Filmmaker claims to find Jesus' 'Lost Tomb'
February 27, 2007

Jesus' 'Lost Tomb'?
Filmmakers and scholars yesterday unveiled two stone ossuaries they said could have contained the remains of Jesus and Mary Magdalene, but several other scholars derided claims in a new documentary as unfounded and contradictory to basic Christian beliefs. "The Lost Tomb of Jesus," produced by Oscar-winning director James Cameron and airing March 4 on the Discovery Channel, argues that 10 ancient ossuaries -- small caskets used to store bones -- discovered in a suburb of Jerusalem in 1980 may have contained the bones of Jesus and his family. One of the caskets even bears the title "Judah, son of Jesus," hinting that Jesus may have had a son, according to the film. The very fact that Jesus had an ossuary would contradict the Christian belief that he was resurrected and ascended to heaven. "There's a definite sense that you have to pinch yourself, that what you're doing, that e-mail you just sent, is real," Cameron said at yesterday's news conference. He told NBC'S "Today" show earlier in the day that statisticians found "in the range of a couple of million to one in favor of it being them." Simcha Jacobovici, the Toronto filmmaker who directed the documentary, said that a name of one of the ossuaries -- "Mariamene" -- is a major support to the argument that the tomb is that of Jesus and his family. In early Christian texts, "Mariamene" is the name of Mary Magdalene, he said. Most Christians believe Jesus' s body spent three days at the site of the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem's Old City. The burial site identified in Cameron's documentary is in a southern Jerusalem neighborhood nowhere near the church. In 1996, when the British Broadcasting Corp. aired a short documentary on the same subject, archeologists challenged the claims. Amos Kloner, the first archeologist to examine the site, said the idea fails to hold up by archeological standards but makes for profitable television. "They just want to get money for it," Kloner said. Shimon Gibson, one of three archeologists who discovered the tomb in 1980, said yesterday of the film : "I'm skeptical, but that's the way I am. I'm willing to accept the possibility." The film's claims, however, have raised the ire of Christian leaders in the Holy Land. Stephen Pfann, a biblical scholar at the University of the Holy Land in Jerusalem who was interviewed in the documentary, said its hypothesis holds little weight. "I don't think that Christians are going to buy into this," Pfann said. "But skeptics, in general, would like to see something that pokes holes into the story that so many people hold dear.

Wow, this is explosive stuff...I love all these conspiracy stuff...Looking forward to see this documentary if I can get it !

A new documentary about Jesus is causing quite a controversy. That's because of claims that archaeologists may have found the burial cave of Jesus and his family.

The discovery channel will soon air a documentary, saying ten ancient caskets found in a Jerusalem suburb may have contained the bones of Jesus and his family. The small caskets found were marked with the names of Jesus, Mary and a son of Jesus named Judah. If Jesus had a casket-- it would contradict Christian belief that he was resurrected and ascended into heaven.

Hollywood filmmaker James Cameron is the documentary's executive producer. "What this find does and what this film does and what this investigation does is celebrate the real life existence of these people. This man, who 2,000 years ago, had a vision he communicated to people and in a viral way it spread around the world over the subsequent centuries … and it resounds down to us now in the present way in a way that no other human being has had the same type of impact," says Cameron.

Cameron says this is not a publicity stunt, but some religious leaders in the Coastal Empire aren't so sure. They’re concerned about the information being given in the documentary -- that Jesus may have been married to Mary Magdalene and had a son named Judah. Those are things Christian leaders don't agree with – and hope you feel the same way.

"My first reaction was here they go again," says Father Desmond Ohankwere with St. Benedict the Moor Catholic Church in Savannah. He says this is another way to test the faith of Christians. There was the Da Vinci Code and another instance in mistaken identity.

"Not too long ago we heard that the bones of St. James had been discovered and that turned out to be a fraud and the same people involved in that fraud are now involved in this newest evidence," says Father Michael Kavanaugh with Our Lady of Lourdes in Port Wentworth – evidence that religious leaders aren't quick to believe.

"Associating Christ with Mary Magdalene is just unfair to us Christians," says Ohankwere.

"How are you going to prove using DNA that you've got Jesus' bones? You've got to have some of Jesus' bones around today and that doesn't exist," says Kavanaugh.

They hope most people will dismiss the documentary's findings. "I think people have to look to the traditional faith. This faith in the resurrection of Jesus is 2,000 years old," says Kavanaugh.

But Christian leaders say they're still worried about those whose faith isn't that strong. "I'm worried that many people will be misled with all these findings … It could affect them to believe otherwise," says Ohankwere.

Christian leaders want you to remember that this won't be the last time you'll hear of a discovered grave or bones or something else. "There are always going to be people who will use religion -- whatever form -- to strike a nerve," says Kavanaugh.

We spoke with several other Christian leaders who couldn't meet with us on camera today -- but they felt the same exact way as the men we interviewed.

The documentary is titled "The Lost Tomb of Jesus" and is scheduled to air Sunday, March 4 on the Discovery Channel at 9pm.

The debate makes waves !!!:D

Let's have a good debate on that one !

A new documentary about Jesus is causing quite a controversy. That's because of claims that archaeologists may have found the burial cave of Jesus and his family.

The biggest bunch of hogwash I've seen in a while! The idiots are always "trying" to prove "something" detrimental concerning Jesus
and..............they haven't nor will they ever!!

How many people do you suppose were named Jesus, Mary or Judah??
All 3 names extremely common in Israel!

It's still blasphamey, Mr. Cameron! I wouldn't want to be in your shoe
at judgement!

The religious leaders are correct.... it is just a way of making the almighty
dollar!

"My first reaction was here they go again," says Father Desmond Ohankwere with St. Benedict the Moor Catholic Church in Savannah. He says this is another way to test the faith of Christians. There was the Da Vinci Code and another instance in mistaken identity.

Yep!! Money talks and, you know what, walks!

"Not too long ago we heard that the bones of St. James had been discovered and that turned out to be a fraud and the same people involved in that fraud are now involved in this newest evidence," says Father Michael Kavanaugh with Our Lady of Lourdes in Port Wentworth – evidence that religious leaders aren't quick to believe.

ahhh!!! They didn't make as much money with the St. James lies so
now they're tackling Jesus! What jerks!!

"Associating Christ with Mary Magdalene is just unfair to us Christians," says Ohankwere.

This statement is so stupid it doesn't deserve an answer!!

"How are you going to prove using DNA that you've got Jesus' bones? You've got to have some of Jesus' bones around today and that doesn't exist," says Kavanaugh.

Perhaps the only thing in this world that is completely impossible!!

They hope most people will dismiss the documentary's findings. "I think people have to look to the traditional faith. This faith in the resurrection of Jesus is 2,000 years old," says Kavanaugh.

The "Romans" and the upper echilon of the Sanhedrian couldn't make the lie stick 2000 years ago and that pack of blasphemous liars can't do it now!

But Christian leaders say they're still worried about those whose faith isn't that strong. "I'm worried that many people will be misled with all these findings … It could affect them to believe otherwise," says Ohankwere.

That scares the tar out of me as well! New Christians could become involved in some serious trouble. It's not just their lives that are at stake, it's their very souls!

Christian leaders want you to remember that this won't be the last time you'll hear of a discovered grave or bones or something else. "There are always going to be people who will use religion -- whatever form -- to strike a nerve," says Kavanaugh.

Wasn't the first and won't be the last!! But I can't just sit on the sidelines
and say nothing! That would make me as sinfully guilty as they are!

Of course it's the tomb of "Jesus"! Just not my Jesus Christ!!

The debate makes waves !!!:D
:apeace:]

It can make waves from now to judgement but it's not going to change any "CHRISTIAN'S" mind!! It's not going to change the truth!!
God bless,

Do you believe in Jesus? Of course!

Was he the son of God? He was/is the Son of the Living God!

Do you believe in the resurrection? Yep...and it's coming! "On that Resurrection morning when all the dead in Christ shall rise, I'll have a new body, praise the Lord, I'll have a new life"!!
That's a song, son!!

Was he married? NO!!!

Did he have children? NO!!!

Was Jesus an Extra Terrestrial? Not hardly!! He was born here, on earth, remember??

Was Judas his best friend as stated in the lost Judas testament? Judas testament? No such thing!!

Who was Jesus? The Son of God, a Rabbi, a Minister, a teacher, my Saviour, my King of Kings, my Lord of Lords, my Redeemer, etc., etc., etc!! He took the sins of the world upon His own shoulders because His Father asked Him to and He died there on that cross for you and me!!
Now, all that we need do is to ask, in earnest, and we are freed from all our sins!.......... you asked the questions and those are my best answers!!

Let's have a good debate on that one !

I don't want to sound disrespectful or anything like this at all as I respect all religions but for me there are too many unanswered questions on this topic.

Look, I was educated in France by Roman Catholics between the age of 5 to 10 and the sisters were hard and beating up kids up.
This was not nice certainly when Jesus said 'you should love one another etc...'
I found Roman Catholicism to be the biggest sect around.

Millions of people are worshipping the pope when Jesus said that people should worship only him...

Few years ago I did turn to Christianity and thought I did found something only for other Christians to brain wash me and impose on me their ideas and stuff such as the world in no older than 4,000 years old ish, that we're the only race of beings in the galaxy etc.... which for me was difficult to take as I don't want people to impose their ideas on me, or bully me to believe to everything I'm being told.

I always like to go a bit deeper on things...

For the last 30 years as an example I have always been fascinated by the stars and the wonders of the universe and I have always had a keen interest in UFO's and life on other planets as an example. When I became a Christian few years ago I was told by many Christians that to believe such things was a sin and the work of the devil as God only created us in the whole universe !!!
Which to me, is nonsense, as I myself saw a UFO only last year whilst doing a trip to Egypt and Israel which was a unique experience !

I know, 99.9% of UFO sightings are explainable...I've been reading that stuff for years and years...What I saw was no plane, no helicopter, no weather balloon, no military aircraft, no star, no shooting star, no satellite...It was unexplainable...and I saw this UFO at 6PM driving back from Jerusalem to Taba just after the Dead Sea near the Negev mountains and the Ramon crater..

Imagine saying this to a religious person...They'll think I am completely mad but UFO's have been with us for thousands of years...well this is my opinion...

I respect everyone's opinions and religions etc...but my ideas goes deeper by the day...

Jesus Existed...Jesus lived...Jesus made miracles...I agree...

Jesus was a great man, a great teacher, a great being...I agree...

But Jesus for me was sent to this Earth to deliver a message...All the way from the stars...to deliver a message of peace, love and harmony to the human race...That's my opinion...

Don't shoot me for it...

I have been there, tried the religion stuff, got the Tshirt...
Not for me anymore even if I believe Jesus was a magnificent person...

Life is full of surprises...
I learn and discover new things every day.

Much energy,

Jules

I heard about this story in the news. This tomb apparently was proven false 20 years ago. People forget that in Europe the names of Jesus, Mary and Joseph are very common.

You can find the answers to your questions in the bible. It's all in there.

There will always be people who will try to discredit Jesus Christ. Because of sin in the world, man will want to find his "own" way. Thus, people will deny Him, hate Him, and hate anyone who follows the bible (Gods word) and Jesus Christ. Jesus said it would happen in the bible, so I am not surprised when I get persecuted for mentioning God the Father, Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirit of God (the trinity of Christ) Analogy: Like an egg. Three parts...the shell, the white, the yolk. All are different but are all part of the egg.

Good websites to go to are: blueletterbible.com or biblegateway.com

Like I said before....there will always be people who want to discredit the bible and Jesus Christ. They don't want to know God. They want to find their own way.
I have listed in other threads books people wrote to prove its truths...including former athiest Lee Strobel.

People will always deny the bible and try and discredit it. ALWAYS! I bet the Satanl has a hay day when even just one believes the lies.

A good tape to watch is:Intelligent design.

The good thing is even when we believe in God or not he loves us just the same. He waits for us to come to Him by free will.

Jules,
Thank you so much for the web sites:

blueletterbible.com or biblegateway.com

I had not been to those sites before.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3:17 For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved.

These verses make me feel as though God, Himself, is speaking to me!
I hope and pray that I never, ever lose this wonderful feeling!

For those who are unsure, just remember that God loves you. Your answers
will come. Our time and God's time are completely different. What may be many years to us may be only micro seconds to Him!

For those who deny Him and the Bible (God's word), I don't understand you but I will pray for you! We are taught to love the sinner but to detest the sin!
I pray the changes come before it's too late!

God bless,
Mama san/Casey

Science Confirms the Bible
(Bear in mind that the Bible was written 2,000-3,000 years ago, )

Science Then:
1 The earth was a flat disk.
2 Only 1,100 stars.
3 Earth sat on a large animal.
4 Science was ignorant on the subject.
5 All stars are the same.
6 Light was in a fixed place.
7 Air was weightless.
8 Winds blow straight.
9 Sick people must be bled.
10 The ocean floor was flat.
11 Ocean fed only by rivers and rain.
12 Hands washed in still water.

The Bible:
1 The earth is a sphere (Isaiah 40:22).
2 Incalculable number of stars (Jeremiah 33.-22).
3 Free float of earth in space (Job 26:7).
4 Creation made of invisible elements (Hebrews 11:3).
5 Each star is different (1 Corinthians 15:41).
6 Light moves (Job 38:19,20).
7 Air has weight (Job 28:25).
8 Winds blow in cyclones (Ecclesiastes 1:6).
9 Blood is the source of life and health (Leviticus 17:11).
10 Ocean floor contains deep valleys and mountains (2 Samuel 22:16; Jonah 2:6).
11 Ocean contains springs (Job 38.-16).
12 When dealing with disease, hands should be washed under running water (Leviticus 15:13).

Science Now:
1 The earth is a sphere.
2 Incalculable number of stars.
3 Free float of earth in space.
4 Creation made of invisible elements (atoms).
5 Each star is different.
6 Light moves.
7 Air has weight.
8 Winds blow in cyclones.
9 Blood is the source of life and health.
10 Ocean floor contains deep valleys and mountains.
11 Ocean contains springs.
12 When dealing with disease, hands should be washed under running water.

No Book Like This Book

There is no book like the Bible. Do you have a bookshelf at home? How many books do you have there? What is it that makes them different from each other? No doubt the sizes vary, as well as the number of pages, and the contents of each book. Some of them were written to entertain you, while others were written to educate you. Just as the books in your home differ from one other, so the Bible is different form any other book in the world. The claims the Bible makes of itself set it apart, as compared to other books. It claims to be the Word of God. The unity of the Bible also sets it apart. Think about it there are 66 books, written by more than 40 human writers from various walks of life, in three languages, written all over the world, over a period of 1600 years!!! And yet it has but one central message. Now that’s unique! In this day and age books come and go; some are bestsellers and others are failures. In time, many go out of print and are no longer available, but not so with the Bible. Its uniqueness is also seen in its survival over the centuries. When in comes to the bible, there is No book like this Book!

Languages:
Aramaic
Hebrew
Greek

Writers:
Moses, a lawgiver and prince
Joshua, a military general
Solomon, a king
Daniel, a prime minister
Amos, a herdsman
Matthew, a tax collector
Luke, a doctor
Peter, a fisherman

Locations:
Moses in the wilderness
Jeremiah in a dungeon
Luke while traveling
Paul in prison
John on the island of Patmos

One Central Message:
GOD

The amazing unity is only possible because there was but one author, God Himself. The Bible was written by God using the hands of men.
2 Peter 1:21 “For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.”
He used the writing styles and personalities of these men to communicate His message. This whole process is called inspiration. Since God has inspired the Scriptures.
2 Timothy 3:16 “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,”

Matthew 24:35 “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.”

The Nazis burned it, Voltaire said it would be gone two years after his death, Governments ban it, people are beheaded for having them,………………………
………………. but no matter what man does God’s word will remain. It’s survival in the face of numerous attacks should not surprise us because God says His Word endures forever.
1 Peter 1:25 “…but the word of the Lord stands forever. And this is the word that was preached to you.”

strive to do better

I believe that we as people should not settle on just one understanding, and should strive to understand all possibilities. That does not always mean that you would deny your God or trample your religion. Questioning is healthy. The world will not end if you ask questions but you should remember that if you are going to ask a question for something you already have predisposed an answer for that that it is not the same as a literal inquiry. So to want and desire to learn is not abhorrent behavior even if it goes beyond the scope of an established dogma. It is what makes us better. So question your world. Question your life. Question your foundation. It's okay.
