I just wanted to make this thread to discuss Seagal's future in movies.

It's sad but is has been a long time since he made or even announced a new movie. You guys think he stopped making movies? I don't know I just have the feeling he doesn't want this anymore.

Can't really blame him to be honest as it must feel like deja-vu too for him every time he goes to make a new movie as same role, action, shoot outs.

Said many times in past, i would rather one decent movie every year or two that he puts in a good amount of effort compared with 4-5 movies that he is hardly taking part in. He is probably fed up too as we have seen in quite a few interviews in the past where it seems he would rather be doing other things than shooting movies and doing promotion.

Think the allegations definitely didn't help, even though nothing proved it certainly has tarnished his name.

If that is his movie career done he can be proud/pleased of the first 10 years, rest in my opinion were mostly a waste with the exception of a few movies. I am disappointed with how his career went, especially as we have not really seen the type of martial arts Seagal displayed in his earlier films elsewhere.

It does seem he's slowed down, for sure, but considering the budgets get smaller and the films mostly turn out pretty poor, he's probably fed up. I mean, he's at the age where most people retire. His agent clearly doesn't have any good offers coming in for him. There is only one chance Seagal will get on the big screen again in a big budget film and get his name put out there again to the masses and that would be Expendables 4, but he won't do it. Such a shame.

I don't know. We have seen a pauze before a couple of years ago and he came back. Maybe he just wants a breather.
I doubt Seagal has accumulated enough wealth to retire comfortly.

And @theeverlasting, I think there are more chances he can get on the big screen again with other big budget films.
Perhaps not as the main star, but a bad guy or 'sidekick' to the main star. (some role like in Executive Decision (but the a bit more extended please) of Machete). Or start with a few guest appearances on TV-shows.

It will take a tremendous effort on his part to chase after a good role. He needs to drop his ego and demands, make some effort in shaping up a bit and such.

And if he has retired, I don't think the movie industry/audience will shed a tear at this point.

He certainly has to drop his ego. He taking himself very serious. And I know his demands on set are very high. He just needs to step out of that and be in Expendables 4 or just accept another role in a big movie. He could be a bad guy in a John Wick movie or Fast & Furious. That would be cool.
But don't forget that he distanced himself from Hollywood. So I think it's never going to happen.

I said the exact same thing in May (on 'The Single Man' thread)

I doubt we'll see any more releases from Steven this year (if at all?)
Personally, I think he's done with headlining films nowadays? The budgets seem to getting lower and lower (plus I don't think neither he, or Steamroller have the time or inclination to secure funding anymore?) Nowadays he seems more content to attend seminars and partake in Russian envoy duties (which are probably in all likelihood, more profitable for him?)

At very least during the mid 2000's, you could keep tally of his DTV sales....primarily because they existed on physical media and sold in accordance to charts.
Downloading/streaming has really put a nasty dent in the DTV market (and the 365Flix 'fiasco' didn't help matters either) leading to his last few releases being stuck in distribution limbo (China Salesman, Attrition, etc) and it's unlikely that General Commander will buck this trend (largely due to the fact that it's not exactly a masterpiece, and at best, cobbled together from an aborted TV show)

Half the general public probably assume he's either retired (or dead) and the other half have likely gave up on him (due to more than a few duff releases) leaving it solely to the die-hard fans to prop up his career (and sadly, I don't there's enough of us to warrant or even co- fund the future of these movies anymore...however low the budgets?)

Just a shame he's only accepting supporting roles in low-budget stuff, instead of looking towards more mainstream releases....he could easily see out his career as a big boss type in some Fast & Furious / Expendable style movie (or something similar?) :(

The problem (as always) is Seagal.

(not trying to be negative, just realistic)

I would like to see him in a television series with a recurring character such as Christopher Lambert as Marcel Janvier in NCIS: Los Angeles is only six chapters but I think it would help him get new fans.

He has tried television with the likes of General Commander, True Justice and Lawman. None were a success. Maybe the first season of Lawman did quite well, but i think that was mainly as people were curious and it got quite a bit of promotion from A&E.

Those were all shows where he was the 'main' character (although not much screentime or screentime filled with him sitting down talking). If he would do something like NCIS, criminal minds, or whatever primetime show (perhaps a cameo like Lou Ferrigno on The King Of Queens) it would give him a boost and an opportunity to show of different kind of characters and perhaps some comedy. This could increase an intrest for bigger/better productions.

I think seagal's comeback might never happen.
He had his chance with machete.
It did nothing to his career

Machete did nothing for anybody's career who was in that movie. It was a fun movie, but none of the stars (Don Johnson, Jeff Fahey, Lindsay Lohan, Seagal, Jessica Alba, and so on) has had a career revival due to this movie. So to say Machete was a chance is, in my opinion, highly overrated.

Actually the premiere of Lawman was the highest rated show that night....
you can watch Season 1 & 2 here fore free(don't even have to sign in)
https://tubitv.com/series/3684/steven_seagal_lawman?utm_source=google-feed&tracking=google-feed
and I posted Season 3(Arizona) here(which was never reased on DVD)
https://www.dailymotion.com/john-lucas4
---
Seagal went from having the number one show to TV completely rejecting his series (General Commander)
Lawman A&E(Louisiana) was successful enough for a second season to be made....
but the second season ended in a lawsuit after only 8 episodes
However season 3 REELZ was made but also ended with a lawsuit
---
True Justice was only picked up for TV in Spain(I think)
and had to be release in DVD movie format for anyone to see
season 2 didn't even have a conclusion(not as far as I saw)
not sure but True Justice may have been made before Lawman
---
General Commander was all around rejected
--
So I'd say Seagal's TV series days are over...
as far as co-starring....he'd never do it.
---
Under Siege 3......yeah Seagal sitting behind a desk and having his 'team'
do all the work and he's show up at the end to take out the main villian(we've seen that a million times already)
---
I wonder who actually talks him into all these failed investments, the Wine, the restuarants(we had one here in Chicago...was way over priced for and average sandwich), the 'Power Bars, the Lightning Volt drinks, Music DVD(never even appeared)etc.
Even having a cameos in his own movie...
--
as far as comeback.....yeah...it was called 'Exit Wounds'...then followed up by the PG 'Half Past Dead' flm
....how many comebacks does one get?

What I mean is that seagal has already been as the villain in a critically and commercially successful movie but he went straight to DVD once the movie was finished.
Most people here says he should take a smaller role as a villain but he actually did that nine years ago and nothing changed.
The fact that the film did nothing to some of the actors involved is beside the point. We can't blame the movie here. Maybe Hollywood is done with them or there is no audience for them. It happened to many actors before.

He just really needs to take a few smaller roles as a supporting actor, like he did brilliantly in Executive Decision. It would open doors for him and get people talking about him again, instead of wasting his times filming for 2/3 on awfully low budget films that a dozen people will see. Stallone has contacted him several times over the years to be in the Expendables movies but he just won't do it because he's too stubborn and doesn't like the producer Avi Lerner, but all they have to do is make sure they're kept apart while Seagal films his stuff, then he can be on his way knowing he's gonna appear in a big film, get a good payday and have people saying his name again.... ah well, maybe in another life time! ha!
