Seagal had enough of kicking cinema

On Polish movie site Steven says that he is disapointed that the producers see in him only fighting star not a movie star. He's saying about plans of filming Gengis Khan and that he wanted to play Will Adams – XV- century british lord who where send to search gold.

I'm agree the producers always want him to kick ass nothing else.

Vin Diesel prove in Sidney Lumet FIND ME GUILTY that he can play not only with muscles.

I think Seagal prove his acting skills in THE GLIMMERMAN and HARD TO KILL but the porducers saw only bone braking and a lots of blood...on there eyes.

slawek,
i have to agree with your conclusions about these past and recent film producers' unprofessional attitudes towards Steven Seagal's theatrical capabilities and track record on both DVD and big screen
Steven Seagal should use his own Steamroller production company and use it to finance his own movie creations as he's done with his old films like "On Deadly Ground" and many more
This way, Seagal controls the dialog, script, storyline, productions, directing, acting, everything
Seagal may have to resort to his own financial backings with what he earns from his marketing products from Steamroller, music sales from his compact discs, and whatever mysterious free-lance jobs he has with wealthy employers around the world ?

He's having a giraffe isn't he? Who the hell wants to watch a movie about a British Lord searching for gold. If he's complaining about being typecast as an action movie star, it doesn't exactly help matters that in every one of his 25+ movies, he has played a retired CIA agent who is a martial arts expert. Seagal tried to move into movies with less action and more drama (The Patriot) and since his career has nosedived into B movie territory, it's doubtful that he could ever play anything other than an action star unless he has a serious change in his fortunes.

Don - with regards to On Deadly Ground, I believe it was a mistake to give Seagal so much free reign in that movie. Although the fight sequences were pretty cool, the fact remains that the movie was basically two hours of Seagal doing nothing more than showing us how brilliant he was (or, at least, how brilliant he thought he was). The way he hogged the limelight in that movie was rather arrogant, especially when you consider that he worked with possibly his most famous and well known co-star (Michael Caine).

Seagal tried and failed to move into movies with less action and more drama (The Patriot) and since his career has now nosedived into B movie territory (and, for some of his recent efforts, calling them 'B' movies is being kind, as they're more like 'Z' movies), it's doubtful that he could ever play anything other than an action star unless he has a serious change in his fortunes.

What Seagal needs is a good director who will take no crap. The only way Seagal is going to get back on top of his game in anything other than the eyes of a few hubristically blind to the obvious fans on this website is if he bites the bullet, quits 'starring' in the utter garbage he has been churning out every 90 odd days and goes back to square one with a decent script, a decent director and puts in 100% (ie - acts like he gives a toss and actually says his lines properly). Harsh? No, not really.

Its crazy. If Seagal don't play in an action-movie it will be bad for his career... Whats his problem? I don't get it...

ACTION, A GOOD DIRECTOR AND STEVEN WITH A BIT MORE ENTHUSIASM and his problem is solved. Im looking really forward to OUATITH, good Actors, an OK director and a Halpin story...

I'd watch it. I mean, I watched Attack Force. After the last few Seagal movies I've seen, I'd be happy just to see something that he cared enough to do his own ADR for. I say let him make a movie that he wants to make, even if it's kind of crap. It can't be much worse than what he's been doing lately, and it might get him excited about making movies again. It could lead to him doing a decent action movie again. Maybe.

Then again, if Seagal makes a movie about 15th Century British Lord searching for gold, the distributor will probably just re-write/re-edit/re-dub it into the story of an ex-CIA martial arts expert who has to find a nuclear bomb at a Renaissance Faire.

But then again, I don't think he could ever do any worse than
"Attack Force". Maybe something different is just what he needs.
I don't know.
God bless,

I still think if Steven wants to reinvent himself, he should do it through guest roles on long-running TV shows, where he can play anything BUT an action-movie guy.

I think it would be ironic if he appeared as a witness or an expert (not in martial arts), for example, in a Law & Order episode (after that oh-so-blatantly obvious send-up they did of him on the show a couple of seasons ago, it would be a good turn-about-is-fair-play on them).

A defendant on Boston Legal (Shatner & Seagal both sending themselves up on one show - it would cause a melt-down on the tube!); playing himself on The Simpsons, doing everything BUT aikido (sort of the like the Mountain Dew commercial); any one of the CSIs, maybe a guest spot on Jericho (is that still running or have they cancelled it)?

Maybe even - gasp! - Desperate Housewives.

He doesn't have to reinvent himself just in the movies, if that's what he really wants to do (reinvent himself, that is). The trouble is, on a TV show set, he'd have to behave, and that's really what's holding him back. He lacks professionalism and courtesy on the set, and no one wants anything to do with him, as a result.

Boy it sounds mighty interesting hearing all of the suppositions with Seagal's career in film
A trip to an American children's program with Steven as a guest or maybe having Seagal portraying a motorcycle gang member, but all along he's really a secret agent working undercover to bust up the motor cycle leader's operations ?

Could see Steven Seagal playing the 19Th century Lakota "Crazy Horse" or Nez Perce "Chief Joseph"
But i could not see Seagal exclaiming in a movie line, "i will fight no more forever"
