I received my blu ray of Vengeance Is Mine! I watched it yesterday and I really liked it!
SPOILERS:
Radner and Juliet have been killed during the attack on the safe house. After their funeral it seems that the leader of the hit squad, Stefan, is still alive. Kane swears revenge and together with a new team (only Sarah from season1 stays, Mason quits his job) and an old friend from the CIA, Marcus, he goes after the people responsible for the attack on him and his team. It seems that Stefan is only a little fish in the organisation responsible for the attack.
I am glad to see that the story picks up right after "Payback". I mean Payback was the best episode from Season 1. Payback also created tension and excitement and leaved us with a cliffhanger. The tension and excitement stays on for the first 45 minutes of Vengeance Is Mine. Kane wants revenge for the attack on his team and he hunts down Stefan. When Kane meets Stefan we get a great old-school brutal Seagal fight scène. It’s good to see it’s all Seagal and that the fight is well shot and choreographed. I must admit that everything is shot well and beautiful. True Justice doesn’t look cheap has good locations and nice colours. Waxman did a great job here!
The last 45 minutes (episode 2 when we speak in tv-terms) are used to set up a new story. The CIA is targeting a man called Karadzic. According to Marcus he is the man who gave the order to kill Kane and his team. So Marcus and Kane will be working together. Kane needs new team members and it’s a cool scene when Kane is recruiting new members. Here is where Jesse Hutch as Johnny Garcia and Lochlyn Munro as Mark Simms come in. I like them more then Radner and Juliet. They have great chemistry and humour together and they fit well in the team. We also get Tanaya Beatty as Finch, the tech support. So the story and the team are set!
I really liked Vengeance Is Mine. It’s nice to see that we don’t get a new story but that it actually continues from Season 1. It’s also nice to see that Seagal cares about True Justice. No fight scène doubles and no voice dubbing. Sometimes he still uses a stand in when he is filmed from behind. But I don’t care about it.
What I also like about True Justice is the fact that the character Kane really fits Seagal and his age. He is the leader of a team and it suits him. Also we don’t get stupid scenes as Seagal walking of in the sunset with a girl half his age.
At the end of Vengeance Is Mine I really wanted to see more. I really would like to know who ordered the hit on Kane’s team and most of all: why!
And when you create this feeling as a filmmaker you did a great job I think!
Vengeance Is Mine: good story, great brutal fight scenes, a cool Seagal, good characters, no voice dubbing and it leaves you wanna see more!
