We all love the guy whatever weight he is, but I was wondering, how many people would prefer to see him lean n' mean again like he was back in the Above the Law days?

Or do you think he carries his weight well, and looks better now?

And how much do you think he weighs by the way? Considering he's 6ft4, I'd say at least 250lbs.

I think he looks better with a little more meat on his bones...:D Fact is, he is a big man, and he can carry it well...I thought Nico was waaay too skinny, personally...I think right now he weighs at least 250lbs, maybe more, don't know...But I think he is simply wonderful! If he wanted to lose weight then I would wish him well, I think people should be comfortable and content with their weight, I am not, and I know mine bothers me, and so I hope his doesn't bother him....He is just fine, and he definately doesn't need to look as skinny as Nico at all...More of him to love, heh...:D ;) :D

I totally agree, he should be happy with himself whatever he looks like. But my only worry is that people will really stop taking him seriously as an action hero if he keeps piling on weight. He lost some for Exit Wounds (which was a hit), but then it seems to have come back on again. Even though I'm a big fan, even I can see it limits his movement and makes for action scenes that just aren't the same standard as the vintage stuff (e.g. Marked for Death, Out for Justice, ABTL). The heavier he is, the less quick and mobile he is, that's just a fact of life. So personally, I'd really like to see him lose a bit. But again, he should be happy whatever he does.:)

I agree, being heavy does make moving harder, I do know that feeling...If it is for health reasons or practical/career reasons and if he feels he needs or wants to lose weight, then I say that's fine...Nothing like that would ever change my feelings for him though...Everyone and everything changes, that's just a fact of life too, people can't expect him to always stay the same, it's just not gonna happen...However he is the same man on the inside, and that's what I think matters the most...Maybe the average fan doesn't agree, ok fine...

I tend to agree with both of your points, but I do think it would be better(at least for his action scenes/martial arts moves)if he did lose some weight.

I look at it this way. At the age of 52 he is going to slow down anyway. Jackie Chan who is 48 I think, is already using stunt doubles to do a lot of the fighting he used to do. Steven can carry a bit of weight because he is so tall. If he is happy & comfortable with his weight then good luck to him & for purely selfish reasons I would love to be wrapped up in him.;)
Luv & Peace

I have the same concern for him that I would have for anyone
that has put on any weight. Fat gathering around the heart is a
major concern.
When he did "Exit Wounds" he weighed 220 pounds and he looked so good! I also think he felt good at that weight or at least he acted that way. But we also have to remember that he is very tall...6'4" and has a large frame so he can carry more weight than one might think. If I am not mistaken, when he filmed "Glimmer Man", he weighed 240-250 lbs. and it didn't seem to slow him down at all! (A lot of his "speed" is in his hands and arms, that is not to say that he doesn't have to maintain his full body speed!)
After seeing him in HPD, I don't think he's "slowed down" at all!
Yes, I believe he did use "a double" but those "fights" were pure Seagal and, as usual, he was great, of course!!!
Just my opnion!
God bless,

Oh yes, he was totally yummy in the Glimmer Man...;)
He is a big burly man, all the better to hug me with! HEH :D Mandy is right, let him keep me warm in the winter! Oh, Steven baby! :D ;) :D But if he wants to lose weight is for good/better health then I say ok...I want him to be healthy and happy, and however he can acheive that I wish him complete success! I think he should do it only if he WANTS or needs to! I LUV that man no matter what!

Well-first I would like to say that someones weight is their own affair.I know a lot has said that like in Seagals case it does affect others-for instance his career.
He did manage to lose weight for Exit Wounds, but he did mention wanting to gain weight for the Genghis Khan role,so maybe just maybe he will try to lose weight after, but as you get older it gets even more harder to do so (as I hear)

And being heavy isn't good for ones health.

Seagal was, in my opinion, too thin in Above The Law and was possibly in the best shape of his career in Marked For Death. Around the time of Under Siege 2 with the break-up of his marriage and subsequent vicious rumours regarding the allegations of assaulting Kelly LeBrock, he became depressed and noticeably gained a lot of weight partly because of this. He has never looked massively overweight, but he was very out of shape in The Glimmer Man, despite the fact that he very obviously wore flamboyantly tailored jackets in a vain attempt to hide his paunch and the only reason why he didn't look as if he had slowed down in that movie was because the due to the fight scenes being sped-up and the usage of quick cut techniques. In Fire Down Below, he was still out of shape, but carried the excess weight a lot better and didn't look as old or as tired as he did in Glimmer Man. However, the quick cuts and sped-up fight sequences continued throughout this entire film and looked a bit lame to say the least. He had lost a lot of weight for The Patriot, but there were no fight sequences to speak of. He looked overwight again for Ticker and the fight sequences were pretty poor once more (I think everyone, even his staunchest admirers will admit that they were filmed too close, were too dark and a stunt double was very probably used). However, he looked leaner and meaner for Exit Wounds and the fight sequences improved greatly, although some of them still look sped-up. Personally, I think he carries the excess weight well, but he would be taken more seriously as an action star if he lost weight. Look at Pierce Brosnan for example - he is the same age as Seagal and is probably in better shape than most guys half his age. Surely there are enough personal trainers in Hollywood to go around?!

Glimmer,
I think comparing him to Peirce Brosnan is no good because for one, Sensei is much taller...If he wants a personal trainer he could get one, for sure...I think though that as an actor he probably knows exactly how to go about a weight loss regime if needed...There are tricks of the trade, for taking off the pounds I'm sure...He must have had to do something effective for Exit Wounds if he had trimmed down a lot, as you say...I think he needs to do whatever HE feels he needs to do, that is only if wants to (for health reasons or whatever) if some people don't like his weight, oh well...He does not look old, he looks fine to me! :D He is the age he is, age is a number...If he can deal with it who cares? I think he's sexxxy! :D He might be tired, anyone would be too if they worked as hard as he does...Traveling all the time isn't easy, jet lag, and whatever his life entails, is probably really tough, and I am sure his job is very stressful, and demanding...You're right, depression (in combination with other things)does cause a lot of things like weight gain too, I know, because it has happened to me...

Be your self...
He really looked good :) in The Patriot.......but as long his health is fine......i really dont care
we all have our ind. choices...

Lotus - I compared Seagal to Brosnan because they are similar ages - height has nothing to do with whether or not you are able to maintain a good level of physical fitness. Brosnan is the same age as Seagal and is in the kind of shape that Seagal was in during his 'Above The Law' days. Most actors these days use personal trainers not only for designing fitness and diet programmes, but for motivational purposes also. Just because Seagal is an actor doesn't necessarily mean that he is a nutritional or a fitness expert. You are correct - there are tricks of the trade for taking off the pounds - a good make-up artist, a decent tailor and some clever lighting is usually all that is required. Forget all this sh*te about eating celery because you use more energy chewing it than it provides you with - the only way of losing weight effectively is to exercise regularly and eat healthy food. I think that he should do whatever he wants to do also, but the fact remains that he would be taken more seriously as an action star if he lost the weight and started making good old fashioned cop thrillers once more.

i think he was really thin in his first movie, above the law. it was kinda funny because his body was skinny, he had long skinny legs, a thin neck, and his head looked too big for the rest of his body. maybe that's just the way i saw him. but of course, he was still cool. the reason he was so thin back then was because he just got back from living in Japan and training all of the time and he was in his 30s. now, he's over 50 and he doesn't have to train all of the time. he spends a lot of time doing religious studies and training other people and traveling to other places to meet other people. even if he's a vegetarian he's going to put on weight because his metabolism has slowed down so much and he's not as active as he used to be. i know he's still healthy because of his martial arts and Buddhism lifestyle. gaining weight on the outside is a lot different from the fatty deposits on the inside of your body in the blood vessels. i'm sure his saturated fat and cholesterol level is a lot lower than mine, and i'm 23 years old, 6'0" tall, and 145 lbs! i eat whatever i want most of the time and i have a history of bad health of all kinds in my family. i really need to get active and change my diet a little bit. food is one of my biggest weaknesses despite my appearence...i have the same body type as Nico. when i was 12 years old, i was diagnosed with a high cholesterol level that was almost in the danger zone. every year i go to the doctor and get checked for my various levels of health, and it's been alright. but, in recent months, i'll admit, I've been eating everything in sight. lol. i'm currently stuck on italian foods. going back to Mr. Seagal, all he has to do is do some running exercises, the same way he got ready for the movie Exit Wounds. if he does this only 3 times a week (monday, wednesday, and friday), and pushes himself to the point that he sweats a lot which is a good sign of using up a large amout of fat, he will keep the weight off and he will train his metabolism to maintain a certain level. my doctor told me this when i was 12 years old. when you do cardio exercise and you sweat a lot you will be forcing cholesterol and saturated fat out of your body. that's the best way for anyone to lose weight. i guess the man's schedule is so busy he can't find time to do these things. maybe he should cut back on his meditation sessions. he has to sit still for that, and that's not helping his basic physical needs. his mental health, spiritual health, and his more internal physical needs are met very well with meditation. but we can't neglect other things. if he can remain at the same weight he was in Exit Wounds, that will be just right considering his age and his height. if he loses some more with the new routine I have suggested, that would be even better. but, no i don't think he's fat or obese. he's "pudgy", yes, but he's also tall. he's still not as big as Micheal Clark Duncan. my mom says he's a handsome man with a twinkle in his eye, and that he puts on most of his weight around the midsection. situps can help that. we also have to remember that aikido isn't very forceful and physical, unlike karate and kung-fu. so the techniques in aikido aren't going to make you maintain a constant weight level. you need to do other things outside of the techniques.

lossing weight

He should lose some. If he didn't have to travel so much it would be easier. Best way for people who have a pool is to swim with flippers. When I go through a warm area and have time to swim, morning laps with swim fins burns the fat fast and trims the tummy too.
