I've done Aikido....and karate....and Jiu jitsu......and judo.

Unfortunately a lack of time and an injury ended my martial arts career.

Peace

I did karate for a number of years, graded up to blue belt, until one day I realised that I really didn't like hitting people. So, I switched to aikido. I did that for about two years, then moved to a new continent, where a lack of time, money, and a good teacher meant no martial arts for me!
However, I think I may now have found a good, traditional aikido dojo. I am going to my first class tonight... should be sore tomorrow!!

Hi,
I do aikido now for two years.
Before Aikido i was practising Taekwondo but I settled away and now I am an Aikidoka. Aikido is very interesting but it takes a long time to master it, it's very complex. But I have time:)

I started with aikido in the year 2002 trained untill last year.
Last year i started with Krav Maga it was great but it is not my style.
Now i start again with aikido.
I started with aikido because of Steven Seagal.
I saw his movies Nico and deadly revenge and was so impressed that i had to start learning this technics.
It is a long hard way to master all technics in a perfect way.

I've been doing aikido now for three and a half years and am at 3rd kyu (I'm a little behind because injuries - some not related to aikido - have kept me back).

TD, you are truly an inspiration to me! I have kept AWAY from the dojo because of non-aikido injuries, but have recently gone back... after a break of many years... and it feels great!
Luckily, I have found a small and sympathetic dojo where the Sensei is willing to work with / around my limitations. I know it will take me forever to get anywhere, but that's OK. I love a challenge!

The abilty to work alongside your sensei and create a harmony in which both of you understand that benefits and limitations of that harmony and then allow the training to flow from that partnership is one of the best things you could find. There are plenty of dojo's out there are are interested in the money and not the teaching!!

yes, and also plenty of dojos that are interested in self-aggrandizement and perpetuating the myth that only twenty-something males should be allowed to do martial arts.
Girls are only allowed as an indulgence. I went to a dojo like that in another Canadian city. It put me off going back for quite some time.
