I'm going to add my two cents to this and tell you this is one humongous difference from the last two films Steven Seagal has ashamedly put his name on.

It is hard driven from start to finish and he deviates in no small way from his goal. Don FauntLeRoy has every reason to be proud of this film. He has listened to the rants and raves of all the fans and I am sure there were times when he had a hard time convincing the invincible man to 'try it this way'.

The killing is brutal and cold. The cemetery scene is heartbreaking and Seagal convinced me that he was in agonizing pain as well as the other family members.
The cinematography was top notch. Just the right fade and blend touches to images that should never be displayed in harsh reality.

A quiet clue in the beginning that I diligently looked for and found at just the right moment told me who the killer was from the start. No pity for all those who met their demise at his hands.

Excellent ending. He didn't need to kill that last one - idiot had all of his crooked cop cohorts 'smoked' and the psycho that he was would meet his end in a short time anyway.

The final scene was just as sad as the cemetery one. He did what he needed to do and added a few others to the list as they got in his way. but in the end he still was a grieving father who lost his son.

Marvelous Don, I'll watch it again and again!
Myst :)
Thank you I am glad you enjoyed it.

If one studies the mentality and language used by gangsters and racist groups in the USA, Steven Seagal only uses their foul-language in order to improve the quality assurance and authentic dialogues of "Urban Justice" movie. He has to. Otherwise, if you had Steven Seagal using passive and kind words in reply to these deranged harbingers, you'd think Steven Seagal wasn't dealing with realness in his films. I think the harsh one-liners in all of Steven Seagals' movies are good for promoting the feeling as if he were in these situation before, and he's recording in on film for fans' education and enjoyment.

My opinion:

+ good and a lot fights
+ simple story
+ good editing
+ good music
+ very bloody and gritty
+ good actors
+ Seagal acts better than in his last movies
+ no voice dubbing

- too much in the dark
- the look is not as good as in Mercenary
- horrible CGI-effects when a car drives
- bad and boring car chase
- too much close ups in the fights, I want to see Seagal and his opponent in the same screen!
- In the solid shootouts, I missed some hits in objects

I enjoyed the movie, it is definitely a step forward for Mr. Seagal, I would be happy if he works with Mr. Fauntleroy again, but it needs more budget and more time to do a movie.

i agree with you in every point, martin

btw..the car chase in "the contractor" with snipes was much better and its also a dtv production.

Watched it yesterday and it was amazing! We were cheering and praising higher beings because this movie was so much better than the more recent ones (eventhough my Seagal crowd and I have enjoyed them quite thoroughly as well.) One of the best Seagal movies available! If the next one is anywhere as good as Urban Justice, I wouldn't be surprised if it went to theaters. Danny Trejo should have played a bigger role, and I was impressed with Eddie Griffin playing a non-comedic role. This movie was everything us Seagal addicts have been hoping for for a while now, if you haven't seen it yet, you really need to.

Don't worry about the ending Heather

In this movie Steven is like a fast moving train on a single track.
He starts out a grieving father with one thing in mind and he doesn't stop until he reaches his goal.

It's fast paced, determined, funny in places, steady in its goal and the man does his job in the best manner he has offered us in years.

No matter what you know, when you put that DVD in your player and turn it on for the first time it is going to make no difference in the enjoyment that you get from the movie. All the spoilers in the world will not take your pleasure away from you when you sit down and watch it.

I have run my copy about ten times now and watched it about 8 1/2 (dagnabbit, sometimes the sandman dumps a load in my eyes and I wake up at 4am to that 'push any DVD player button' so I push it and I'm off again as it starts over and I finish my night listening to "I'm scared, I'm startin to get scared, Come on rob me!" Wham! Bam! Slam!).

So be patient, Heather and then you can enthuse just like the rest of us when you have your own precious copy in your hands ready to watch it again and again. I can see your hands trembling right now in anticipation!

I'm still waiting for the postie to bring my copy too Heather and from what I'm reading here I can't wait much longer! I'm sure Myst is right and it won't matter that you know the ending, hey if she's watched it 8 1/2 times already she knows the ending by now and she's still watching!

Next time your friend is waiting in anticipation for a movie tell her the ending but don't tell her the real one. It really confuses people if they are waiting for a film to end one way and something else happens! That way you keep your conscience clear that you haven't really spoilt it for friends really shouldn't do that to each other.

Ha, ha, ha, ha!

Heather, I like Sue's suggestion. Give her a phony ending.

For years I had someone convinced that if you looked carefully and quickly you could see Harvey at the ending walking off with Jimmy Stewart. Ooops, that one is real - you do have to watch carefully and quickly - it's there, just ask the director (mmpf, she says with hand over mouth)!

I feel I'm going to be sent to stand in the naughty corner with my hands on my head because I didn't enjoy this film. :( It's just the story line I guess. It does have good points and I laughed at the warning on the DVD that it contained bloody violence (what we expect) and I was looking for the warning that said about f***ing bad language too. I had heard that the filming was too dark to see in places but it seemed fine on our TV and could see as much detail as needed while keeping the mood of the scene and I liked the bit shot against the window which reminded me of Chinese or Japanese shadow theatre, nice technique I wasn't expecting. Liked the car chase but didn't like the car. Perhaps I was just in a grumpy mood so I will persevere and keep watching it until I appreciate it! :)
