STEVEN SEAGAL GATHERS REMAINING BLUES PIONEERS TOGETHER TO RECORD ALL-STAR ALBUM

STEVEN SEAGAL (star of action films including Under Siege and
Nico) has assembled some of the most vital remaining architects of blues music to record an all-star album in Memphis. As the blues community mourns the recent loss of R.L. Burnside, Little Milton and Gatemouth Brown - who was scheduled to participate - this gathering will preserve the legacy of significant artists and their musical heritage.

In addition to producing the project, the actor and life-long musician will sing and play guitar with such blues pioneers as Bo Diddley, Iverson "Louisiana Red" Minter, Ruth Brown, Bo Diddley, James Cotton, Willie "Pine Top" Perkins, Willie Smith, Calvin Jones, Bob Margolin, Hubert Sumlin, Koko Taylor, Tom Brill, "Big"
George Brock, David "Honeyboy Edwards," Robert Lockwood, Jr., "Homesick James" William Henderson, Henry Townsend.

Alternating recording sessions between Memphis' House of Blues and Sounds Unreel studios, the blues assembly will perform a number of standards plus a few of SEAGAL's originals. Details re the album's 2006 release are forthcoming.

This is excellent news, Suzi! Steven has long been associated with some of the great names in music, but that has not always received much publicity. Even many of his fans aren't aware of some of the people he's played and performed with, and the credit they've always given him for his talent. This is a great opportunity to establish himself even more in the music industry and let the rest of the world in on his musical talent.

Thanks, Suzi! :) Well done, as usual!

Seagal Chasing The Blues In Memphis
Billboard.com
October 13, 2005
By Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.

Steven Seagal has become a household name as the star of dozens of action films, but he's hoping to become just as well-known for his musical endeavors. Seagal is in Memphis recording an album tentatively titled "Mojo Priest," which finds him working in the company of such blues legends as Bo Diddley, Muddy Waters Band members Bob Margolin and Hubert Sumlin, Koko Taylor, James Cotton, Robert Lockwood Jr. and 90-year-old guitarist David "Honeyboy" Edwards.

"Blues is my real passion, and I've always wanted to do a blues record," Seagal tells Billboard.com. "I've had very close relationships with a lot of the great legends, many of whom I got to play with."

A mix of Seagal originals and what he describes as "blues classics," the album's final track list will be chosen from a pool of about 18 tunes. Among the cuts recorded so far are "Dust My Broom" with guitarist Louisiana Red, "Wang Dang Doodle" with Taylor and "Slow Boat to China" with Ruth Brown. "It has been an emotional, powerful experience," Seagal enthuses. "Yesterday and today, we had folks that were there, in my opinion, at the real beginning of the blues."

Seagal has also been filming the sessions for a potential DVD release, "because God knows, these folks won't be around forever," he says. "Little Milton, Gatemouth Brown and R.L. Burnside were friends of mine and they were all scheduled to play on this record, but they all suddenly [passed away]. We lost three within a month."

Seagal is hoping to finish the album before the end of the year and then begin fielding offers for its release. "I decided to fund the record myself, which is always much better, then shop it and see who wants to jump in," he says. "This will cost me at least $300,000 to do it right. But I want to do it right, because I'm a perfectionist."

A North American tour is in the works next year in support of the album. But beforehand, Seagal will spend time abroad promoting a second, non-blues CD, "Songs From the Crystal Cave," which is available internationally and should see North American release in early 2006. He will also perform with his blues band on New Year's Eve at actor Morgan Freeman's Ground Zero club in Clarksdale, Miss.

"I've always loved the blues since I was a child," Seagal says. "Music is what I did first, and it's my first love and my main love."

Excellent find Suzi (as always)!!!!!!!!

He's coming to Europe to promote Songs From The Crystal Cave? Fantastic, which countries will he visit?

And a North American tour and a possible new album and dvd. He's on a role.

Daring of Seagal to finance it himself, but if succesfull (looking at the stars performing it should be) it will gross a lot more then the cost.

Peace

From Live Daily-October 14, 2005 03:11 PM

Action star Steven Seagal (music) plans to record a blues album with the help of an all-star roster of artists from the genre, to include Iverson "Louisiana Red" Minter, Ruth Brown, Bo Diddley, James Cotton, Willie "Pine Top" Perkins, Willie Smith, Calvin Jones, Bob Margolin, Hubert Sumlin, Koko Taylor, Tom Brill, "Big" George Brock, David "Honeyboy Edwards," Robert Lockwood, Jr., "Homesick James" William Henderson and Henry Townsend.

"As a devoted musician and student of the blues, I wanted to document the important contribution each of these amazing artists has made to our musical heritage," Seagal, who is producing the project, said in a statement. "I regret that many of the great blues icons are no longer with us, but have no doubt that their spirit will continue to inspire all of us for generations to come."

Seagal will record the as-yet-untitled album in Memphis, and it is expected to hit stores during the first half of 2006, according to a press release. "Songs from the Crystal Cave," Seagal's musical debut--already released in France, where it topped the charts--will surface in the U.S. during the latter half of 2006.

Update !!

From MTV.Com

Taking time out from his busy schedule of breaking bad guys' arms and practicing hard-core Buddhism, Steven Seagal is making his way down to Memphis to record an all-star blues album. He's gathered the "last of the living blues legends" (according to a hyperbolic press release) to record an LP full of blues standards and Seagal's own tunes, taken from his album Songs From the Crystal Cave ("a #1 seller in France!"). Artists scheduled to appear on the album include Bo Diddley, Willie "Pinetop" Perkins, Ruth Brown and Jamaican gangster/Seagal nemesis in "Marked for Death" Screwface (not really). The still-untitled album is due in 2006. ... No Doubt's Tony Kanal and Rancid's Tim Armstrong are playing together in tribute to Sublime, who will be honored October 24 at a benefit concert for the MusiCares MAP fund and hurricane relief at Los Angeles' Henry Fonda Theater. Joining Kanal and Armstrong will be Fishbone's Angelo Moore, and together they'll play a Sublime tune "plus more," according to event organizers. Also on the bill are Unwritten Law, Ozomatli, Blackalicious and more. ...

Steven Seagal Sings The Blues
Martial artist/actor unveils his musical side with new album.
by IGN Music

November 1, 2005 - Martial artist and Hollywood action star Steven Seagal is gravitating toward the Blues, gathering together an all star cas of living legends to record an album in Memphis.

The album, which was produced by Seagal, will mark the actor's U.S. debut as a musical artist, and is scheduled to be released in January 2006.

Seagal, who counts himself as a student of the Delta Blues, will sing and play guitar alongside a who's who list of the genres pioneers including Iverson "Louisiana Red" Minter, Ruth Brown, Bo Diddley, James Cotton, Willie "Pine Top" Perkins, Willie Smith, Calvin Jones, Bob Margolin, Hubert Sumlin, Koko Taylor, Tom Brill, "Big" George Brock, David "Honeyboy Edwards," Robert Lockwood, Jr., "Homesick James" William Henderson and Henry Townsend.

"As a devoted musician and student of the blues, I wanted to document the important contribution each of these amazing artists has made to our musical heritage," says SEAGAL. "I regret that many of the great blues icons are no longer with us, but have no doubt that their spirit will continue to inspire all of us for generations to come."

Seagal is no stranger to the recorded world, however. His debut album Songs From The Crystal Cave was released in France earlier this year and is awaiting release in Asia, as well. It is scheduled to receive its U.S. release later in 2006.
