For you Hard Core Loyals

Many of the members on this site probably regard Seagal as their “Favorite” action star. The Webster’s definition of “Favorite” is “A competitor judged most likely to win” and/or “one that is treated with special favor or liking.” I think we would agree that both those definitions apply to Seagal, although the former statement may be highly contested with those who instead favor Norris, Van Damme, etc. The psychology is very much akin to why people pick a favorite football team, whether they play poorly or well. Loyalty has much to do with it.

The Encyclopedia Britannica states that “Loyalty, as a general term, signifies a person’s sentiment of attachment to a particular object, which may be another person. It expresses itself in both thought and action and strives for the identification of the interests of the loyal person with those of the object. Loyalty turns into fanaticism when it becomes wild and unreasoning; and into resignation when it displays the characteristics of reluctant acceptance.”

Back to the football analogy, Seagal has dropped the ball a few times on some of his recent less than stellar films, and occasionally made a touchdown. Although even when he is at his worse, his most loyal fans have never had their loyalty turn to resignation and reluctant acceptance. Our acceptance has always been enthusiastic and wholehearted.

Think of Seagal, Norris, Van Damme, etc as brands and then consider the four patterns of behavior in regards to customer’s commitments to brands. There are “Hard core loyals” who buy a certain brand all the time. There are “Soft Core loyals” who are loyal to two or three brands. There are “Shifting Loyals” who move from one brand to another. And lastly there are “Switchers” with no loyalty at all.

I would guess that the majority of members on this site would fall into the “Hard core loyal” category. I suppose I am curious as to what exactly makes you a “Hard core loyal.” I am interested in the opinion of the person who doesn’t particularly care how terrible a film of his is, or how much weight he’s gained (or lost), but has a tendency to disregard these things and instead give him the benefit of the doubt and let the “Shifters” or the “Switchers” do the complaining.

I personally identify with the fact that he has developed a very distinct style as over the decades and has in some ways gotten better with age. He is a survivor and he has earned the title of “Icon,” like a zen version of a martial arts John Wayne, although way more multifaceted than Wayne.

So, why do YOU remain a “Hard core loyal?”

Well I am definitely the 'Hard core loyal' type ! I just love him to bits, regardless of anything ! I love all his films, because he is in them ! I love all his songs, because, he sings them ! I love the look on his face, when he is serious, his devilish smile, his laugh, his stare and not knowing what he is going to do next ! :) I think that his skin is beautiful, I love his hands and basically he is a very handsome, magnetic guy and he sends my pulse racing, my heart thumping every time I look at his picture ! Now I now that I could be boring  because of all of the above, as I would be hopeless in debating or comparing his films, as I said, I love them all !! :D But I love when other fans share debates, share information and upload, films, photographs and interviews - so thank you all very much for being on this site !!! ;)Coleen xxxxxxxxxx (group huggies everybody):apeace::apeace:

Steven Seagal is the Icon of our time and carries on the heroic traditions of Clint Eastwood, Gary Cooper, and John Wayne in dvd and on the big screen

I agree with irish coleen. I just love everything about him.If the film wasn't to good,it's ok because he was in it.I seen him in person and he looked great. you don't stop caring about someone just because they gained weight or got older. He's the best there is and always will be.Hope he will always do more films and hopefully more cds.

Ok, so this is the same as what a lot of others have said - I first started watching Steven because I was into martial arts, especially aikido, and he is the master. (interesting aside: when I lived in England, my first aikido sensei had trained with Seagal). Watching him was like taking an extra lesson.
Then I just kinda fell in love with our Steven... he is absolutely gorgeous and keeps on getting more and more sexy with every passing year. So I started watching more and more of his movies and you know how it all goes from there.
I love his voice, his eyes, the way he moves. And I have the deepest respect for all the philanthropic work he does. His spirituality attracts and intrigues me. I have always loved the blues, so him being a blues musician just adds one more reason to love the guy.
It doesn't matter much to me if his movies are not "brilliant" movies in some technical sense - they are brilliant to me because they bring Steven (with those eyes, that voice, that everything...) into my living room. Or bedroom. Or whatever!
He rocks my world, he cheers me up when I am depressed and I don't care if y'all think I'm some crazy lady (I am), but I love Steven Seagal. And I hope one day to tell him that in person. Shortly before he calls security. :D

I agree with there Tigerfeet - he is the best antidepressant ever!!! Not just his looks, but his absolute humanity attracted me to him from the first. I love his humour, especially in "Glimmerman".

Im a hardcore loyal, though I won't purchase ticker or clementine since he's not really in the starring role same as against the dark, and I only have exectuive decision because it came in the box set, though I have all his other films, I just need killswitch when its released over here and ruslan

Hard To Kill
I think when I saw his first movie "Above The Law" I was pretty much hooked with Seagal. He brought to the silver screen a new demension to the martial arts movies. Usually you would see TKD or Judo, but when he brought Akido to the movies more people were getting interested to this new style he brought. I will always be a Die hard loyal fan through his best or worst movies I will always be interested in what he brings next to screen. :apeace:

Steven seagal always makes me smile when I see him in action, because you know whats coming, and he just kicks so much ass

For me, it's a love/hate kind of relationship. The thing that is so striking about this man is that while he appears to be a very smart and gentle fellow with extreme selflessness, is also one of the most dirties and most despicable humans who ever walked on this earth. The man's film career speaks for itself in any movie in which he has played different character only himself in reality. In Above the Law, he played a cop while in real life he's of course one too. In Out For Justice he plays a cross between a mob and a cop, funny how he was in the mob in those years pulling off a perfect job as Gino. From Deadly Ground to the late 90's he suddenly became a spiritual man as well as a Buddhist as you can see in Glimmer Man. Not to forget he's a musician also, a blues musician which in some sick way he managed the world to believe in, including me. What makes Steven so intricate and mysterious is the fact that for so many years this tough guy has been able to keep his mouth shut and make so much harm yet so much pleasure and contemplation/corruption exposure that you could almost wonder if life is a just a big joke. Oh and please, charity doesn't work on me. Every single celebrity is forced to do it anyhow. So what is my conclusion of Steven, DESPITE all this true crap written of him even though I love him? Here's good quote that will make everything I just wrote more sensible:

The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.
