way he wanted. The reason I know he's judgemental and sensitive is because he had a lot of bad things to say about Seagal because he was just trying to be friendly to the man...

"DMX Rips 'Old Slave Master' Steven Seagal
Monday, October 07 @ 00:24:47 EDT

DMX, who co-starred with Steven Seagal in 'Exit Wounds,' snarls to Stuff magazine: "Steven Seagal is a fu**. He's a fu**ing sh**head. With spray-on hair. He talked like he was an old slave master. ‘Hey, wassup? We's gonna have us a barbecue.' I was just like, ‘Man, who the fu** do you think you're talking to? My name ain't Sambo, nigga. Get the fu** out of here with that bullsh**.' Or he'd pull some fake attempting to be friendly fu**. He'd see my wife and be like, ‘Hey, little mama.' We laughed about it. Just like, ‘This guy's a fu**er.' He's a asshole."

Let's see, his inability to even speak the english language without profanity every 3 words is just a dead giveaway as to how intelligent he is. Spray on hair? Maybe to cover thinning hair at the front of his hairline. But he's able to grow a full head of hair and a ponytail if he wanted to! How many other 50+ year old actors can do that? Bruce Willis isn't even 50 yet, at least I dont think so...and he's about to lose every hair in his head! Bruce still rocks though. But, hey, at least he HAS hair. Can't say the same about DMX's chrome dome. And just because Seagal says "wussap", is not being racist or "trying to be black". Seagal gets along with all kinds of people. Asian, blacks, whites, everyone. On the interview on his motion picture music CD it says he didn't find out he was white until he was about 12 years old. He grew up around blacks and people of ethnic groups other than white people. That's why he's able to be good friends with Wyclef Jean, who is one of his BEST FRIENDS! If he was a racist, why would he want to be in a movie with DMX, Ja Rule, Damon Wayans, be best friends with Wyclef, appear at the Soul Train Music Awards WITH Wayans and Wyclef, or say what he said in his interview? DMX has a problem with getting along with other people, and he obviously holds racist tendencies, or he wouldn't have gotten so angry and easily took offense to what Seagal said to him! Personally, I am african-american, and unfortunatly I see people like DMX almost everyday. They just try to cover up their true feelings, but it comes out into the open when they feel offended the least little bit. And when Seagal tries to respect DMX even more and try to be really nice to him AND his wife, he just blows it off as being FAKE. I have the Half Past Dead press kit. I will tell you what Ja Rule has to say about Seagal...

"yeah, steven's a cool dude. I like Steven. He's nothing like I expected. He's down to Earth. You'd think that Steven is that guy you see in the movies. But he's very 'ethnically' trained", chuckled Ja Rule

Steven likes to have fun just like anyone else. and everyone on the set of Half Past Dead said that they had fun working with each other! That tells you something about DMX's attitude towards others. Even DMX and Ja Rule have disagreements. One of them is because Ja released an album on the day before DMX released his. X got angry as if Ja was trying to make his album decline in sales. Hey, get over it, that's business. That's competetion. No crybabies allowed...

Well...that was some introduction (re-introduction to those that remember me). It's good to be here!!! I'll be waiting for April 10th too! Big Steve's B-Day! I turn 23 on april 20th. It feels good to have a birthday in the same month as Take Sensei. :)

Welcome back Urban Champion;
I dont think that many serious thinking people take what DMX says seriously-He's an a s s h o l e who pretends to be an a s s h o l e in real life. Can you imagine him as a reverend. I can imagine Saddam as the pope more..
