Great pics, Littledragon!

Many of them are on his official site. He's training again, too! That's good. You know, I don't think Steven Seagal does too much training (not for his DTVs at least). I know he did some training for Exit Wounds (but probably because Joel Silver made him in order for Seagal to get his final paycheck).

Kumite looks like it will be a REAL comeback film for VanDamme!
I've seen most of those (not the Santa Monica ones), but thanks, Littledragon for the pics!

Just starting to film now?

And the ads for it are already up! Wow!
Will it be filmed all in one place?

No. Originally it was going to be shot in the United States and Asia. Now the script has been totally changed, and it is going to be filmed in Vancouver I think. Either that or Toronto. The rest will be filmed overseas. (according to an old Van Damme Forums interview)

I've heard about Vancouver...

Vancouver remains the number 1 spot for movie making in Canada, but Toronto is catching up very quickly. Especially since a huge professional studio is being built here. I'd love for Kumite to be at least partly filmed in Toronto. Canada is such a great place for film making!

Thanks Res.Dog for that. I hear nothing but good things about Kumite and Van Damme's work lately. He's sure rebounded very well after that Rodman fiasco. :D

That movie was actually decent. Okay the acting was bad and the dialouge was choppy but I liked the whole idea of an island filled with intelligence officials who cannot escape. The whole escape scene was cool. They could have toned up the fighting though. It was more of an action movie than martial arts.

Van Damme never films any fight scenes in the U.S. because he is scared of a lawsuit. Just a cool fact for you.

What lawsuits would he be afraid of?

Was Van Damme arrested and charged with an assault in the U.S.?

Res.Dog. I didn't like Double Team (the title reminded me of Double Impact, so that's why I thought it would be a good film, and then I watched it...) I also didn't like his "Knock Off" ... it had the same style of Double Team... None of Van Damme's late movies were martial arts type movies. They had some martial arts but it was mostly based on some cheap storyline with bad explosions.

It was in Martial Magazine Interview that he never films any of his fight scenes in the U.S. because he is afraid of a law suit..

I dunno. I remember reading in the newsletter that he wanted it to be authentic so they would film in the U.S. because the audience would know if it was just a movie set and they were pretending to be in the U.S. However, if you read the synopsis, the fighting doesn't take place in the U.S. anyway, so they were probably planning on films that only had to do with the storyline.

But even if that is so he never films any of his fight scenes in the U.S.

Littledragon, check the second party of the Kumite interview with Van Damme. There is even quote that Van Damme says the American audiences will see the difference and they will shoot the scenes in the USA!

You still haven't explained why!

I didn't ask where info came from... Why would he be afraid of a law suit? What kind of law suit? What for? There are tonnes of filmmakers filming fight scenes in the States, so why not Van Damme? What makes him so unique?

I don't know the answer all I know is that in the 2003 Martial Magazine issue I have Van Damme says that, it came from his own mouth..

Well Van Damme is the one that said in the interview he doesn't do fight scenes in the U.S. but maybe he changed his mind, I don't know I ain't him. ;)

Then that means no more law suits for Van Damme...

So if he had previous trouble, he's all in the clear now ... maybe that could be the reason why he's showing so much improvement lately...

I was never aware of any lawsuits upon him, I only knew he ot arrested one time for drinking and driving I think in '98.
