That Is Not Correct!

Pardon me Littledragon, but you've probably never seen a proper Wu-Shu competition. I have and it's about as "full" as full-contact can get and it can lead to some pretty nasty injuries! But I'm just talking from what I saw, I've neither practiced nor read anything in-depth about this style, but I've been told it resembles hapkido, which is right in my alley.

LOL you are wrong. There is no sparring in Wu-Shu!

Maybe not where you live. Out here, these guys are considered the best and they've won a ton of international competitions as well, including against the Chineese so LOL away all you want, doesn't make any difference :D

Is that a joke or not I can't tell? :D

Yup as far as a Martial Artist and how to fully see if your style works in a fight, Vale Tudo is the best test.

LOL you know what they say about Van Damme. :D Did you hear about the bouncer incident in New York, how the bouncers literally dragged him outside and threw him out LOL.

No problem Jace, you seem to know your Martial Arts well. What do you think bout Vale Tudo and Grappling? - Do you think in order to be sucesfull in a fight or street situation you need to learn some kind of grappling?

no didnt hear about it
he was probably on his 5th line though
Definitely you need to be able to grapple mix it up etc
imagine this
Steven Seagal replaces Neo in the 15min burley brawl scene.he could do it(except fly away)one essence of aikido is not to defeat one opponent but to stand in the middle and defeat an army...I was told.

Someone who is sure to be the strongest man in the world is to proud of himself or stupid!

Why is that your goal? After that person, there will be another :(

You missed the point Amos, the point is if you train hard enough one day you will meet the person who is better than you.

It is called determination.

Combat Hapkido

Hi Pantera,

The reason I chose this "sport" is because I am in post mid-life crisis. In fact, I'm so "over the hill" that they decided not to post my picture!

Combat Hapkido is not a sport. It is the science of self-defense. It is a more modern ecclectic art with Hapkido as the foundation. We use a whole array of kicks, strikes, joint locks, etc. We also practice knife and gun disarming.

I enjoy Combat Hapkido like my other interests which include music, combat pistol shooting, hiking, boating, etc. I do it for enjoyment; however, it is a fantastic form of self-defense.

Hope this helps! ;)

well i just wanted to know you a little bit more. the reason why you've chosen hapkido is a way to do it. All of us who practice a martial art has surely tought a lot about which one is gonna choose before starting. The explanations of the choice give you an idea of a martial art you don't know. In my case, i didn't know about hapkido. In answering my question, you give me an idea of what hapkido is. So thanx Last of the breed.

Hi guys!

I have been practicing chinese kung-fu: Wing-Chun for more than two and a half year now. And it is an extremely effective martial arts to use in street fights. Basically, in this kung fu system, anything goes. Ranges from the kick in the groin to throat strikes, eye gouging. You name it.

We generate power from our stance and utilise our body weight into every attack and defence we do.

Bruce Lee first started Wing-Chun before he went on and invent Jee-Kun-Do. Lots of movements in his Jee-kun-do are from wing-chun. So if you watch his movie, you would have some rough idea of wing-chun.

Check out my school's website if you would like to know more about the martial arts I do.

www.wing-chun.com.au

There's also a forum as well!!!!! Where you can ask questions or look through the threads to know more about this martial art.

Hello Pantera,

There is a martial art that is right for each individual. Over the years I have studied Aikido, Tukong Moosul, western boxing and Hapkido. The reason I decided to stay with Hapkido is because it is strictly self-defense. It is also a beautiful art when properly executed. When our special forces were in Viet Nam (ie. Green Berets), Hapkido was our style of choice. It is effective. The founders of Aikido and Hapkido studied under the same Master. Good luck! :)
