Is seagal a true buddhist?

I have a friend who practices buddhism and he is very strict. he doesn't eat meat, smoke, drink or anything of that nature. I am not sure if this is part of the religious practices, or if he does this as his own personal choice. Anyway, in many of Seagal's movies, he violates these practices. In exit wounds, he ate a corned beef sandwhich. In Half Past Dead, he had a cigarette. Can anyone explain this?

I know several ordained buddhist PRIESTS, and they ALL eat meat, drink and some even smoke.

What do you mean by a real Buddhist?

There is Hinanaya/Theravada, Mahayana, and Vajrayana.
Steven practices Vajrayana. Maybe you should look up the differences.

I believe his is very much a buddhist, yes...As Jalu said in an earlier post, Vajrayna
is quite liberal in comparison to some schools, I think anyway...I personally don't know about the smoking thing either way, and drinking is even done by monks as I understand, as long as they do not get drunk, or are not doing something at the time that requires clear thinking as drinking impairs the mind...The corned beef could have been vegetarian "meat" it is quite common these days...Plus, what is done in the movies is just an illusion anyway, as long as your heart is pure, doing those things in the movies is probably ok, plus Steven said before that many important buddhists had encouraged him to continue doing his films as a way to show the evils of the world, to show that what the bad guys do is not what one should do...I believe he does these things to teach a lesson, to show the hard reality of life and that life is suffering if we give into these things...I believe that as long as he's not actually harming anyone, but passing on his good messages, then I don't think there anything wrong with how he makes his living...He's in a very powerful position to do something good, and I think he is using his power well, imo...I admire that about him very much...:)

I don't doubt that, Jalu...

Some people just don't do well without it...

People call him a liar all the time when they don't know jack....
People assume things about people when they don't know everything...
And you know what they say about assumptions...
Another thing is that everything changes...
So you can say something one minute and it might change the next, but I am certain he would never lie about his religion...
He's a very religious man, no doubt in my mind about that at all....

from what I heard a while back, he was a vegetarian. but, I do know that some people who call themselves vegetarians eat meat but very little. I know that with him being Buddhist he's very familiar with the foods of India. Anyone who knows about Indian food knows that there are a lot of vegetarian dishes.
