Your Vacation

With summer almost here and kids getting out of school, I was wondering if any of you had your vacations planned yet, if you're taking one.

Also, maybe you could share some of your favorite vacation experiences.

Or, this thread could go bust, as many of mine do. :D
But that doesn't stop me, eh? ;) :D

I'll go first. As some of you know, I've been fortunate to have done lots of traveling over the years (thanks to working 1-1/2 jobs and having no kids :D). A big trip I've been wanting to do is China that included Beijing (for the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, etc.), Xi'ian (for the terra-cotta legion of soldiers), and a 3-day cruise on the Yangtze River. However, for three years in a row I've had the trip booked, then had to cancel due to warnings about SARS. And it looks like maybe I'll have to postpone it again this year, especially since Hallarian's warning to anyone thinking of traveling to Asia not to.

So I'm back to thinking again.

Some of the highlights of my trips have been to Italy, especially Rome, Venice and Florence, as well as Jerulsalem and Bethlehem, Cairo, the pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx, Switzerland for the spectacular scenery, and Alaska for the same reason.

Oh, yeah--and Disney World. :D

Don't want to hear it, Mr. JustgotbackfromHawaii! :D

Well, it's ok, I guess, as long as Mrs. Amos doesn't mind. ;) :D

I'm taking one trip to Maryland with my girlfriend and her daughter to see the Zoo and the Baltimore Aquarium. Another trip is on a cruise where we stop twice in Canada.

Hey Zen the Baltimore Aquarium is cool. I almost forgot I've been there, and they have that pyramid which is really an artificial rainforest inside.

Sounds like fun at the zoo and aquarium. :) I'm sure her daughter will love that.

Have you ever cruised before? To me, it's the BEST! I'm hooked. :D
I'm sure you and your girlfriend will have an excellent time. :)

I'm supposed to be working all summer through and presumably all September...and then I'll forget myself totally...I already experienced it last year...and when my contract was finished I was finished too... I've been dreaming to have some vacation for years but school days seem to be long gone now so I guess I'll just have to go back to school again...to earn some vacation  If this damned EU doesn't kill me first...;)

Hey,Zen,when you get to the Zoo don't forget to protect yourself from the wild animals... and your girlfriend too:D
And also make sure in that aquarium you won't be eaten by a shark :D

OK, Mo. Bound

We will be traveling to Oklahoma June 7th to 11th.
My stepdaughter lives there! Before we get to OK,
we plan to stop at Fort Smith Arkansas, to see
the infamous court house where Judge Parker
(the hanging judge), sentenced so many Indians
to death by hanging. It is where the trail of tears
supposedly ended. It will be very emotional for me
to see. I am Irish, English on mom's side, and English
Indian on dad's...Oh, I forgot :D Memorial Day we are
traveling to my family reunion to Missouri, where the
trail of tears started! They even have guided tours
there.......:) Serena, I am envious of you have been
to so many beautiful places! :D love to all. kat

Not really vocations ... more like visits...

I've been to many places as part of my ongoing contracts, but soon, I'll be going to Montreal for the Canadian Formula1 Grand Prix ... should be fun, as it's considered to be one of the fastest race tracks of the season. I'm also planning a trip to San Marino and Monaco for the next year (just recently got the word that I'll have some free time next summer) ... for the next F1 GPs ... should be fun.

It doesn't look like I'll get to go to the cottage this year (I posted my cottage pics elsewhere). :(

Maybe I'll just rent a car for the weekend and maybe stay at a bed-and-breakfast, or something.

My most memorable vacation was my first "solo" car trip to Nova Scotia from Toronto. Well, not really solo - I took my friend along. We camped, stayed at motels, went sight-seeing (and did everything we wanted to see in Prince Edward Island in four hours - that is one small island!). The following year I did the same trip, but this time really solo. Camped by myself. Alas, couldn't do that now (safety concerns) but back then it wasn't as dangerous. Well, it was, it just wasn't as obviously dangerous as it is now.

I love driving. Put me behind the wheel of a car and I could go on forever.

A trip I'd love to take is one westward - been east already, so west would be the next big trip. I'd like to do it by train, even though it's horrendously expensive. I don't think I'd fancy driving through the prairies much... and taking the train through the Rocky Mountains would be the coolest thing.
