Urban Justice (Renegade Justice) Reviews

I bought the DVD yesterday, and haven't stopped watching it every chance I get. He's good here, isn't he! Story line, the fights, all good. I've always loved him in his movies, and this time as always I wasn't disappointed one little bit. I wasn't surprised to learn that he went off to Europe to visit one of his pet projects at one of so many orphanages he helps. This one doesn't sit around at home much, does he? I have so many pictures of him helping disaster victims in places I've never even heard of. He is just such a beautiful, wonderful human being. I'm so proud of him, even though I'm just a loyal devoted fan.

Just finished watching for the second time, and have to say that it was way better than his last 3-4 efforts. Fights were well done, and Seagal just seemed alot more present in this movie than others. I did not care for the car chase, and they really need to find some other supporting cast members for him if he is really gonna make movies worth mentioning. I thought Chivo would have been a better bad guy than Eddie Griffin. Also I thought that Seagal actually had some good acting moments in here that were absent in almost all other DTV movies he's done. Really looking forward to Marker now.

Overall, easily the best film he's done in ages.

Agreed. Easily the best since Exit Wounds. I hope that this isn't a one-off and that his other upcoming films are as good or better than this.

Urban Justice was a good film. Had a straight A to B plot for a change that was easily understandable. Seagal was in most of the movie. His body double was spotted in only a couple of scenes. The violence was GOOD. Liked the fights. Nothing fancy. His character was filled with rage and fought like a man in the mind set would.

On the downside, the ending with Eddie Griffin was disappointing and the music made parts of the film look and sound like a lunchtime made-for-TV-Canadian drama.

Overall, easily the best film he's done in ages.

One concern though. The film probably turned out good because Don seemed to care about it. What happens if the next film is directed by a journeyman - someone just interested in a paycheck - I fear we might get Attack Force Part2 :( :( Hope not.

well roel renies next move THE TRIBE is getting a moderate cinema release through lions gate next year so hes a director on the up and i think hell put the effort in making pistol whipped good so it acts as a kind of promotion for his next film.HFOL im not sure as jeff king is just a bog standard tv director who although involved in a couple of big shows(black Donnelly's for one) i am concerned for the film.that said HFOL had a 40 day shoot which is alot more than both UJ and PW.

Urban Justice arrived today isn't even in the same ball park as Attack Force. IT WAS GREAT !!!!!! Just go get it. It was worth the money i spent for it. I didn't fine the movie too dark to watch. It did keep me on the edge of my chair. Our man is back in full force!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This has made my week!

The rave going on with this film? ehh...I thought this film was just ok...just so-so at Seagal's best but with all of those great reviews doesn't really work for me.

It was nice to see old-school Seagal in this one but I hated the story and the dialogue. They tried to make one-liners funny but it doesn't work that well especially with too much f bombs which is unnecessary since it doesn't add the grittiness of the film's tone. If they throw it off then I would have liked it a bit more but if they change the dialogue with lot of f bombs to make it to have funny one-liners like in The Last Boy Scout then it would have worked MUCH BETTER.

This film doesn't really do it for me...I still vote Into the Sun as the best Seagal's DTV film. This one comes close in 2nd since it was nice to see Seagal returning to his old style from earlier films.

In addition to this...I hated the film's pacing. I thought it was boring at times.

Sydney is entitled to his opinion, don't go bashing him for it.

Seagal playing like Willis or vice versa won't work, they are two completely different actors and you can not compare the two.

Willis also made some sh**ty films, but he choose wisely in a sequel to the Die Hard serie to give his career a boost. Although I haven't heard anything about Willis since.

Perhaps Seagal should do a sequel to his movie successes (Under Siege or Exit Wounds), but with no budget there will be no big hit.

I think a film like Genghis Khan would have great potential because it has a historical base and almost everybody has heard of Genghis. He just needs a good budget.

I didn't say Seagal should be like Bruce Willis. They're so different in their prime. I mean, come on...Bruce Willis is more of sarastic kind when it comes to humors and Seagal doesn't do this way.

I was saying funny one-liners like in Seagal earlier films which had lot of profanity going on but it was handled better than what was done in Urban Justice, that's all what I was saying.

Point taken and agreed.

This probably also has to do with budgetary restraints.

Excellent Movie!

I'm going to add my two cents to this and tell you this is one humongous difference from the last two films Steven Seagal has ashamedly put his name on.

It is hard driven from start to finish and he deviates in no small way from his goal. Don FauntLeRoy has every reason to be proud of this film. He has listened to the rants and raves of all the fans and I am sure there were times when he had a hard time convincing the invincible man to 'try it this way'.

The killing is brutal and cold. The cemetery scene is heartbreaking and Seagal convinced me that he was in agonizing pain as well as the other family members.
The cinematography was top notch. Just the right fade and blend touches to images that should never be displayed in harsh reality.

A quiet clue in the beginning that I diligently looked for and found at just the right moment told me who the killer was from the start. No pity for all those who met their demise at his hands.

Excellent ending. He didn't need to kill that last one - idiot had all of his crooked cop cohorts 'smoked' and the psycho that he was would meet his end in a short time anyway.

The final scene was just as sad as the cemetery one. He did what he needed to do and added a few others to the list as they got in his way. but in the end he still was a grieving father who lost his son.

Marvelous Don, I'll watch it again and again!
Myst :)
