"....
Why do we get upset about movies?
Steven Seagal is in a lousy movie called "Out of Reach."

In Poland, an organization led by Turks kidnap 16-year-old girls from dormitories and sell them at auction. Seagal is the hero who fights against this group.

Our media is up in arms because of the movie.

We are close to blaming the Foreign Ministry for allowing it to happen. We may call for a boycott of the movie.

I don't understand why we get so angry about such movies. He found a lousy subject and filmed a lousy movie. What should we do -- issue diplomatic protests?

We should instead support movies that favor Turks and Turkey.

If protesting against such movies had produced something tangible, Germans would be in the streets every other day. There is no need to get upset or angry about such movies."

---------------------------

This doesn't sound so very bad. Mehmet Ali Birand just hates Stevens new movie and as a matter of fact is making a personal attack and refeering to the big guy as lousy a couple of times.

Maybe Steven now can sue Birands sorry ass... :p

It's very delicate, to portray the bad guys in a movie, especially if you wanna portray people from other countries... it's always source for debates... which country to portray ??? it's gotta be someone....

As a Turkey's lover and admirer, I think they got the wrong choice...but maybe it would be unfair to choose some other country... it's a delicate issue...

Maybe they should put a group of people from different countries ??

There will always be debates...

Have you ever gone to Istanbul ? No ? You would be amazed with the people, places, history... everybody should go there at least once in your life...it's worth it.

Why is this such a controversy??????

I guess I am confused, because a country is named for the "bad guys". It is a movie made for entertainment. I would understand if there was some racism in the movie, however I don't recall any. It is no different than movies being made taht have a white american as the head of some criminal scheme. So should I be offened?? No, that would be silly.

Do I think Seagal set out to degrade the Turkish nation...no. I guess what I am trying to get across is that it is a movie made up for the purpose of entertainment, doesn't mean it is real or that it is the view of the person(s). It is a story that some may like and others may not. I think way too much is being read into the Turkish as bad guys theme. It could have been any other country and would there be an uproar?? Probably not. Did the Russians get mad when Glimmer Man came out....not that I recall. Or what about the Itallians when Out For Justice Came out?? Or Jamaicans when Marked For Death Came Out, or even the U.S. Senators when Senator Caldwell was killed in a plane crash in Hard To Kill.

Maybe we should cut Seagal Shihan a little slack, I know he is not racist and that he loves ALL human beings regardless of where they live or what country they are in.

Suzi, I truly hope you do not fault him for anything that was done in the movie...it is a piece of entertainment, hopefully you can see that and not read into the it.

Maybe I am missing something though, but it seems to me that this was blown way out of proportion and should not have even crossed anyone's mind!!!!!! Anyway, love ya all!!!

Written press called "Kelebek" which is sold together with the most read daily newspaper "Hurriyet", has written that Steven Seagal is against Turkey and Turkish people. Also TV stations have put scenes from the film and indicated that Steven Seagal is acting like an enemy of Turkey.

I am very sorry.

If that is being said in a "newspaper" then I must say that it sounds more like propoganda to me and not fact, but that is my opinion! What would be the logic in that theory. That is like me saying I should hate Japan because they bombed Pearl Harbor....I think that is ridiculous!!!!!
