has steven studied chinese martial arts

I was just wondering if steven seagal has ever studied any chinese systems for example tai chi or kung fu. If you look at films like out for a kill or belly of the beast his fight scenes seem to incorporate chinese martial arts and he uses a lot of open hand blocking and striking

He has not studied anything other than Aikido, Karate, Kenjutsu/kendo and Judo!!! He did have some mat time with the Machado Bros Jiu Jitsu, but no extended training in that.

Please forgive me, but what is tai Chi Irimi nage? I know a technique that is called Irimi Nage that we use in Aikido but never heard of that from Tai Chi!!!!!!

He definately was familiar

I know he is familiar with several forms of Chinese styles. But I don't remember him claiming a rank. He just mentioned them in the course of teaching a class. (Crane and Tiger if I remember correctly.)

I remember asking him about Bruce Lee. (Lee had only been gone for about 4 years at that point.) He seemed to have respect for him. And I asked him if he'd ever make a movie. His reponse was, "If I do it won't be a Chinese 'chop'em up'." And he was right.

Yeah, I don't know what the extent of his training is, but in the final fight in Belly of the Beast, Seagal can clearly be seen using the piercing palm technique of the yin style of baguazhang. Very cool. In fact, the only other movie I know of that has bagua in it is The One, which I personally thought was a terrible movie. Do any of you know of any other movies that have any bagua (pa kua) in them?

Thanks
