What is the peace of God?

It has been said that there is a kind of peace that is not of this world. How is it recognized? How is it found? And being found, how can it be retained? Let us consider each of these questions separately, for each reflects a different step along the way.

First, how can the peace of God be recognized? God's peace is recognized at first by just one thing; in every way it is totally unlike all previous experiences. It calls to mind nothing that went before. It brings with it no past associations. It is a new thing entirely. There is a contrast, yes, between this thing and all the past. But strangely, it is not a contrast of true differences. The past just slips away, and in its place is everlasting quiet. Only that. The contrast first perceived has merely gone. Quiet has reached to cover everything.

How is this quiet found? No one can fail to find it who but seeks out its conditions. God's peace can never come where anger is, for anger must deny that peace exists. Who sees anger as justified in any way or any circumstance proclaims that peace is meaningless, and must believe that it cannot exist. In this condition, peace cannot be found. Therefore, forgiveness is the necessary condition for finding the peace of God. More than this, given forgiveness there <must> be peace. For what except attack will lead to war? And what but peace is opposite to war? Here the initial contrast stands out clear and apparent. Yet when peace is found, the war is meaningless. And it is conflict now that is perceived as nonexistent and unreal.

How is the peace of God retained, once it is found? Returning anger, in whatever form, will drop the heavy curtain once again, and the belief that peace cannot exist will certainly return. War is again accepted as the one reality. Now must you once again lay down your sword, although you do not recognize that you have picked it up again. But you will learn, as you remember even faintly now what happiness was yours without it, that you must have taken it again as your defense. Stop for a moment now and think of this: Is conflict what you want, or is God's peace the better choice? Which gives you more? A tranquil mind is not a little gift. Would you not rather live than choose to die?

Living is joy, but death can only weep. You see in death escape from what you made. But this you do not see; that you made death, and it is but illusion of an end. Death cannot be escape, because it is not life in which the problem lies. Life has no opposite, for it is God. Life and death seem to be opposites because you have decided death ends life. Forgive the world, and you will understand that everything that God created cannot have an end, and nothing He did not create is real. In this one sentence is our course explained. In this one sentence is our practicing given its one direction. And in this one sentence is the Holy Spirit's whole curriculum specified exactly as it is.

What is the peace of God? No more than this; the simple understanding that His Will is wholly without opposite. There is no thought that contradicts His Will, yet can be true. The contrast between His Will and yours but seemed to be reality. In truth there was no conflict, for His Will is yours. Now is the mighty Will of God Himself His gift to you. He does not seek to keep it for Himself. Why would you seek to keep your tiny frail imaginings apart from Him? The Will of God is One and all there is. This is your heritage. The universe beyond the sun and stars, and all the thoughts of which you can conceive, belong to you. God's peace is the condition for His Will. Attain His peace, and you remember Him.

My thoughts and experiences

That is a good question. I think it is what every human being seeks in their search for the truth. I have always been taught and read in the bible and from my own personal experience the "Peace of God" is the peace when you find God. (God is not lost.) Mankind is always in search of God. I believe that is why there are so many religions.

When I asked Jesus Christ to come into my heart and life and to have his will with my life is when I found peace in my life. To know I am never alone. God is with me through every trial, joys, and every single aspect of my life. To know He answers my prayers. "Then shalt thou call, and the Lord shall answer; thou shalt cry, and He shall say, here I am."~Isaiah 58:9

That is when I found the "peace of God". :)

Purplelotus the peace of God passes human understanding, it is something deep in the reassess of our soul any experience is the by-product of that peace of God. We live in the age where words are limited to fully explain the peace of God that "I" and many speak about. It has to be experienced from within and also at the same time surrendering that experience back to the source.

True meaning of peace can comes from living in the moments in union with the creator, without any attachments to the experience inside. It is not difficult to have that peace 24/7 given the right technique or a "vehicle" to get "there". How?

The key is to be innocent, let ideas and thoughts of the observer and witnessing go so that you may experience even sublter and deeper level of these, and when you do, let that go as well. Be wary of the mind's trickiness in creating the ideal experience of what the "Peace of God" means. Accept the guidance from your heart, it holds no reasons.

We are spritual beings we are all part of the whole of Creation - need no names (except when we need to try to put understanding into an Earthly brain). A scholar could write, but then you are not getting the understanding of life without all material things. Many books have been written by clever people with knowledge of how to present, but the goodness is taken out of it. Writings are given by feelings and senses in a true spiritual way and cannot be read and remembered for future use.

The only way to understand is to open your heart in prayer and meditation. This will cost you nothing of material worth, only be sincere and give love unconditionally and try to live as an asset to this Earth. "He who walks with nature, walks with God"

When we come to Earth we come in many forms and speak in many tongues, but what we try to give to you, you will not find in any books, for we are the life force of all that is good and our message is the same through the ages. If you send out love it will be returned a thousand-fold, so love everybody and every aspect of nature. Let them feel the warmth of your love. This is the lesson that is repeated but not always listened to.

In the eyes of God we are all equal, but to listen and feel all the greatness of this creation, all your thoughts must be centred on sending loving thoughts to everyone. Only then will you find the inner peace that passes all understanding. "Love thy God with all thy heart, all thy mind and all thy soul"

Ok Wayne I would like for us to try this exercise one more time . Would you please tell me in YOUR OWN WORDS how you feel? I have that site in my favorites and can barely bring myself to read it there so I for sure am not going to read it here . So if you do not mind indulging me for a few simple minutes, I would be much obliged.

Look into the Mirror

Some of you may remember a film called Circle Of Iron. In the film, a seeker begins a journey in search of "The Book" of enlightenment, learning many things along the way. In the end, he finally receives "The Book" ... and when he opens it, it is a book of mirrors. The film was the dreamchild of Bruce Lee which he was not able to participate in because he took the journey. The film was also the favorite of a very wise and holy Sufi who very much liked the idea of the "book of mirrors".
To know God, know thyself.

This goes out to Jalu and Purple, Thank you for putting me in my place, after reading and contemplating about what you both were trying to say to me I understand now that I am not ready to share the truth in me and I was ignorant, I understand now what it is to write from the heart my teacher told me what I needed to hear that destroyed pride in me that I have had and the only person that I was battling was myself.

It was a blessing to have came to this forum and meet you both. Now its time for me to move on I came not to share but to learn. Everything happens for a reason and I have my teacher to Thank Mahadeva Ishaya who helped me see what I could not see.

Love you both always,

I came across a book today that made me think of this thread. When trying to find the "peace OF God," I think we also need to find the "peace WITH God."

The book is called: "PEACE with God"~ by Billy Graham
www.billygraham.org
1-877-247-2426

I plan on reading it.

With all the pain and suffering in the world, we have at one time or another asked "Why?"
Since the fall of Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden people have had to deal with the consequences of mankinds choices and the effects it has on others. I know that God gave us free will to choose to love Him or reject Him. I know that the "world events" are the result of mankinds choices. Knowing God is there for me through anything and all I have to do is pray. He always answers prayers. To know that the decision He makes is best for me. To know I am never alone. To me that is the finding "Peace WITH God." In my life I want people to see Him in my life. To help others, be a friend, to be what He wants me to be, with that I hope to make a positive contribution to society. With sin in the world there will always be strife. There will always be a place God can use me to help someone....encouraging words, roll up my sleeves and help, buy groceries, be there for someone, to even getting something off a high shelf for someone who can't reach it themselves, etc.
Asking Jesus Christ into my heart and life I found "Peace of God." He is by ever present friend, guide, helper...He shares in my joys, my tears, eases my fears, answers my prayers...I trust in Him.
Love,
Jules :)

"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."~Jeremiah 29:11

"Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ."~Romans 5:1

Jalu-
I'm not even sure if one can find the film Circle Of Iron anymore - it is old. One might be able to find it used thru Amazon or eBay. I always hoped it would be on DVD. It really is an exceptional film.
I've found true peace cannot be found by the mind. There is an open space, beyond the mind, beyond words, beyond anything the mind can imagine - I have experienced it only a few moments but those moments are an eternity. It is a space where there is no past, no future, no attachments to anyone or anything, where all of everything is completely surrendered to God, where "I" do not exist, where only God exists, where only His Beautiful Qualities of Love, Compassion, Tolerance, Surrender, and Praise exist. There is a Point where "I" disappear within the affirmation "Nothing Exists But God; You Are God". True peace can be found within that one Point. There is no way to describe it completely - just as Wisdom cannot be gotten. One can "convey" an experience, one can "convey" Wisdom - yet until you have the experience you won't truly understand. That moment has no time nor space. If I hand you a beautiful rose and tell you to smell it's fragrance, you, yourself, must learn to identify that fragrance from the stence of the world. Many of us are trying to learn Wisdom, and to share our experiences. We can only do the best we can - and remember that there is only One Judge. If Wisdom is like a pond, then all sorts of people might come to drink of it - as well as all manner of critters. We can focus on the water [Wisdom] in the pond, and drink our fill, or we can focus on all the beings who come to drink. The choice is ours.
Peace
