"Hi Suzi,

I’m contacting on behalf of the outreach team for Street Wars, Steven Seagal's newest Redbox release which comes out June 3. Given the amount of unique Seagal content on the site, I thought I’d reach out and see how we could collaborate. Besides the film being the type of gritty crime and action thriller Seagal fans love, we have exclusive Seagal teasers and photos from the film. We’d love if you could post the trailer, and we hope to find other ways to help spread the word of this release to Seagal fans. Below is the trailer and a quick synopsis.

Three-second Synopsis

Elijah Kane and his team battle a flood of new street-lab drugs that spike the body count in the night life of Seattle.

Street Wars Trailer:

As a leader in the community of dedicated Seagal fans, is there anywhere else you would recommend we look or who might be interested in this newest release?

With appreciation,

Dave N."

I reviewed this almost three years ago - http://www.avforums.com/review/true-justice-review.8925

It's not a 'movie' at all, and it's sure as hell not his 'newest' release, so I'm not sure who these 'dedicated Seagal fans' are who don't even realise these fairly important facts.

Who is this guy??

Redbox is releasing in the US and is only now starting the release of the series. Just have a look in the history on Seagals facebook page. And the serie is released everywhere as movies (2 episodes combined as 1 movie).

I cannot fathom how Seagal's own facebook page would promote this as a series of movies. It's one of the things I shout and scream about in every single one of the half-dozen reviews I've done of these so-called 'movies' now, not that anybody was listening.

At least in places like Germany and Italy the 'movies' have been released under the branched "True Justice" title, released in order, and then released in a complete series box set at the end of the run (including the 13 episodes to finish the series off). Now that's how to do the series 'justice'.

In the UK we had them released in a ridiculous order; episodes 3-4, then 7-8, then 5-6, then 9-10, then Season 2 episodes 1-2, then back to Season 1 for episodes 11-12 (no release of episode 13, so Season 1 never ended, and the 'continued' story in Episode 1 of Season 2 made absolutely no sense out of context)... etc. etc.

I would like to believe that Seagal himself has no idea that this is the way that True Justice has been presented and promoted in many territories. I would like to believe that, if he knew, he would have objected to it. But the fact that it's still disseminated in this same ridiculous, ignorant way on his own official facebook page is just plain scary.

I'm waiting patiently (3 years now and counting) to pick up the entire Season 1 and Season 2 on Blu-ray, in order, and with all 13 episodes present and accounted for, for which I'll have to wait until the Summer, when Germany gets around to finally releasing the Season 2 box set (I own the Season 1 DVD box set from Australia which has all 13 episodes, but unfortunately even the Australians screwed up the Season 2 release and didn't bother including the final episode!!).

However, I'm that much of a fan that I'm prepared to wait and pay the extra money. But, if it's that hard for a fan to pick up his series and watch it in the way it was intended to be watched, then imagine how many more casual viewers will be put off by shoddy 'movie' releases like Street Wars being peddled purely for profit.

This can do no good in the long run.

Still there is no end to this series. That's what makes me sad also. When you have watched all the episodes in the right order (like me) you still have no idea where it is going. The cliffhanger at the end of Season 2 is not so good. But there won't be a 3rd Season so why even bother to watch this....so frustrating

Seven Year Storm, you certainly make some great points And it was a well-written review. Street Wars is not a new release. But given that it's Seagal and Redbox is a great movie option, we wanted to make the Seagal community aware that it was coming next month.

It's certainly the best fit for the Seagal audience and those who appreciate watching Steven, and don't mind cutting a little slack for the story. It's more about the availability of the film, particularly for the Steven's US fanbase. In addition, we do have some content that was not released the first time around. Hope this helps, and thanks for the honesty and being such a huge fan.

Thanks for posting on the forum, we're certainly privileged to hear from you directly!

I agree that Redbox is a good option for Seagal fans, particular those perhaps who are a little more casual and aren't necessarily prepared to buy his movies outright anymore.

I've noticed though that you offer Deadly Crossing and Dark Vengeance as well as Street Wars. Do you think that maybe it would be worth linking these slightly better on the Redbox site?

Deadly Crossing represents a splice of episodes 1 and 2 of True Justice, with Dark Vengeance being 3-4 and Street Wars being 5-6.

The reason I suggest this is that I've noticed from some of the comments on these titles that the only viewers that notice that this is part of Seagal's TV series are those who watched the 'pilot' - Deadly Crossing. Those who commented on the other two 'movies' appear to have found them incoherent. They're not. If they're watched as episodes rather than movies. Perhaps this would also increase your requests because those who watch the pilot may be up for watching further episodes, but they may not know that there are any more available. Even if they do watch all of the titles available under a simple 'search' for 'seagal', they may not know to watch the episodes in the correct order (i.e. Dark Vengeance before Street Wars) so you could even number the volumes so that people are encouraged to watch them in order and thus *perhaps* like them more.

I appreciate that Redbox is attempting to get these titles out to a large client base, thus encouraging interest in Seagal, which has admittedly been dwindling as of late, but sometimes putting forward material in the wrong format can have a negative effect - some of the viewers who have only seen Street Wars or Dark Vengeance out of context have commented on Redbox rather disparagingly about Seagal. This may not be completely reversed by a better, more informed presentation (i.e. advertising them as episodes from True Justice, or at least part of an ongoing series of *movies*) but it could be mitigated.

IMO.

As I stated at the outset though, it is great to hear directly back from somebody actually in a position to market and distribute Seagal's releases at all, as the majority of us can do little more than offer our honest opinions.

Thanks, Cas

Mr. Nestoff, good of you to post here. Thanks for your explanation.

Sevenyearstorm, you have some well-thought-out ideas and observations. From the sounds of things, if someone who isn't familiar with Seagal or only has vague recollections or him or heard talk of him as an action hero decades ago, they could very well end up not becoming a re-interested fan or even a new one if these aren't released in order and very specific. And, at this point, with the type (or lack thereof) of current action heroes, I doubt something like this will endear Steven to them or spark their interest for more.

As I said in my intro post, I've not had much of a chance to follow him that closely in the last couple of years, though did very closely prior to that. I am somewhat familiar with the Lawman series. Though, to be honest, I was kind of disappointed in it. I think I would rather see him in a straight-to-DVD movie rather than something like that. I lost track of it and I assume it was canceled.

I was not familiar with the True Justice series until I came onto this site. I don't get Reelz on my digital TV company. From what I've managed to pick up here, I think True Justice was more of a "fictitious series" as opposed to the reality show of Lawman? Although, as big a fan as I am, at the time I remember thinking Lawman was some pretty good fiction. :D

If it is indeed coming out on Redbox, now may be my chance to follow this show. I wonder if I will know the correct order on Redbox, though, if it's being marketed as a "movie"? From what Sevenyearstorm said, "Deadly Crossing represents a splice of episodes 1 and 2 of True Justice, with Dark Vengeance being 3-4 and Street Wars being 5-6." This is very helpful!

DiDa, your post also was helpful. At least I'll know going into this there won't be a "series finale". Sometimes those are good. Sometimes, you have one like "The Sopranos". :D

Dave, thanks for taking the time to post here regarding the Red Box releases of the TRUE JUSTICE series. Aside from being available in the US via Reelz (which I do not have), these are the first domestic releases, even if they are only for rental. I only hope the series (both seasons) will eventually be released here in the US for purchase. Also of note, the series is being released in Canada in the DTV movie format. The six movies from season 1 were released in 2013 and the first two movies of season 2 have been released in 2014. The third, VIOLENCE OF ACTION, is due out in June. I assume the other three movies from season 2 will follow later this year, as they have been released every other month. It appears neither season will have the individual last episodes released - hopefully they edit the intent of the subject plot into the final movies of each season. Still hoping for a US DVD release, though.

Personally I thought the Lawman series showed a bit of a different side...there was a lot of personal aspects within it....even some comedy.......was kind of refreshing after so many STV movies that (to me) were all pretty much the same(I do have a few exceptions tho')

Basically 'True Justice' was about Seagal being a 'father figure' to his team(he calls them his 'kids' in the show), giving pointers and advice to the young team.

If it is indeed coming out on Redbox, now may be my chance to follow this show.
If you want to watch 'True Justice' as it was really intended ....go to:

EDIT: Please see IMPORTANT NOTE 2 posts down(JL)

they have the complete season one, TV versions....this is the way it was meant to be viewed.
REELZ is not a DVD production company so you're never going to see 'Lawman' 3 season on DVD....
they bought it from A&E(now A&E did produce the DVD seasons they 'owned')...but A&E dropped it after the lawsuit. Seagal suggested to REELZ to buy out the remaining filmed episodes(Arizona)...hence the name 'Lawman 3:The lost episodes'
'True Justice' DVDs are most likely never going to get a US release(it would have happened by now)...if you look carefully you'll notice they are not aimed at the US market.

At least I'll know going into this there won't be a "series finale".
Yep....there never was an explanation as to why they left it that way either...there's no mention of a 'True Justice' 3 that I've come across .
PS: If you want a good episode of 'True Justice' to watch...check out episode 13..'Payback'....

Thanks for the warm welcome, all!

This is certainly something worth considering, although it's not a decision I can make directly. I'm highly aware of the negative remarks regarding the previous films, particularly Dark Vengeance, which do seem to correlate to the lack of transparency.

As I stated at the outset though, it is great to hear directly back from somebody actually in a position to market and distribute Seagal's releases at all, as the majority of us can do little more than offer our honest opinions.

I'm glad to be here, and am very open to any and all questions and ideas. In the days I spent reading other forum posts, I know full well how dedication and opinionated (in a good way) members of this community are.

In regards to doing more, would anyone be interested in helping to spread a release like this? Off the top of my head, I'm curious if anyone on this forum has access or administration to any of the numerous Facebook Groups dedicated to Seagal. I mentioned we have additional content to offer. On top of that we'll be having weekly Facebook giveaways for both the worldwide and US fanbases of Seagal. At the very least, we'd love to make these satellite communities aware of the release and the giveaways.

We would also love to share written or visual Seagal fan content on the Street Wars page. If you look at Dark Vengeance's Facebook page, there is an audience of 50,000 Seagal fans - as we grow Street Wars on Facebook, it could provide the ability to share your content widely by a group of people who will appreciate most.

Best of wishes.

Thanks for your input, J. Lucas!! Appreciate you taking the time to answer those specific points.

It seems that you've been a long-time fan of Seagal, as I have been, so I think I would give that Lawman series another look if given the chance. Not sure if it's available anywhere, but I'll check into that. I can't stand the garbage that's on TV these days and I'm always looking for something different. Things going on at the time it was airing didn't give me much time to follow it and I didn't have DVR back then. Now I'm not sure how I lived without it. LOL Mostly for zipping through commercials, of course! :D

Basically 'True Justice' was about Seagal being a 'father figure' to his team(he calls them his 'kids' in the show), giving pointers and advice to the young team.

I sure had the wrong idea about that show! I hadn't heard of it before coming to this site and don't get that channel, but there were so many comments/threads here about it that I couldn't read every single one. Thanks for that link!! I never heard of that site, but if it is indeed "free", that's for ME!! :D

Your welcome....I don't post often here anymore, but if I see something I think I may be able to help with ...then I do
It seems that you've been a long-time fan of Seagal, as I have been,
Yeah I guess....maybe too long...you mention DVR, I come from the VHS recorder days...lol
so I think I would give that Lawman series another look if given the chance. Not sure if it's available anywhere, but I'll check into that.
depends...if someone is looking for an action packed Seagal does 'Cops' TV show...this isn't it.
When it 1st aired on A&E(US) it actually got very good ratings, which led to a more 'grittier' season 2. Not bad at all for a 1st time TV show for Seagal....
(quoting another post of mine)...all 3 seasons of Lawman is there,(TV ..not DVDrips) and you can watch them from there, no downloading unless you want to,
mostly older 'stuff'...remember some of the 'ole' Seagal soundtracks CDs?....
various youtube old clips of Seagal and Band, etc. SNL show, PTC show...things like that....Seagal Aikido clips....couple of scanned magazines..

I can't stand the garbage that's on TV these days and I'm always looking for something different.
'Garbage' is way too high a rating...'Sh*t' is more like it...
'Garbage' is something that is part of day to day being a human being....
'Sh*t' is something that belongs in the sewer and is forgotten about...

I sure had the wrong idea about that show!
Of course...with it being a TV series(as was meant to be)in a few countries and then also being a DVD series of so-called movies, most anyone would be confused what the hell is this all about.
Think about the average person, goes into their favorite video rental place....asks..'Hey...what's the newest Seagal flick?"...they hand the person 'Deadly Crossing' or any of the other ones....
they take it home, watch it, then try and figure out what was that they just watched.
They go on the internet...find out that 'True Justice' is a rejected TV show(except in a few countries) that has been re-edited and re-marketed as a movie.
The 'True Justice' series was destined to be confusing from day one.
The only way to maybe get some kind of appreciation for it , is to view it as intended..
a TV show....in episode order(because there are flashbacks in some episodes).
on top of it, when the DVDs popped up they didn't even include the final episode...so here anyone who was spending money for it got cheated.
Personally I trace just about all current troubles for Seagal to Bing Dhan...he's the guy responsible for the over exploitation of Seagal....I see this started in 20001...pre-Exit Wounds release.
Another lawsuit? Did that involve Seagal directly?
Well....the Lawman 3 lawsuit was filed against the county sheriff's office(if I remember), which Seagal was working with at the time....his name was mentioned because it was the filming of an episode of Lawman that led to the property destruction and animal killings. It was alleged that it was done on purpose for the TV show. The series was shut down again and forgotten about.
Seagal then moved on to the True Justice stuff....it can be extremely confusing when you realize that Lawman3 is still showing as a current show tho' it was filmed before True Justice, .... most people have seen the True Justice series before the Lawman series 3.
PS: The controversial episode is Lawman 3 episode 6 'Blood In The Sand'

@ J. Lucas:

Oh, I just started with the DVR -- and only because I got it free for 6 months when I told the cable company I was leaving. LOL I had one of the original dual videocassette/DVD players -- at least 15+ years old. When it broke, no one could fix it -- or just wouldn't. LOL

Good this isn't like Cops! LOL Never could stand Cops. Just my personal opinion and no offense to those who like that or reality TV, because it all boils down to personal taste and preferences. Reality stuff just isn't for me.

Thanks for that link! I will definitely be checking that out. Between this and that other link you posted above, it sounds like I might be able to view Lawman in its entirety and in order. Been a while since I've seen that much new Seagal. :D

Re: Garbage/sh*t: HAHAAAA!! Now that's hilarious!
Even more so because it's true. :D

About what you said about the average person going into a video store, etc.: That's the absolute truth!! I mentioned something similar in a previous post. Supposedly Seagal's team wants to maintain the current fans and hopefully build a new, younger fan base. But so many today don't have the time or the patience to take all the steps you just mentioned. And here anyway video stores are rapidly disappearing with so many going to Netflix, etc. etc. I'm afraid only the long-time established fans would even bother to try to keep up with the effort needed to figure out the order of any of the episodes, to be honest.

Don't know the name "Bing Dhan". And when I googled it, it asks "Did you mean: Binh Dan, Bing Chan, Bing Tan, Bingshan?" LOL The name sounds familiar to me from a long time ago and I feel like I should remember it, but don't.

Can't thank you enough for taking so much time to explain all this! Honestly, I did try to read through a bunch of threads here while waiting for membership to be activated, but between the personal opinions and the sheer number of posts amongst all the threads, I just got lost. LOL

No need to spend any more time than you already have replying to all this! Remember -- you don't post here that often anymore! :D :D I hope other "newbies" come across this thread and your post, though, as I've found it extremely valuable and helpful. Thanks again! :)

Do I understand this to mean that all of this is at a site of yours now, J. Lucas??
If so, that is AWSOME! Really good of you to share that with the fans here.
And REALLY good of you to spare us from any possible bugs! :D

As soon as the long holiday weekend here is over, I'd like to start checking that out.

Binh Dang! Of course, no wonder the name was so familiar. The beginning of the downhill trend indeed! Now whether this was inevitable due to Seagal's interest in pursuing other endeavors-- specifically his music/concerts/perfotmances -- plus his philanthropic/political trips, etc. (which obviously took up so much of his time and effort), or due to Dang's influence is is a matter of opinion, I guess.

But is it coincidence that Dang's name is attached as producer of some sort or other to some of the "worst" movies of Seagal's career? I don't think so! That danged Dang!. :D

Yes...it's just an on-line storage site I started using for Seagal 'stuff' years ago....
I just saw the thing about 'True Justice' and decided to put them on there so people had the chance to see it as it was intended to be viewed on TV(ep by ep).
