The book pictured below,in three volumes is A famous book
by Jo Bang Lee on Hwarang Do,inside he describes the syllabus of the Ancient Art he created,Hwarang Do!
The origins of this art can be traced back to Daito Ryu Aikijujitsu and even older!
This Art form resembles Hapkido very much but it's much more fluid, like
some forms of Kung-Fu!
see you next time for another Martial Arts book,or you can do the same with your own books obviously!

What about these?the one By Chuck Norris is rather hard to find now.
The second one by the Late Ed parker is one famous Kenpo book in a long series.
As to Kuk sool Won it's not too different from Hwarang Do,it's a more supple version of Hapkido!

Reviews (all gave 5 stars out of 5):

- "... thing I enjoyed within the book was the section on looking above your opponents head rather than in their eyes ... anyone considering buying this book all I can say is DO IT! You will not regret it."
T. Zmuda

- "When I completed my after work duties, I opened the box and immediately read your book "The Russian System Guidebook" cover to cover. To learn that there are other people in the world who believe in the same martial values I learned from my first Sensei (1958 Bushido), and still believe today is gratifying. Thank you for allowing me the privilege of accessing your knowledge and experiences."
Jim Giebelhaus

- "Some time ago...plauged by an active, untrained, and more often than not frightening psyche, I experienced a self induced psychic coma and thought that I could "get along" better that way (in America-no offense my beloved country). I made the concious decision. I knew it was the wrong decision. But others were not available to me that I could...access. Bad decision for me! I have since struggled the walk home. Tangled and overgrown I knew not the way, only the destination, elusive yet solid, I feared return not to be achievable in time-least I be struck by a car tommorrow, that is. Imagine attempting to walk with no legs.

"The Russian System Guidebook" put the heart back in my chest., and that is the base of my review. Revived and progressed, again whole, -Vladimir Vasiliev (with Ron Borland), Mikhail Ryabko (Vasiliev's teacher), Russia (their origion and influence), everyone involved, connected, and/or in between, with special thanks to Stelios Dokianakis (the illustrator-for unimaginable graphic conveyance) and to my favorite Russian borns upstairs and at school (without which..)- On behalf of myself, for the sake of my father, and those who care about me--spasiba! spasiba! spasiba!. I'm not journeying home so much now as home and prepared to evolve-

I found the illustrations so well drawn as to be an explaination in themselves of the physical mechanics of the system-enough to know what to expect should you pursue training at this very special level of human capability."

Jeet Kune Do shares a similar philosophy on the martial way with Systema, but that is all the similarity between the two. And no, it is NOT like the American "special" forces. Systema is actually a proven self reliable way for the combat operatives. It is unparallel to any other method taught during military training. CIA has very effective teachings when it comes to Kali techniques, but think of this as that to the next level. You won't believe it 'till you actually try and see it.

The shown handbook, is only 60 pages in length yet it is one of the most comprehensive guides you can find. (and I'm not talking about "Martial Arts for Dummies" :D)

hello Yudansha,
Well,I understand your point but I have studied so many systems
which all pretended to be "The Best" ,the new system which was revolutionary that I have become cautious towards all the new systems
which pretended to be "revolutionary" especially whent hey come from the former "Commies"!
besides I have a problem with Grappling,I don't think you can grapple your way out of a mean confrontation in today's world!
Yet I wanted to thank you for this interesting conversation!
I am going to buy this book..maybe it'll convince me!
Are you familiar with what Paul Vunak is doing?
I think his approach of self defense holds water!!!
hey Amos, you can visit my Neighborhood then you'll understand why I do Martial Arts!!! :D :D :D

hello Amos,
In fact my neighborhood had been fine for decades but they've built new
blocks with disreputable people.
A few weirdos have marred a formerly quiet neighborhood!
I guess this thing happens everywhere!
Five years ago it was considered middle class and now it's just for a bunch of riff-raff!LOL
I am strongly considerring moving...Maybe I should buy some castle ,some kinda stronghold with ditches all around!LOL
You know trhis movie with Charlton Heston?"The Omega Man"?Hope it won't
be like this!LOL

You are welcome for the conversation, Lonewolf...

One point that needs to be made clear is that Russia was never Communist. Maybe you should look into the abbreviation of USSR and what it actually stands for. There were communist parties within the government, but the system under which the Union was governed was never communist. Nothing ever was.

Systema does not "pretend" to be the best. What differentiates it from others is that it is being tested on a continual basis. As we speak, there are things going on where it is being applied. Kali experts were in awe of Systema. Which brings me to my next point - Systema is DIFFERENT from Sambo. However, it sounds like that you do not know about the combat sambo - which is a different system altogether from the sport sambo you've seen in the Olympics. Systema uses sambo as a basis, but it is not the sole base to this "system." There is a GREAT deal of weapon's training. In addition to some traditional ones, there are a variety of skills taught so that you can manufacture a weapon of your choice while in trenches and have very limited time for a response. (Remember the scene in Exit Wounds where Seagal uses a chain in a club for defense against a bouncer? Well, Systema devotes a great deal to teaching many techniques against an attacker with a chain - on how to disarm and then, if you wish, use that weapon.)

Systema is NOT a grappling art. It is not an "art" at all. It is a system of combat that's been proven to be above and beyond what is considered effective in many martial arts institutions.

To get a better understanding of Systema, there are a collection of videos created by and starring Vladimir Vasiliev himself. They will set you back, however, about $40-$60 a piece. But if you think about it, for an instructional video of such calibre, that is not much to ask.

Systema has been around for almost 100 years so it's not a "revolutionary" tactic of combat. It's been only recently (within the past decade) unveiled to the public, so it can seem revolutionary in that sense.

That's too much talk. Like I said, you might not believe all that until you actually witness various demonstrations. You can get a brief glimpse at russianmartialart.com.

Good luck.

"how can you say that the USSR was not 'communist'?"

How? For one, because I was a citizen and lived through it. Not the Stalinist era, but through the Soviet times. The Union of Soviet SOCIALIST Republics was NEVER (I won't repeat) communist. You are DEAD wrong for thinking that. Look up communism. Read studies on what a true communist state is required to have and follow to be considered one. USSR was a true socialistic nation. It never had a true communistic ruling. You might not want to argue politics on this issue, because you just plain and simple don't understand the meaning and the difference between governments' ways of ruling their states.

(just a side note: Canada is partially socialist - Martin tries to oppose and look how he is turning to sound like Bush...)

Stalin is considered as the most evil man of the century. And you don't have to point out the fact that millions of his own citizens died by his orders. My grandparents served under his command in the military, and they were ranked high enough to fear the worst. So don't try to lecture me on the times of Stalin and his people. That however, doesn't contradict the fact that Russia and other republics of USSR were never communist. That was the original goal - to make pure communism. It never happened, and still we have yet to see true communism anywhere (in case you were going to bring it up - China and North Korea are not communist either - but they are trying ... not so much China anymore, but North Korea).

Hello to you, too, Lonewolf. :D Having a nice day? :D

And to stick to topic ... Systema was a very confidential training routine that only the "privileged" got to experience during the times of the USSR.
