Question:- Does Anyone Know If Seagal Has Lost Weight For His New Films?

Having seen bits of "Half Past Dead" and a region one copy of "The Foreigner", I've noticed that Seagal has put the weight back on. I was wondering if anyone knows whether he has lost any for his upcoming movies "Out For A Kill" & "Belly Of The Beast". I don't mind the guy's weight per se as he carries it reasonably well but I don't like it when it affects his fighting ability. In his recent films I have mentioned (including "Ticker") either a stunt double is used or crappy editing tricks are used which just sometimes defeat the purpose of watching his movies. The main reason I like Seagal is because of his awesome street fighting style which is fast and to the point (and also very brutal might I add!) and I wish that filmakers would exploit this and just let him do his stuff naturally without using gimmicks to make him look like Keanu Reeves.

At the end of the day, his excess weight only gives his detractors something more to ridicule and is little wonder he is not taken seriously as an action hero anymore when directors have to speed up his scenes or film themclose up or worse again -: use a stunt double! Stunt doubles are OK for really dangerous stuff like high jumps or car chase scenes but to double in fight scenes for an actor who is an expert anyway! I don't think so.

Anyway has anyone seen any pictures from his new films to see if he has lost any weight?

Peace

Well I heard that he was planning on gaining weight for the Genghis Khan role,so I doubt he would lose any before hand.

After botb and ofak he is doing the yakuza and its a warner brothers film so they may ask him to lose weight like they did in exit wounds.

MMCK - I agree totally. When I watched the credits of Half Past Dead (that pointless dialogue at the end between Ja Rule and his wife made me stick around) I think I counted around 4 different Seagal doubles. In his earlier films I don't think there was even one! To be brutally honest, either Seagal has got an awesome sense of humour to make a movie called Belly Of The Beast, or he has no sense of irony whatsoever! I can just imagine some of the stuff his critics will print...

Your absolutly right Glimmerman. I too have wondered why Seagal would even bother to make a movie called "Belly of The Beast" considering how much his critics shout their mouths off about his gut. As you said the guy must have a pretty intense sense of humour!

You also mention he has 4 stunt doubles in "Half Past Dead", well that in itself speaks volumes. If he's not careful he's going to end up like Roger Moore in the latter day Bond films, who had to use stunt doubles for any sort of physical exertion (like getting out of a chair!). Although to be fair to Roger, it was more to do with his age rather than being fat.

All I wish for, fat or not, is that the film makers go back to basics with his fight scenes. I still think he is still fast enough as I saw in the "Making Of Exit Wounds" DVD documentary where he was preparing for the fight with the car-jackers he is still quite light on his feet, as being a documentary, they showed the sequence in one take without editing and they also showed him on wires doing the hand stand kick.

I still think he's got what it takes.

:)

Sorry to be picky but don't you mean Kurrupt and his wife?

I agree with Justice! Also, bouncing around from one weight to the other doesn't sound too healthy either...If they want him to lose weight for one role, and then gain weight for another, it might not be so easy to do...I like him the way he is...And for a lot more reasons than his looks...:)
