I think she did in a way Tammy...Not saying she can't, but saying that it might hurt some people's feelings none the less I think we should respect the man, if she thinks "he has seen his better days" then why continue coming here? Obviously she liked him better before then she does right now, and that's her perogative, but saying things that are negative hurts people's esteem, what if he were reading this stuff? Oh, heh, ok just in case I need to leave a message....Steven I adore you, and I think you are simply wonderful! Now and always!

Ok here I am with my two cents....
Mariii & others have been on the message boards for some time-they ain't just someone new coming in here to cause trouble. It has been said many times that each person is intitled to their opinion-their view of people,on things..and that will cause conflict.But also shouldn't cause people to have to leave the board just because they expressed their opinion.

I agree Amos. I disagree about him retiring. I would love to see him lighter, if only not to feed his critics but he is still the highest ranked western aikido master i believe so he IS the best.
Marii and others are entitled to an opinion. It is mild compared to the old board what has been said. We all have our reasons for liking him. I like the way he carries himself. What man wouldn't like to have that kind of ability?
Anyway, lets all try to get along.

I do not agree with Mariii that Seagal should retire - there is plenty of life left in him yet! Look at Clint Eastwood or Sean Connery for example - they are still making cool action movies and Seagal is over 20 years younger than them! However, I must make a couple of points:
Seagal is an impressive on-screen martial artist, for sure, but then again, so is Van Damme, to the untrained eye. What you see on film and what happens in real life are two different things. Just like Van Damme telegraphs his kicks too obviously, in a street brawl, the thugs don't come at you one at a time and get beaten down one after the other like they do with Seagal - they come at you altogether.
As for the 7th Dan thing - that is meaningless in terms of skill level. When you attain the level of around 3rd or 4th Dan, you have learned pretty much all there is to know about the martial art itself and can be considered an 'expert'. Further 'Dan' increases are to do with your dedication to the discipline and the work you do in Aikido, for example, arranging seminars and competitions and training students to a high level. Many people around the world are ranked highly in Aikido - the sensei of the Aikido class in my local gym is ranked 4th Dan.

If I am not mistaken, Steven Seagal is trained in several other forms of martial arts as well as aikido, I think I read that someplace... Someone mentioned that he is teaching someone Kung Fu, anyway I think that was what I read on the board recently...I think that his knowing all different styles is pretty impressive...So even though there are several other 7th Dan ranked instructors out there, I doubt they are skilled in as many different arts as he is...I could be wrong though...I don't know anything about martial arts except what I have managed to learn from the old board...

Lotus, there are many martial artists of high Rank that are skilled in other arts as well as Aikido, Seagal Shihan is one of the many.
I really do not think he is the "best" martial artist, I don't think anyone is, or we all would be studying that martial art. I do think Aikido was "best" for him though.
Don't forget there are many that have been studing Aikido longer than Seagal, with same and higher rank, but we have not seen or heard of them due to them not being "stars".
I know of one westerner ranked 8th Dan and also held rank in Kung Fu
I like his movies, hell, I like most movies!! I even enjoyed Ticker!!

There really isn't anyone who is "the best" martial artist; because when one becomes well-trained, has studied hard and earnestly, has trained others well, that person is still a "student". The more one "knows" the humbler one becomes.
Steven IS an excellent martial artist, as well as a Human Being.
Steven makes good films, some not so good, some better than most ... but no way does he need to retire ... to borrow a saying "Life is Good until the last drop!" Life is change. Life is a circle. Each circum can be "better" until one finally settles into the Center, into the Silence, into the Source ...
Now and Zen someone comes along and catches our attention ... ain't life grand?

There really isn't anyone who is "the best" martial artist; because when one becomes well-trained, has studied hard and earnestly, has trained others well, that person is still a "student". The more one "knows" the humbler one becomes.

Hello Everyone
This has all been very interesting reading. I think the point is that we all like or love or adore or worship Steven for totally different reasons. Some like the man himself, some like the screen idol, others the personality. Some like him for his life views, others for his tough yet quiet persona, some came to him through their like of the martial arts. The fact that there are male & female fans here of all ages and from all parts of the world proves that Steven has universal appeal. We are here because we like(in the mildest form) & worship(in the extreme form) Steven. If we all shared exactly the same views what point would there be to conversing the way we do. Unless someone is especially rude or discourteous to others why make a mountain out of a molehill? Appreciate and respect each other and the opinions that are expressed.Its healthy & fun to get the blood up but its not life and death. Lets keep our priorities straight & please please let us keep our sense of humour. We are as similar as we are different, remenber that.

Ah Mariii, I guess when you said he should retire we felt a little hurt, because we want to see him thrive, we want the best for him, we have feelings for this man, all different feelings, but most of all I think we all respect him...So if we just keep that in mind things will be fine...We respect everyone's opinion, but we are here for Steven, to honor him in the ways we see fit, all in our own ways...So to me if something can be considered hurtful to him, it hurts me as well, I am just being honest...I guess that was your intention as well, but you must have known how some of us worshippers would react...Please let's all just try to get along....
