Your top 10 Romantic movies

With all the Steven/Love posts around this place, I think it would be fitting to talk about some romantic movies. Would make a nice change from all the macho stuff like "which martial artist could beat up the others?" :D

So which are your favorites? Mine:

1. Casablanca (obviously a must)

2. Random Harvest (awesome British tearjerker)

3. Splendor in the Grass

4. Dr Zhivago

5. Gone with the Wind (another essential)

6. Breakfast at Tiffany's

7. An Affair to Remember

8. It Happened One Night

9. Roman Holiday

10. Somewhere in Time

I prefer the old-fashioned stuff, though there are a couple of more modern ones that I like. Ghost was a good weepy. The Bridges of Madison county too(Clint Eastwood fan here). Roxanne with Steve Martin was another nice one (actually a remake of the classic Cyrano de Bergerac).

I absolutely LOATHE romantic movies, though there are a couple I find tolerable for reasons I can't explain. I'm not sure I can come up with 10, though!

1. Pretty Woman

2. Casablanca

3. Roxanne (yep, I do love Cyrano de Bergerac in all of its incarnations!)

4. Pride and Prejudice (the six-part tv version, with Colin Firth). Now that one I did get all weak-kneed and sappy over.

5. umm... umm...

I guess that's it.

Not much romance in this corner. Ah, well.

Oh! Here's an example of an anti-romance that I liked, much: Dangerous Liaisons (the one with Glenn Close, not the copy-cat Valmont or the modern one with Sarah Michelle Geller).

-TD, relentlessly unromantic from a lifetime of bad handling and disregard by men in general

Great idea, Disciple. Please don't think I've copied your list. :) We both just happen to have remarkably good taste in movies! ;)

These are in no particular order:

1. Gone With the Wind
2. Sabrina - the original with Bogart, although the remake with Harrison Ford was okay, I guess.
3. Breakfast at Tiffany's - And I think Moon River needs to be added to my top five list of theme songs. Beautiful song.
4. Roman Holiday--What is it about Audrey Hepburn, anyway. They don't make 'em like that any more.
5. Pretty Woman
6. Goodbye Girl - Another great theme song. Nuts. We need a top ten list. :D
7. Splendor in the Grass
8. An Affair to Remember
9. Casablanca
10. Summer Place

Sorry, but it's so hard. :)
11. The Quiet Man - John Wayne, romantic? Stranger things have happened. :D
12. My Big Fat Greek Wedding
13. Love is a Many Splendored Thing

Disciple--I'm surprised you would know It Happened One Night. It is a great movie, but not in my top 13. And Bridges of Madison County. OMG--If I ever cry that much through another movie, just shoot me and put me out of my misery. :D You couldn't pay me to watch that again.

No fair, you cheated! :D

Two can play at this game...

11. Ladyhawke

12. Amelie

13. The Princess Bride

14. Chocolat

15. A Summer Place

I mixed in a few modern ones, just to create some balance. Not all of them are "romantic" movies in the traditional sense, but who cares...

Hey, I might actually make 10 at this rate!

TD, even if you haven't found romance in your real life (yet), it's good that you can still enjoy these kinds of movies.

And I knew you guys were closet Princess Bride fans!

I don't have a list of Romantic movies right now...but if I think "Romance" one movie comes to mind... "A Walk In The Clouds".

I'm not gonna list the obvious Classics some of them I don't care for.
Believe it or not the most Romantic scene of any movie (for me) is from "Lady and The Tramp"... when they are eating spaghetty.
How can anyone top that? lol

I also gotta give it to Seagal in FDB....I like the scene where he comes back for Sarah and picks her up like a kid... romantic and funny.
