Hey TD...my Aunt was taking Lipitor but she as well got tired of the expense & concern about the meds,so she's now taking:Mevacor

I don't want to take any drugs at all.

Right now I'm trying to get my numbers from my doctor and she's being difficult about it. I'm looking for a more natural alternative, and searching the internet has so far proved unhelpful. I'll have to scope out the bookstores and see if they have any cholesterol-management diet books out there. I know it can be reduced by diet alone, but it takes time.

Smile dammit!
That colour is,er,interesting..
I can see you have much unpacking to do yet.
At the risk of injury, check this out..

Settling in, he sez. Take a peek at the piccie below. That's pretty much how my place still is, 3 months after moving in. And in case you're wondering, yes, those walls are pink. They started off that horrible dark dusty rose pink; then the person who moved out slapped on one coat of primer, which resulted in the walls being somewhat less pink, but gives the effect of spilt milk.

I've put on two more coats of primer and that hideous pink is STILL visible, except in those places where I used a brush instead of roller.

I bought the Enterprise bridge model (reissue, not the original) but I haven't had the heart to open the box and start working on it, mostly because my friend who helped me with the original model hasn't ceased rubbing it in about the accidental disposal.

I have nice friends (not).

I am so bummed out about everything I am fleeing the city tomorrow and going up to the cottage for the weekend. I have just enough in the bank to cover the trip. A weekend isn't long enough, but it'll have to do. Besides, it'll give me a chance to go to the cemetery, where my mother is buried, which is mainly why I go. Driving up in traffic, though... I can feel my nerves starting to jangle even now! (I like driving. I don't like traffic. Only open roads, for me!)

Looks like you got some work to do buddy. ;)

Well, I'm ba-a-a-a-ck.

Weatherwise, the weekend was wonderful. Mostly sunny skies, a bit of wind overnight on Friday which brought in the cold water from mid-lake, which meant I missed my one chance to go for a swim (Friday, the water was soupy-warm). I had some serious snooze time, which I desperately needed after all the work in recent weeks and getting the news about my continuing-to-go-downhill health (I'm still annoyed my doctor is refusing to give me my test results).

I stopped in at the cemetery, this time with a big pot of mums (I usually get a dozen carnations and one red rose) since the florist's was closed but the garden centre was open. At least it was something; I don't like going empty-handed to the cemetery.

Didn't get my short fiction reviews written. I'll do that later this week.

Unfortunately, came down with Mr. Migraine for most of the weekend, and four days later, Mr. Migraine is still with me. Driving was fun. Yikes! I realised I wasn't going to make it back in time to return the car by 1 p.m. if I took the secondary highway, so I took the major highway most of the way back. I really, really hate seeing nothing but truck radiator grills in my rearview mirror....

Anyway, didn't kill anybody (intentionally), but I did invoke road rage in one driver who obviously felt I cut him off. The lane was utterly clear when I slid into it (really! it was!), but suddenly there was this white van zooming up my tail-pipe, and there he stayed, forcing me to miss my exit because he was blocking my view of the lane I needed to change to. There was much fisting shaking and horn honking when I finally got out of his sights (from him), leaving me in a cold sweat and grateful I only had half a klick to go to get off the Gardiner Expressway.

Did I mention I hate driving on major highways?

Welcome back TD!

I could have solved your migraine for ya-me and my trusty hammer could have smashed your finger or little toe & your head wouldn't hurt anymore :)

Doesn't pay to get into even a horn honking anymore-someone will pull out a gun & shoot ya!

Glad to have you back home-somewhat in one piece :)

Amos, the way you wave those implements of mass destruction around - yikes!

Been working like a mad thing for the past couple of weeks. Finally got a contract that netted a good-sized chunk of change instead of the nickel-and-dime stuff I'd been getting lately. Not enough to ease my worries about money between now and Christmas; but at least it was big enough to be able to budget for the next few weeks without wondering if I'll have enough to cover my rent by the end of the month.

Took an awful risk yesterday - I ordered my couch. Should be delivered about 1st December. Four months of sitting on a footstool to watch tv has just about done my back in (back off, Amos; I see you coming). Now, of course, I HAVE to get the bedroom painted so I can put the bed back into the bedroom (it's in the living room right now whilst I try and get shed of those awful walls) and get the office bits and pieces sorted out.

Next item(s) on the agenda: bookcases and even more bookcases, one of which is going to be my "display" case where I can put my collection of Star Trek stuff, safely behind glass doors (so I don't have to dust them too often!).

I feel very rich in this place - I have a library, a sitting room, a dining room and a reading room - okay, so they're all in one room, but still! :D It'll be cosy, if nothing else...

Well, with only the desk and computers in the bedroom at the moment, it is kind of echoey in here! It really is quite a good size - or, at least, bigger than any bedroom I've ever had! (Now that I think of it - that's right!).

Mind you, it's still not a big place - but being bigger than my last place, even marginally, gives me a great sense of well-being!

Now, I have to get my overalls on and get painting that bedroom, or the place won't be ready to receive my couch in time!

Hi TD! Where where you? I see your thread is back. You sure that wasn't Amos in that road rage incident? I am sure he is a crazy driver you know! ;) :D

I'm staying away from Amos. His fascination for tools being used in ways not intended by the manufacturers worries me... especially when he dresses up in his nurse's uniform! I hope Mrs. Amos takes appropriate precautions!

:D

I've been really busy with work, which is good. This time last year I was twiddling my thumbs, and continued to twiddle until well into February. I have four projects on the go at the moment, but they should all be completed by the end of the week, and after that, a big blank space on my calendar... the joys of being a freelancer.

Ah, well. There's always a job at Starbucks!

I have to go in for a blood text week after next, to see if the Lipitor is killing me or curing me. Oh, joy. :p

I have to get blood work tomorrow too. I am thankful I am still kicking. One week to my doctors appointment. It seems like eternity when the heart has issues.

TD,
Also lol, lol on Amos and tools. He must be related to "Tim the toolman Taylor" of the old sitcom "Home Improvements" :D

Having one of those days....

Phone has hardly stopped ringing since I started working this morning, so not a lot is getting done.

I managed to send files (hopefully they weren't confidential) to the wrong person, and danced around the issue saying I was having trouble with my e-mail and things weren't getting sent when I wanted them to. (Well, it was true, sort of.)

I then had to send a message to the person to whom I had originally sent the files asking him to ignore and delete, and the worst part is, it's the editor of the magazine I do reviews for, and he's still patiently waiting for reviews I've owed him since March, so I'm giving him a flutter of hope where hope there is none.

I discovered today that the heater in my bedroom is not controlled by the thermostat in my apartment, but by that of my neighbour's (the thermostat having been added as an afterthought to all the units, but somehow the heater in my bedroom got connected to the wrong apartment). Hence, melting in a too-hot apartment. Was scolded by building maintenance for shutting the valve, initially, but was forgiven when the problem was uncovered.

My unpainted bedroom walls sit and stare accusingly at me, demanding attention.

Six magazines await my attention.

An article for a magazine requires research and writing, and I only have until November 8th to do it.

My chapbook still needs completing, and this will be a job to do since my printer no longer supports the software I did it in originally, and now I have to redo the whole damned thing in another programme. Serves me right for dragging my feet on this project!

Meanwhile, the phone calls continue to come, involving work I can't afford to turn down with the sofa on order, but on the other hand, too much of a good thing is stressing me out beyond belief.

This is the first quiet moment I've had all day, and yet, I can't help but look suspiciously at my phone, lying in wait until I get really into doing something, when, with malicious glee, it will ring just at that moment when I can't afford to break my concentration....

I just having one of those days.

In the continuing saga of DIY (do-it-yourself) decorating...

...I've just discovered, after consultations with the paint guy at the hardware store, that the building supplied me with the wrong kind of paint.

What they gave me was base paint, which is fine if one's walls are already a pastel shade. However, my walls are that horrific, dark pink (the colour of madness - madness, I tell you!), which requires primer tinted with grey to neutralise the pink, over which one then uses the base paint and finally the final coat of paint in the colour of my choice. Hence why three coats of the base paint failed to make that awful pink a memory.

(Much gnashing of teeth and rending of hair at the time wasted).

I've got less than five weeks before my sofa arrives, and if I don't get the stuff out of the living room, the sofa is going to have no where to go, not to mention no way to get in since there's a horking great bookcase resting in the hallway that's supposed to be in my bedroom, requiring one to sidle past crab-style or get wedged between the bookcase and the wall, with deletorious results.

Arrgggh.

Tomorrow it's off to the doctor for my 30-day blood test to determine whether the Lipitor I'm taking is killing me or curing me, with a detour to the nurse's station for my flu shot. (Sorry, my American friends - but I have diabetes, and as each bout of flu I get is worse than the last, I am selfishly taking my dose instead of bravely giving it to my neighbours south of the 49th.)

I think the Lipitor is making my hair fall out. There's definitely more daylight between the strands than there was before I started taking it. Mind you, my aunties all thinned out hair-wise by the time they turned 60, so it could be genetic. This sucks.

Treated myself to a movie rental this weekend. "The Day After Tomorrow" turned out to be pretty good (with the news about the wrong paint, I figured one disaster deserved another). I'm sorry now I didn't get a chance to see it on the big screen. Those tornadoes would have been cool to see giant sized!
