Half Past Dead...

Tonight I did my bit and went to see HALF PAST DEAD (Yes - it has finally arrived on these shores, no less than a year after it was completed!). There were two other people in the cinema besides me! That'll be a grand total of £20 in total for the entire opening weekend of Half Past Dead in the UK then! Hahahahahahahahaha! I actually thought the film was pretty good - Seagal did a good job, as did Ja Rule, and Morris Chestnut was excellent. Can't understand what all the bad reviews are about really - to me, this was a by the numbers action thriller with little to differentiate it from the majority of all other action thrillers. The helicopter crash landing sequence was well filmed and there were a few cool one liners. Seagal's fights, while brief and nowhere near as plentiful as I'd have liked, were good, and he didn't look half as sluggish (or overweight) as some have been saying. It wasn't as good as Exit Wounds, but I am excited about The Foreigner and Seagal's other upcoming projects

Hahaha... Amos, where did I put my 12 gauge?!

One other thing I meant to say was that I don't think the 15 certificate was necessary, as there was more violence in X2, which was only a 12! However, I think the violence in HPD should have been more graphic, as there was not nearly enough gore for my twisted brain!

X2 was awesome, by the way.

Yeah...me too...but being it was filmed right after Sept 11th here in the US....they choose they didn't really want to go that direction......the director chose more "flash" rather than blood ....he explains it all in the HPD commentary as you watch the movie on DVD......it's pretty insightful....and explains things about how they couldn't use helicopters past 9pm....they had such budget restraints that some scenes were never filmed(EX: when Morris Chestnut jumps off the landing...we never see where he goes)...actors were reluctant to even fly to Germany...the director himself took a part due to shortage of fill -ins...and Cannon(I think that's how it's spelled ) even worked for free...
the movie was just meant to be entertaining fun....and not taken in any serious way due to the time it was made....nobody was into making a "dead serious" flick....though the original HPD written 10 years ago was pretty serious & graphic...due to the budget and current situation they went the other way....
All in all ......for a 1st time director ..I think he did a decent job.
