Where Does Steven Seagal Stand Now?

After 15 yrears of watching Seagal you kinda get a feeling as to where he might
stand in world of movies. Martial Arts has taking Hoolywood by storm and in every action movie or or most of them some type of martial atrs is used. But
this is what distincts Seagal from the rest of the pack. Most action movie that
use martial arts use Tae-Kwon-Do and they stick the basics. Seagal on the
other hand has a completely different type of martial arts that directors will
not use because of the way it works. Seagals style if ever has not been used
because you have to be able to use the force of your opponant against them
and that is hard to do. The most recent movies Segal has done have been done
in Thailand, for 2 reasons, 1. He Loves Thailand and the religion he knows he a Thailand based religion 2. The settings are great to do the type of movies that Seagal likes to do, plus the fact thats where he learned his martial arts. After all
is said, where in Holllywood does Seagal stand now?

In the action world Seagal is a legend, I do not think he is regarded that highly as an actor in Hollywood but is certainley a highly regarded action star. During the Under Siege time SEAGAL was an A LIST movie star for his action, since then I believe his status has slipped down a little due to his DTV movies, but he is still regarded as one of the greatest action stars of all time. He is still pretty high up there in the action world but interms of Hollywood he has slipped down a little because of his DTV releases and his absence on the silver screen.

Seagal did not learn his martial arts in Thailand!!! He first started in the USA and then moved to Japan where he eventually opened a dojo (the first american to do so).

As terrific a martial arts star as he is, I think his popularity has as much to do with his commanding on-screen presence as it does his martial arts skills.

Look at Under Siege, it was his most successful film by far and has hardly any of his Aikido in it.

Aikido also isn't the only standard he has a black belt in.

I like Under Siege 2: Dark Territory not as much as the first but when he said near the and when he fought that guy in the kitchen and killed him. The line just cracked me up.

Actually thought he did learn hs martial arts in thailand. He speaks several different languages. But I'm new so maybe I got the facts wrong. You were right
about being the first westernerto bring martial arts to Japan. I'm going to
do some digging and find out where he did start at first beside the U.S.

No, sorry seagalstheman, he did not train in Thailand. And I do know of his background in the arts. But keep digging, he is an interesting person.
