Hello everybody. I just returned a week ago from visiting the Ikazuchi Dojo in Southern California. Ikazuchi Dojo is one of Matsuoka Sensei's dojos that is run by one of his students...a gentleman named Josh Gold. The training over the weekend was just incredibly AWESOME. While I was there, Josh was putting the finishing touches on training DVD's that will feature Matsuoka Sensei's teachings. They will be filming 3 or 4 classes a month at the dojo and putting them on DVD for training purposes. I believe the first one is scheduled for release sometime this month. A new DVD will then be released each month. If anyone wants additional information, here is the link to the dojo.

Or email me at Carlos.Blanco@fmr.com and I will email you the PDF info that Josh Gold emailed me.

From 1989 to 1997, he was the Chief Instructor of Tenshin Dojo in Los Angeles. At the end of 1997, Matsuoka Sensei took his Aikido to another level by returning to Japan to teach and study under Shihan Seiseki Abe Sensei (10th Dan). Abe Sensei is one of O'Sensei's closest and highest ranking disciples. Matsuoka Sensei received his 5th Dan designation from Seiseki Abe Sensei.

In November 1999, he returned to Los Angeles to continue his mission of promoting Japanese culture including Aikido and Macrobiotics. Matsuoka Sensei is currently the Chief Instructor of Aikido Doshinokai Dojo in Culver City (Los Angeles) California, Ikazuchi Dojo in Irvine, California, and the University of California Irvine's Aikido Program. In 1982, Seagal Sensei opened a Dojo in Taos, New Mexico. In October 1983, he opened the Tenshin Dojo in Sherman Oaks, California. He brought his senior student Haruo Matsuoka from Japan to help him introduce not only Aikido, but the Japanese culture itself to California. Their teachings included Japanese calligraphy, tea ceremonies, and the healing arts in addition to traditional Aikido. This Dojo would later move to North Hollywood in January 1984, West Hollywood in February 1987 and to its final location in West Los Angeles in November 1992. The Tenshin Dojo closed in January 1998 due to Matsuoka Sensei's return to Japan. The Dojos in Taos and Osaka continue to operate with students of Seagal Sensei as the instructors.

FYI Mr. Matsuoka was featured in several Seagal films -
the guy in the intro sequence in Above the Law
the bottle guy in the store sequence in Above the Law
the guy in the store sequence in Hard to Kill

and probably a few other appearances I missed.

Also one of Seagal's students (an American) interviewed in "Path Beyond Thought" tape was playing the bad guy in a bar with gun in Above the Law and another store hooligan in Hard To Kill.
