I have been in contact with one of the actors. He couldn't tell me anything (due to contract obligations), but he told me that the production company will make an announcement soon regarding General Commander.

Personally I wouldn't mind it if they make 1 movie out of the 1st 2 epsiodes. I'd rather see Seagal doing a new movie then a TV series. Look at what happened with True Justice. It wasn't that good. He needs to stick to projects he really enjoyes doing, like Attrition for example. It also fits his age and interest.
Wasn't the production company supposed to make an announcement last month? Or was that about the other series ROMAN 9? I agree with you about the movie vs the TV series. Although I did enjoy the TRUE JUSTICE series, release on DVD for a syndicated series, especially an international series, can be spotty. I was lucky TJ was released in Canada (NTSC). I would have preferred the actual series instead of the 90 minute movie compilations, though.

They will announce the cast for Roman 9 in Cannes. So I think they will also come with an announcement for General Commander in Cannes.

BIG UPDATE regarding General Commander!

I have just been in contact with director and producer Phillippe Martinez.

They decided to turn General Commander into a film!

They will be releasing both Attrition and General Commander on a new platform that they are launching to release with these two Seagal films mid July .

I asked what that 'platform' exactly means.

Martinez:
We have decided to bring the films to the fans directly first .
We will give you more details soon.

I have no idea what this exactly means.....maybe someone else here has an idea?

I think it means Lionsgate dropped the film and nobody else wants it after recent allegations so they will show it online

well thats what i think anyway which is a shame

So there will never be a dvd or bluray? Or is this just for the US release?

I guess we'll have to wait for more details. But I suspect someone will release ATTRITION and GENERAL COMMANDER on the various platforms (VOD, streaming, TV, DVD, etc). It may be someone other than Lionsgate, or if may be another company, depending on territory rights.

I think what they are saying is that the show(Commander General) is so bad that no TV station will pick it up...
so they are looking for alternative ways to recoup their loss.
You would think that after the failure of True Justice not being good enough for TV that Seagal would learn.
Commander General is /was just True Justice season 3....with the team now over seas.
Heck they didn't even finish True Justice...left everybody hanging at the end after 2 seasons.

I also chatted with Matthieu Weschler this week and he told me it's going to be Lionsgate who will release the movie. Unless something has changed between the chat I had with Weschler and Martinez.

I think they are not saying it is bad. And I think no director / producer will say his product is bad. I think it's just a matter of production costs. Or they think they can sell it better as a movie. There could be a lot of things. No potential buyer has seen the series yet. They just finished the trailer.
I think Saradan can make more money with turning it into a movie.

Methinks (QUOTE) "We have decided to bring the films to the fans directly first" implies that they'll both be going straight-to-DVD (as opposed to some of the limited theatre-runs that some of Seagal's recent movies have been given?)

Unless they plan on knocking door-to-door giving Seagal fans free DVD's (or that 'Seagal' and Co. will be performing live-plays of such movies in local town centres, parks, etc) :D

I guess you are right. Weschler told me Lionsgate decided not to do a Limited Theatrical run.

Damn someone was at my door earlier. :( :D

Maybe the plan to release on the likes of iTunes, Netflix, etc first.. Sad that they have cancelled the rest of the series as would have been good to see different locations, but as above guess the first couple of episodes didn't inspire many people to back it for the long haul.

Hope when released it makes sense too and comes to a decent resolution.

Will try and move the General Commander resource to the movies section. Wonder if they will keep the name..

I think they will release it as a direct digital download/stream, like Vimeo on Demand or something like that.

Fans can buy it digitally, and they get more of the money straight away without a traditional distributor in the middle.

I only question how many fans are going to pay, and what kind of a "movie" are they putting out?

Nothing I have seen or heard so far from this production instills confidence.

I fear it's going to be another True Justice type situation, but with more exotic locations and possibly lower production values.

Everything about it down to the title is awfully generic and boring, just like True Justice.

So Lionsgate will still release the two projects, just not theatrical?

I guess we have to wait and see.

I'm really looking forward to "Attrition", not so much to "General Commander", I guess it could be weird to watch it especially in this film form.

I hope Seagal continues to make movies now. Would be great to see more films from Asia. They have some great action directors there.

It is True Justice 3....read the description:..background plot...looking for the 'killer'....in the meantime the team goes after crimals....same exact plot line as True Justice...
it wasn't even made for US TV in the first place.
--
It would be/is the same as True Justice...with Seagal either sitting behind a desk or sitting in his SUV for %99 of his scenes..
the whole series only cost $12 million.....so extracting Seagal's fee....there's nothing left to make the series.

Did he mean both ATTRITION and GENERAL COMMANDER were to be handled by Lionsgate? I hope so...I'd like to see the "pilot" film for CG, even if it leaves strings undone that would have been addressed during the series.

Sorry, there has been a misunderstanding. Lionsgate is out of the picture...

Yes, you are right. I think about it the same way. I am looking forward to Attrition.
