Hmmm....all the reviews telle more or less the same.
For a Seagal dtv is better then recent projects, but as a movie on itself is not good.

Looks like another chance for turning his career around is gone.

I depends what you expect when you watch it

If you compare it to Seagals STV efforts that its a decent film with good action scenes

If you compare it to his early work or big budget films like Taken etc then its not that standard

Now that sounds like a real Seagal fan review. Most of the time we get reviews of Seagal movies from these bums that hate Seagal. These gay drama queens should stay away from bloody action films and review musicals or something similar.

Give it a rest. All reviews say the same, good Seagal flick, bad as a regular movie. Why are they
gay drama queens
?

Be honest, Seagals latest bunch of movies are compared to mainstream movies not that good. Enjoyable to us fans of Seagal but for 'normal' (action) movie fans totally uninteresting.

He should step away from his routine and more stuff like Machete, Into the sun and sorts, hell even the untitled onion movie was a welcome change. He should give up his involvement in the producing bit of a film and let himself be 'guided' by others in the process. Perhaps that good deliver us a couple of decent movies also suitable for mainstream audiences which could land him bigger or at least better projects.

The review from Dans Movie Report is positive, but it's the only one.....should make you think who is right. Remember that moviecritics are asked to be honest, not to be positive. So dishing them because they don't write what you would like to read is unfair and totally uncalled for.

Hope to be watching agm soon though and judge for myself whether its good or not.

Peace

The only problem is: Most of the people reviewing Seagal's movies hate him with a passion(most admit that before they even give the review). That has been the case since he was putting out movies in theatres. Obviously he is not making great action films like he did in the 90's but I would prefer reviews from Seagal fans or fans of action films. I'm sure if Seagal made a film like The Birdcage he would be applauded for his acting prowess. His movies are what they are now: small budget action films. Some are ok and some are below par but dont just trash the film because Seagal is headlining it, and you have a tremendous hate for him.

Hello..was going to respond to the 'why people download vs buying Seagal DTV' but since it is 'off topic' won't here....my question(no..I haven't watched it yet) is since "A Good Man" is the sequel to "Force Of Execution"....
does anyone feel it's a good idea to watch FOE before viewing AGM;
what I mean is......is it needed to understand the story better?
are the references to the 1st film in this one?
is Seagal(Alexander) the only recurring character?

Thanks & Hi to all who know me from the past

Hi John,

Haven't seen AGM yet, but what i've read about it so far there is no need to watch foe before this one. Personally I wouldn't recommend it, tried watching FOE several times but never could finish it one go (kept falling asleep). I didn't like FOE very much.

Peace

No you dont need to watch FOE and there are no references....its also supposed to be a prequel to FOE

Also I think FOE is one of his strongest STV films but its all about opinons...there is more Seagal in this than FOE

Yep....you're right.....don't need to see FOE before(thought I did watch it)...don't understand the concept of it being a prequel nor a sequel....I thought at the end of FOE Alexander was going to retire(that's the same ending in AGM)...if it's prequel then what? Alexander came out of retirement to begin a new career as a 'crime lord'....after he states the he's "a just a guy that does bad thing to bad people"....doesn't make any sense to me....so I see it as a stand alone film....the charater just happens to have the same name.

Ok....my review........actually I liked; even watched it twice which was a mistake, 'cause I caught all the mistakes I didn't the 1st time thru..:)
If I can make it thru any of these Seagal DTV without having to stop it and pickup on it at a later time; I consider it OK....
FOE vs AGM: AGM is better
has a nice catchy 10mt. beginning(Yes!..helicopters and I think it has the record for the most times Seagal usues the words 'f*ck/motherf*cker' in one minute)....then we jump ahead 2 years to where the movie takes place.
enough fight action scenes thru out without any long lags...
hand to hand & short sword(Seagal's main choice of weapon in this film)...
NO...silly 5mt car chase scene(big plus)
the secondary story with the brother/sister's is Ok and melds with the initial one OK.
Russian gang is unlikeable enough(usual Russian strip bar scene too)
not sure how to rate a Seagal DTV these days...years ago it was just good or bad...with so many Seagal has put out over the years, it has been more of finding where they fit in a lineup.....but in my eyes it has a for sure standing in the far better section area...it seems when I read some reviews about the SS-DTV lineage....there are ones I liked and others despised....so it just may be my preferred taste.
decent editing: doubles only extremely noticeable upon 2nd viewing because I knew what was coming.
dubbing?...I don't know for sure(which is a good sign)
as with all of his DTV... the usual questions as 'How did they....? or 'Why didn't they just....?"..How did he...?"....meaning some parts don't make sense.
Bottom line:
it is one of the better Seagal DTVs as to the lousey to completely sh*t ones.
J.L. :)
PS: yep.....typical Binh Danh ending....naked girl and Seagal in an overcoat(
(Dang still wants to push that idea that young women still find 'his boy' irresistible, tho' I never see any in the audience at his concerts')
actually they could've just cut the ending right after the climax...we all knew what choices the others were going to make already.

I finally watched the movie, it took 3 attempts to get through it. Cheap looking Romanian set and bad supporting cast. Just like MC and FOE the majority of the fight scenes are done by the other actors! :( I will admit the sword fight at the end with Seagal was pretty cool!

It is just so disappointing to see an Akido Master being out shinned by a former stock broker! I would say that Victor Webster had 3/4 of the fight scenes, which were cool, but he is not a very likable actor and I won't be rushing to see any of his other work anytime soon.

I am personally starting to lose faith in Mr. Seagal. I own all of his movies (even Attack Force and Clementine), but I seriously don't know if I can spend my hard earned money on this Romanian piece of garbage!

The best days are most certainly behind us. I would even be happy to see another Keeper or Pisotal Whipped Quality movie, but this is definitely another step down like MC and FOE. If Seagal isn't going to have the majority of the screen time, and fight scenes, the movie should center on a better known leading actor, and he should start taking on more cameo's, at least then he could have one or two cool scenes, and the expectation wouldn't be there for it to be a "Seagal" movie (i.e. Machete).

Unfortunately, his name still sells obviously, that's why he can keep crunching out these turds... not optimistic for the future!!!

LOSING FAITH!

I think his recent run of MC,FOE, and AGM is the best run of films he has put together for a long time IMO

Like Lucas says above everyone has their own opinion of what Seagal films are good or bad in the STV world

I had no real liking for TK and IMO its one of the most boring of his STV films however alot of Seagal fans love it

As for people doing the fighting it did not bother me in MC or FOE as the other cast members Austin,Foster etc were OK I have to agree about Victor Webster though has I agree there was something unlikable about him but his fight scenes were impressive(Seagal has 4 fights also)

At the end of the day I would rather watch a Seagal film which had other co-stars and less Seagal than a film which Seagal has alot of scenes but is crap film(OFAK,OOR)

Absolution will be the same and I expect Jones and Mann also to have alot of screen time and fights

Judging by of all your varying opinions, I am confident that the movie will entertain me. Maximum Conviction was not so good, but not completely bad. Force of Execution was a very good movie, but still not on the level of Pistol Whipped.

I have a question to you all and I am very interested how you think it. We know Seagals ego and we know that he polarizes in positive and negative effects. But do we want a change?

Do you want a Seagal who is not more Seagal? Please think about it. A Seagal who is not different than others is lacking individuality. Sure a lot of people don't like individuals, but why is that so? I don't know the answer. Sure individualism can or makes you special, but is this so bad? That we can be individuals with own thinking and own ideas is one of he major principles being human and this is what I love being alive.
I am also a so-called lone wolf with my ideas and world-views, but this doesn't mean I don't love humankind.

Because Seagal is polarizing, he creates more interest in my opinion. Look, l love also other martial artists, who are doing/ did movies.
Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris especially. Van Damme not so much, even if he did a few very good movies, but as a whole he is not so convincing.
This applies to his movie-work.

Movies are entertainment, whether they are called "A" or "B"-pictures. They must entertain and Seagals entire movie career is like Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris great and satisfying entertainment. He gives me that what I am expecting. Sure I could have demands, but I am trying to appreciate the product I am recieving.

If you wish something, you know it could go in the opposite direction and this is my approach. I am trying to be minimalistic as possible, which leads me into Maximum Conviction. It has its moments, but since Austin has more screentime in this one, I felt a little bit disappointed.
But this applies to Maximum Conviction. In Against the Dark we have also less Seagal and I enjoy it very much, because of its setting and its unique status so-far.

Like Lucas says above everyone has their own opinion of what Seagal films are good or bad in the STV world
not even in the STV world.....what I meant was that I 'judge' a Seagal DTV in against his other works on DTV...there is no other margin I can weigh them with....just for the heck of it....just recently I watched 'Expendables 3'(big names/big budget) and 'Good Man'.....which one was more of a let down?..
Expendables 3 was......due to the fact that I expected with the names and budget it had to be good....now 'Good man' (to me) was OK, because I know what to expect in a Seagal DTV(it's been the same since 2000)...they vary all over the place.....in my 'taste' it is for sure one of the better ones, maybe even in the 'best of Seagal DTV list'(rate 7-10 area)....
my expectations for Expendables was much higher...hell, it's supposed to be a main stream theater feature demanding top ticket prices....even IMAX experience...to me 'The Expendables 3' failed...whereas 'A Good Man' succeeded.
If you go the the IMDB and bring up the filmography of Seagal, then just look at post 2000 when the STV started, most are in the 3/4 rate....which is normal for what one can expect.....now the ones that get a 4/5(I don't think a 6 even exists) seem to parallel my view.
J.Lucas
PS: If someone said "make me a 10 DVD package of the Seagal DTVs"...I would put 'A Good Man' in there
Now where it would line up within those 10 is another issue....some Seagal DTV I just out right will never watch again nor even suggest.
---
Yes, I understand the thing about not liking a particular person...I too will not even watch a video if it has someone in it I can't stand, or if I do 'force' myself to watch it , it will definitely sway my overall opinion for the worse(I don't know this Webster guy except for AGM)..
now Siezmore and Hopper in 'Ticker' helped 'sway that one into a better position that I would normally have given that DTV.
Because Seagal is polarizing, ...
Seagal 'polarized' himself even before the film 'On Deadly Ground'; came out...that's one of the reasons critics bashed it to hell

Being a critic is not easy, but - this is my opinion - art + entertainment must provoke. If not, then they are not interesting to deal with. Imagine the boredom. Secondary I don't like the approach of professional critics who are bashing my interests.

In my view a critic should have the responsibility to present his/her work in as-most-as-possible neutral position including research. Many critics don't research for their work. Sorry, I am attacking somebody, but this is the truth.

Look into the history of movie-criticism and how much negative energy is there. They don't care to research why is that how it is. The views, actions and words by producers and actors are too often neglected. Seagal is one good example. He is always bashed down. They seem to forget that Seagal (according to himself) he never tried to be an actor. He is a martial artist. Secondary he loves being a blues musician more than acting.

Name me one critic who considered/ considers these two facts. Vern does, but who else?

Last but not least, I am always encouraging people to watch for themselves without being influenced by me and the critics. If they ask me, I say "watch it and when you are done, we talk."

Agree 100%

Thats what ive been saying on here for years....you cant judge Seagals new films on his early work its just unrealistic

Is AGM better than OFJ or HTK etc.....no but those films had big budgets,Warner Bros backing, better casts, more shooting time

I judge AGM with other Seagal films post 2002 and other STV films from other actors like Van Damme etc

I personally think MC and FOE are pretty boring and I got the feeling you notice the lack of budget there. I also don't like the fact Seagal has only a limited screen time in his latest movies.

However, I think MA will have pretty good action scenes looking at the pictures and the words from Keoni Waxman, we will see. At the moment, I also look forward to the Alabama movie and the movie they probably plan to film in Asia.
