Seagal's Persona Now.

Littledragon

Above The Law
I was just watching a recent SNL episode that was re running today and it had Jennifer Aniston as a paparazzi taking pictures of celebrities and talking about all the gossip inlcuding one portraying to be her and Jennifer making jokes and comments about the SNL actor of Aniston. Then they say hey Kristey Alley and started talking pictures then sighed and said oh thats just Steven Seagal, a guy in a poney tail in a chinese jacket.

The point is the perception of Seagal to the public is almost a jock and mockery. I hate to see my hero portrayed this way. The cartoons and MAD TV is different but this one I just saw as well as the diss to Seagl on the Colbert report, people are really mocking him because he is overweight. It seems now people forget that he is one of the best martial artists and action stars in the world but people rather give him a persona as an fat washed up action star. It is sad, just wanted you guys to know about this latest SNL episode making fun of Seagal.

This is Kristy Alley the overweight celebrity.

Stuff on a recent episode of Conan too...

Late Night with Conan O' Brien that is. The episode that aired a few nights ago with Halle Berry as the main quest had CNN reporter Anderson Cooper on too. He told about his visit to New Orleans and all the celebrities that swarmed the disaster stricken city.
One day Cooper saw a police car arrive and Steven Seagal stepping out dressed as a police officer. Cooper went to interview Mr. Seagal, but he reclined and told him that he was there "just to do his thing and helping people." OK, nothing wrong there. Cooper wondered why on earth was Seagal dressed as a cop, but apparently our beloved thespian is actually given some kind of authorities in law enforcement in New Orleans(?) - at least I remember reading something like that a long time ago. Anywho, Cooper then learned from another N.O. police officer that a couple of years back, Seagal had appeared non invited to a local bar, a cop hang out, and put a framed picture of himself on the wall. After Seagal left the bar, two officers pulled out their guns and shot the picture down.
I'm just affraid that stories like this and Seagal's somewhat peculiar publicity appearances make him look like a major league weirdo in the eye of the big public. By those peculiar appearances I mean Steven's way of switching these roles he uses in interviews and such; back when Above The Law premiered he didn't actually disengourage the rumours about him being an ex CIA - agent. Like Nico. When Out For Justice came out, he made his TV-interviews in broad Brooklyn accent in a lavish "paisano" - style. Now he displays the image of a "detroit blues cat" with "man" as one of the most frequent words in interviews.
All this added to the, say, very original style in clothing and a alternative physical shape for an action man, I'm sad to say, that the yellow press/comedy writers/talk show hosts have plenty of material to fabricate jokes about him.
I understand he's a man with great creativity in him and he certainly is a considerable humanitarian. It's irritating that these things are overlooked because of the public image Seagal has been labeled with and, sad to say, maybe helped to create in some occasions.

Yes, and his weight has nothing to do with his martial arts ability. No one made fun of Sammo Hung, and he was much bigger. Personally, I think America is too obsessed with skinniness, and that Seagal actually looks better with the weight on him.

He is certainly full of himself though. There is also a story of a film producer walking into Seagal's trailer. He finds Seagal crying. Seagal says that he's just read the most beautiful script he's ever seen. The producer asks Seagal who wrote it, and Seagal, sobbing, says "I did."

Ha,ha,ha...I can´t believe what I read. This is jerk´s yellow or pink press more than smart opinions.

Seagal is a peculiar weird persona, and a lot of people envy him, because they would like to be, to have and to get the succes that Seagal has.

That´s all.Pure envy

Ah!!!And Seagal was in New Orleans invited from the policeman boss. There´s a lot of information in Internet.

Yeah, the weight has nothing to do with his skills, RIGHT.

But has a lot to do to his SUCCESS at the big screen.

And yes at all, America is tooooooooo obsessed with the perfect body and all that ****.

And it´s a very dangerous virus that kind of culture.

OK, thanks for that info latinojazz - like I said, I kind of remembered reading something about his connections with NOPD. It was in the infamous Penthouse article about ten years ago and apparently Seagal can take part in raids and such, but has no authority to make actual arrests. So if the local police forces need his help or whatever, that's just fine by me. The point Anderson Cooper was making in the Late Night is that it just seemed a bit surreal to see an actor - and especially Seagal - appearing to the scene of disaster dressed as a cop upholding law and order.

And as for the envy, yeah you're propably right. There is always negative feelings for those who have made it in the business and especially those who have as flamboyant persona as Seagal. I'm not arguing there at all.
Of course I don't believe that the envy is the fuel behind all the jokes on SNL, MadTV and Conan O'Brien - Seagal just makes an easy target with his style. And I think that this was the initial idea for this post to begin with, that it's stupid how one dimensional people can be when it comes to superficial issues because we all at the forum know, that Seagal would definetily deserve better treatment in the media.

That is all tabloid propaganda, I doubt it is true at all. That is how the press sells it's newspapers of rpublications.

Yeah, god knows there are a lot of bogus stories about Seagal and it just is frustrating to see someone like Cooper passing them on as facts on high profile talk shows...
It is frustrating how Seagal gets a lot of flack in the media, that's all I'm saying.
