Last Seagal movie you watched?

Hey you, don't talk sh** about Against The Dark, I liked that film, bro!! lol the (cruel) way Seagal killed the zombie kid was awesome!!

But the movie needed more Seagal screen time, that's very true!

Maybe if I knew before I went into it that Seagal's role in it was a glorified cameo, then I wouldn't have such an aversion to the movie. Cause I figured he'd have a comparable level of screen time to "Attack Force." Obviously, he didn't. In fact, I was sort of expecting a sort of sequel to Attack Force, since Attack Force's ending is...humorously open ended. I think Attack Force is his best, "Seagal vs Supernatural/Weird." I guess my disappointment is magnified because, "Seagal vs Vampire-Zombies." How could you mess that up, right!? It's bound to be great! And they messed it up.

Edit: will give it a rewatch today to see if my opinion has changed.

So I rewatched Against The Dark, and I gotta say it just didn't do anything for me. If I were to rate it just as a random movie, I'd say that it's something you'd find on TV late at night, and sit through, and it would be passable. But the fact that they had Keith David and Steven Seagal to work with, and the two of them combined had only a handful of lines and maybe 30 minutes of screen time is just unacceptable. And the lines they did have were so generic.

Fair enough...expectations weren't delivered, a common denominator in many DTV Seagal movies.

I just watched it again last week and I do like it, but I feel like it was the weakest effort he'd made up to that point. I also felt it was a transitional film in his career and would not only set the feel for his films (filming in Eastern Europe, the producers he'd work with, etc.) but also how Seagal would look a large part of coming decade (a bit of weight gain, his hair most obviously).
I do like the movie though, it is very much a film of the era, a very 2002-2003 time capsule.

The extras are quite interesting, in the audio commentary the director tells all the difficulties with the tight budget of the film, etc worth a listen

What's important to me is that Seagal kicks ass, and gets a decent amount of screen time.

He does get a good amount of screentime and there's only a couple noticeable use of doubles. I still laugh at the scene with Ja Rule trying to teach him how to say "aiiiiiight".

Seagal was back after Exit Wounds. He proved he was still a draw and could get into shape for a role. Half Past Dead, while enjoyable for Seagal fans, leaves a sour taste in my mouth of what could have been had he continued the momentum of Exit Wounds.

He may have smoked a cigar or something in Absolution, at the opening. Or I'm just misremembering.

He did smoke a cigar in Absolution (that's what I was referring to earlier, that came to mind immediately) but of course, at 3am when I'm lying in bed it dawns on me that he also smoked in On Deadly Ground.

Okay, so I rewatched it, and you could definitely tell there were similarities to Exit Wounds and Today You Die. However, feeling like a combination of the two, I feel like it missed out on the strong points of both. It felt like Seagal's main mission (avenging his wife) was just sort of a side show. The whole plot with the stolen gold had rather little payoff (pun intended), and ultimately I think the movie would have been better had they taken the Today We Die route where Seagal is a criminal trying to go clean, and in the process leads the prisoners to retake the prison from the hostage takers. That being said, the action sequences were good, and Seagal gets a good amount of screen time. It was really just sort of plot and plot details that made it fall flat for me.

Edit: Also the production values were pretty decent.

IMO, it's one of, if not the, best of his DTV-era output. It went back to the early formula of these kinds of Action pictures with a simple pursuit (revenge) that leads him to taking down the dirty cops and mob and gang bangers that get in his way. Seagal does quite a few fights, and I liked how they had a build up to the last bad guy that Seagal must take down hand to hand.
