My Copy of "The Foreigner"

I waited a day before writting my comments My copy of the film costed me approximately US$ 50 with the shipping and I am not sorry to spend this amount.

Seagal was very good in the film. But I wish he lost some weight (so do I) The story itself is not very efficient . Some scenes were not realistic. Dubois (Max Ryan) falling from the second floor of the hotel and not breaking any bones and neck was really a miracle...

I still vote for Exit Wounds and Half Past Dead

But I have to mention friends, Mr Seagal is preparing us and his viewers for films with less fighting.

Everything changes folks, so Steven's movies too, will be different as time goes on....Maybe some of you will consider them 'not as good' without so much fighting, but that is the path that they are taking...I am much impressed by the aikido, don't get me wrong....Still and always, I do appreciate his acting skills...And this will give him a chance to hone them...My father and I agree that he is a good actor, in spite of what others may think or say...I look forward to his work, and I take him very seriously...
So if the movies take on a more serious tone, that won't bother me in the least...:)

Hi Savadee,

This may be true, but what about his forthcoming remake of The Yakuza?I mean how could you make this film without lots of fighting?Granted,he will have to lose weight to pull off some flashy moves.I'm sure the only reason there is less fight scenes in his new films(I can't speak for Out For A Kill & BOTB)is because of his weight.I,as many others seem to agree, think he should lose weight.

The question, then,is this:Is Seagal happy with is current weight or is he having trouble losing it?Perhaps he is quite happy being the weight he is?After all he did lose weight for Exit Wounds and then within a few months went right back.

Any thoughts?

Peace,

Leon

Seagal told us that back in a '97 interview....that he wanted his upcoming movies to be a bit focused on a more serious role...
this was prior to the release of "The Patriot"...and we all saw how the lack of the un-armed fight scenes were in that...but we knew that was forthcoming...
Not really sure about what you mean when referring to "realistic" tho....I've fallen off a 2 story house without breaking anything...and I didn't think Seagal jumping over an oncoming car in EW is an everyday occurance ....nor jumping out of a helicopter to rescue a person in HPD......seems to me here in the US...falling off a 2 story house is more of a reality than those those two scenes...but I suppose it depends on our experiences and what we see as realistic....I find them entertaining tho...

It's more like a year....EW was filmed in fall of 2000(remember Ticker was prior to this...which is another oddity..because Seagal's filming schedules were always done in the Fall season..just prior to the upcoming Holiday season...Ticker was filmed in early 2000)...when he appeared on Jay Leno in mid March 2001..he still looked pretty much the same(6 months later) and even talked about it...what he weighed(225lbs for a 6'4 tall male),etc....
HPD & TF were filmed in fall of 2001.....so that's like a year after filming EW...

You are completely right John. Maybe I was not too clear with my words or meanings. But whent it comes to people that we like we want them to do good things.
I don't know too much about him as you all do, but do watched all of his films.
But I agree EW was not an every day occurance but I liked the film so I did not think about it.
By the way I am really happy that nothing has happened to you after a two storey fall so that we are able to communicate today.

Well, far be it from me to give a strict opinion, but I think from what I have seen, the main thing people need to remember when making these films is that Steven should never be made to look vunerable or weak in a movie role, he should always come out on top....The people like the larger than life image, the guy who can take it all and come back for more...I have heard Steven mention on intervierws that he knows people want mindless entertainment, not a lot they have to think about...And so, the guy who is smarter, tougher, faster, and sneakier, is the one who is going to gain all the respect...Even if he's a bad guy...I'm not neccesarily saying he has to do a lot of fighting either, I'm saying he has got to come out on top in the game, no matter what the game is...I thought that his shooting prowess in the foreigner was very impressive...In other words, he has got to be played up at every turn, just like in all the other films...And I think that ANY way this can be achieved, serious role, action role, or whatever, he has got to never lose or bow down to anyone, no matter how small the situation...My opinion is that this formula is the biggest way to draw the fans....It has been the main thing done in all the other sucessful movies that he has done...Sure we know that movies are just movies, and that real life is totally different, but I think that this is an important thing that would mean success for Seagal...Just my thoughts....No guarantees or insurance offered! :D

Lotus,
I couldn't have said it better!!!!!!!
I agree with your opinion that he MUST
always come out on top! He can show his
feelings (he's an actor) but he must be
THE WINNER, at the end of the movie, every time!!
God bless,

If Steven as a child saw 'an old man' performing what he thought were fantastic feats - and he was referring to a very famous old sensei then why shouldn't Steven continue to show us the very same fantastic feats - he has camera work and wires to help him if he really needs it. But with his knowledge of aikido, kendo etc he shouldn't need any help.
Sammo Hung has never looked exactly svelte but it hasn't stopped him from producing some very entertaining fight scenes. In fact it has been an advantage that he doesn't look as if he can defend himself!!!!

Hey Jackie Chan is about five years younger than Steven and he admits he had 7 stuntmen doing his stunts in his last film. He says he wont be doing any stunts by the time hes 50. Why would you if you dont have to? Not to mention that Steven is a good actor when he puts in the effort so maybe now is the time to gradually phase out the real big fight scenes(yes I know we enjoy them) and try something a bit different. He could still fight evil of course.
Luv & Peace
