Heather, you take care now, cause you are my bud...I love dogs and cats, but I really like them all...I have never had a horse...Dogs are very loving...And aren't pandas so cute? And those potbelly pigs are cute...All baby animals are soooo cute too...But I really get creeped out by snakes, spiders, and rats I am afraid...Oh, and I am a little scared of monkeys too, because I had one pull my hair once...

So thats what it was, Heather, you were kicked in the head by a horse not a roo? lol jk

I seem to have three animal families that are my fav:
K9
Feline
Equine.
But I do like most animals anyways.

I'm a "dog" person. I like dogs; and dogs like me. I've had people with shy or nervous dogs exclaim in amazement as their dogs, which usually don't let strangers come anywhere near them, let me pet them. Cats go crazy over me as well. Once, while visiting the vet's with my dog, I had a baby cougar use my thumb as a teething toy... ow.

However, there are two breeds of dog I wouldn't go near with a bargepole - rottweilers and pit bulls. Alas, in my neighbourhood, the young bloods like to prove they've got real high testosterone, and the only dogs these tough guys on my block own are pit bulls and rottweilers. I was confronted by a rottweiler once (it never got to the point of attack because I knew enough dog psychology to avoid being a threat), hence my distaste for the ugly beasts. Pit bulls I abhor on principle. For more genteel dogs, I have to go all the way to the pretentious condominiums down by Humber Loop, about 30 minutes' walk away.

I miss having a dog. Not allowed to have one in this apartment, although cats are allowed.

TD,

With Rottweilers, it is just how they are raised. I have had two of them, each over a hundred pounds and they were the biggest lap dogs you have ever seen. One of them was afraid of my sister's cat. My nieces and nephews would lay on top on them, ride them and pull them by their collars and the dogs didn't care. The only time either dog would bare his teeth is if a stranger got anywhere near my mom. Then they became very protective. The first one would always just move to the other side of my mom and the kids and put herself between them and strangers.

Hey, BB Lady, good to see you back!

I've never had anything but bad encounters with Rottweilers. They are, as you say, very protective of their charges; but they are also far too heavy and strong to be controlled if they decided to charge. The owner of the dog that was on the point of attacking me could just barely restrain the dog. It was all I could do to fight my instinct to run, because I knew if I did, well, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

I know a few people who say Rottweilers are just big lap dogs, and that it's all in how the dogs are trained; but the Rottweiler has a lot of instinct in it that training just barely overcomes and around here, no one bothers to train them at all. For my peace of mind, they are too uncertain in temper for me to be comfortable around. With Rottweilers, you see, I know I'm prey....

-TD, delectable morsel

They Think the Beast of Gevaudan was part Rottweiler the other half was probably of wild wolf, I trust them as far as I can throw a pittbull.
