watched second in commend today(new van damme film) and i would rank it above all seagals films apart from belly of the beast and into the sun.The action was ok as were the fights but some parts the film looked cheap and badly edited......overall nothing special but ok

by the way van dammes next film til death is a warner brothers released via nu iamge(like 16 blocks)so it seems van damme is back in cinemas after all

Thats pretty much what I expected from Second in Command....I think I'll rent it along with Black Dawn, Mercenary for Justice, and The Cutter........I need to catch up! Also, does Van Damme have the lead role in "Til Death"? For some reason I thought that he had a supporting role.

Peace....God Bless

If you can, try to watch Van Damme's Wake of Death. It's one of the absolute best DTV's in ages, way better than most of the crap out in theaters. It's better than any of Van Damme's other work, and is also a better film than any of Seagal's. What's most surprising about the film is its quality; Van Damme pulls out all the stops and proves that he's a very underrated actor. The scene where he discovers his dead wife is literally oscar worthy. Of note, however, is that Wake of Death is not really a martial arts film, it's more a film noir. It's a very beautiful film and is extremely gritty. Van Damme's buds from the French mafia come together to help get revenge against the Chinese mafia. The acting is superb all around. The film relishes in little details, such as the meaningful and loaded glances the protagonists exchange, communicating so much without saying a word. Almost every shot from the film looks like a carefully composed photograph. Simon Yam is also excellent as the villian. Check it out.

My cousin and I spent a while laughing at "Wake for Death". Van Damme's not really acting, its just that he got the same stone-cold grieving expression on his face frozen for the duration of the entire film. Overall the film makes little sense, and the dialogue sucks, just like in any run-of-the-mill DTV movie.

"In Hell" IMO is the best Van Damme DTV movie so far. It is better than any Wesley Snipes', Steven Seagal's, and Dolph Lundgren's DTV movie.

some of van dammes work is good and some is worse than seagals.Til death is van damme in lead role and stephen rea(v for vendetta)in supporting role and is released by warner bros on january 2007.....thing is its directed by simon fellows who did second in command and 7 seconds with wesley snipes so he is just a b movie director and am suprised warner have announced a release date before filming has finished.

I seriously doubt this flick will hit theaters. First off, Simon Fellows hasn't had one theatrical film in his short career...Blessed (also distributed by Warner) went direct-to-DVD a few years back. Since then, he's directed 7 Seconds and Second in Command, both of which followed a similar fate.

Secondly, most of Nu Image's action flicks are released direct-to-DVD. I single out Bruce Willis's 16 Blocks only because he's still making only theatrical films and is still quite a successful box office draw, whereas Seagal, Van Damme and Snipes have had their share of non-theatrical titles.

At this point I don't even see The Hard Corps going theatrical either. A movie based on the star power of Van Damme and Vivica A. Fox alone won't sell very many tickets...even Vivica has had a few direct-to-DVD titles (Blast! comes to mind).

Same here. The fact is, neither Seagal nor Van Damme are top box office draws anymore, and to spend the millions of dollars it takes to properly market a film around them isn't worth it since their names aren't as bankable anymore. Unless Prince of Pistols manages to attract some bigger names to the cast, I don't think we'll be seeing it in theaters. Just my opinion.

As much as I would like to see Van Damme on the big screen again, I think it's not going to happen with Til Death. There's not enough starpower in that movie.
I do however like the way Van Damme's career is heading, I wouldn't be suprised if we see him on the big screen again in the near future.

Exactly...I also feel the same way. These one-time top action stars need more than themselves to sell a film nowadays. I also watched Second in Command...it was OK, certainly not as good as In Hell or Wake of Death, but much better than most of the recent crap Seagal has been putting out (Out of Reach, Submerged, Today You Die).
