It's a bit too early to do an action film on Iraq... I think the film will be so much over-flawed that it will be a joke. My prediction only.

Ye me too, besides are they even going to shoot it in Iraq or just on a set pretending to be in Iraq??

shoot in Iraq?

Unless they're planning to give U.S. military a hand, Van Damme won't be doing any shooting in Iraq. Too many precautions would have to be taken, and at the moment, that would cost much more than JC's budget allows him at this stage in his career.

Ye and by knowing the current status of Iraq right now, filming or even pretending to shoot a movie in that location is just plain stupid with the timing of events going on right now.

so it wasn't scrapped, eh?

That IS a good thing to look forward to!! So many martial arts magazines praised Van Damme for Kumite and the abilities he's rebirthed.

Nope wasn't scrapped just put on hold, I'm guessing because he is spending so much time to develop and finish the concept of the film before they will actuall begin shooting it.

"Kumite" has been cancelled, the producers couldn't provide the money they promised to "Van Damme". That's the reason he has signed on to "Second in Command".

"Second in Command" is now in Post production.

His next projects are:

"Second In Command" - Directed by "Simon Fellows" who has directed "Wesley Snipes" in his latest movie called "7 Seconds".

In the film, "Jean-Claude" plays an official who's just been appointed as
"Second In Command" to the U.S. Ambassador at an American Embassy in a
small, turbulent Eastern European nation. When local insurgents attempt a
coup d'etat, the nation's President takes refuge inside the embassy. The
embassy is then besieged by the well-armed insurgents. The U.S. Ambassador
is killed in the ensuing action, and now it's up to Jean-Claude and the
embassy's small detachment of U.S. Marines to fend off the attackers.

"The Hard Corps" - It will have nothing to do with "Van Damme" fighting in Irac.
It will probably be filmed in Canada around October till December.
According to IMDB it will also star Wesley Snipes, this is in fact not true.
"Sheldon Lettich" confirmed that the only one that has been cast so far is "Van Damme".

"Jean-Claude" will be playing a Combat Vet who's just spent the last 3 years fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq, who is hired to be a bodyguard to a former World Heavyweight Boxing champ to protect him and his family against a Rap Music Mogul. He sets up a team called "The Hard Corps", complications arise when the boxer suspects that his sister may be in love with the bodyguard.

His next project is the one that's already getting the most attention.

"Bloodsport: New beginning" - Written (and directed although not yet confirmed) by "Sheldon Lettich".

Sheldon Lettich said:
First of all, the official title is "Bloodsport: New Beginning." Although JCVD likes to refer to it as "B2".

The script is already written, and it was written by me.

This is the big news I've been promising for a while. The contracts are signed, and money has changed hands. This is happening.

No -- absolutely NO! -- it is NOT the "Kumite" script! It's a completely new screenplay that I was hired to write back in April of 2004, by the people who legally own the rights to the "Bloodsport" title and franchise. Again, this has absolutely nothing to do with the project called "Kumite," and nothing to do with anyone who was involved with that project.

Sorry, but that's all I can say for now. You'll hear more details as they become finalized.

Sheldon Lettich said:
The storyline of B2 does have a direct tie-in to the storyline of the first "Bloodsport." But JCVD will NOT be playing a character named "Frank Dux."

Also, this film is not structured like the original. It's not a "Tournament" film from start to finish, like the first "Bloodsport" was, but there WILL be fights -- Martial Arts fights and brutal street fights -- lots of them, throughout the film. I can't reveal the exact nature of the storyline. All I can tell you is that it's unique. You haven't seen anything quite like this in a Martial Arts movie before.

(The name "Frank Dux" cant be used simpy because the real "Frank Dux" once sued "Van Damme" for not getting any credit on writing the story for "The Quest".)

Around the same time he will also have a role in the third installment of the "Asterix & Obelix" movies, also starring "Gérard Depardieu".

Astérix aux jeux olympiques - A French big budget movie which will cost somewhere near €65,000,000 (70 million dollar).

He will play the comic character "Cornerdurus", the main rival to "Asterix" when he is competing at the olympics.

Some of these projects could turn out pretty good, I enjoyed many of his later movies and he seems to be growing as an actor. (which is good for him)

Yep, Van Damme is doing a sequel to Bloodsport!!! What's interesting is something Sheldon wrote, he said the people who own the rights to the Bloodsport name wouldn't let them do another movie if it were destined for DTV. So Im guessing B2 will be Van Damme theatrical comeback movie.

here's some news on The Hard Corps

We're finally starting some serious pre-production on the film. The new, firm start date is November 7th (11/7), and we'll be filming in Vancouver until the middle of December. Then we take a break for a few weeks for the holidays, and we'll finish up in mid-January with a week of interiors at the Castel Studios in Romania.

Casting has begun. The producer has sent out a couple of offers this week. Sorry, but I can't reveal any names until the deals are finalized.

Here's a few other details that I give you: The d.o.p. will be Doug Milsome, who was also the cinematographer for "Legionnaire" and "Second In Command." And we've begun speaking to Scott Ateah (who worked with JCVD on "Replicant" and "the Order") about being our Stunt Coordinator.

kumite as far as i have been informed was almost halfway to completion but a problem with distributors for the movie caused jcvd to pause production and so jumped in to make second in command followed by hard corps.he will then look to make bloodsport 2 in the 2nd half of 2006 but this is DEFINITELY not kumite under a different title.maybe by making these 3 movies almost back to back he hopes to build on his fanbase creating more publicity and demand for him to finish kumite.hopefully this will work and the various distribution companies will see that jcvd still has a great on screen presence and is now up and coming as a martial artist that can actually act!i will be looking forward to ALL future jcvd projects.given the number of movies he has made only 1 or 2 could really be slated, they have all been good old fashioned action flicks not really pretending to be anything else just good fights and action aplenty!

JCVD is the man! While he may not be as good of a martial artist as Seagal, he still has that rawness about him and is now showing his real potential as an actor. I mean, this guy can REALLY act. He tends to portray characters in a more human way (he crys, he gets hurt, etc). Hes determined and it seems like he is really putting all of his effort into these projects.....and a Bloodsport sequel...that just rocks (even though I dont think that Bloodsport was his best film). The man's well earned comeback is going to be awesome. I will definitely check these out as soon as they come out. Go Van Damme!!!!

Wait. A couple people tell me Kumite is still a go just under a different name, and a couple people tell me it is totally scrapped from filing. Which one is right??

Any sources??

hi little dragon, kumite was halted approx halfway through production due to distribution problems.he will make 3 movies the first nearing completion called second in command, next up is "the hard corps" due start filming this month.then the sheldon letitch scripted "bloodsport 2 new beginning".kumite and always was called just kumite.when it resolves its problems production will not resume at the earliest until june/july 2006 giving it a 2007 release.kumite will not be released before that!hope this helps!

That's not true, according to Michael McDonald (cast member) filming never ever started. But he did say one time that Van Damme was in Asia and might be shooting some scenes there. Then a few weeks late he said the film was canceled due to problems between the producers and Van Damme. Who knows if any scenes were actually shot? But if any were shot it was minimal stuff, nothing with any actors.

Nobody knows if Kumite is still happening but it is still listed on Hannibalpictures.com. And there was a post or an article or something by Jerome LeBanner (cast member) a long time ago saying the movie was delayed till 2006.

Second in Command is in post production and will come out Spring 06, The Hard Corps is in pre production and will start filming the 4th of November and there hasn't been any NEW news on B2.

Also there was a recent Kazakhstan article talking about two new Van Damme movies called "Going between the Lines" and "Freedom", but who knows how accurate that info is...

i would think those 2 movies are alternate titles for second in command and hard corps.but as to kumite there was definitely an article somewhere which i will try and find in my history that stated some scenes had been shot.

DMX was supposed to play the villain Terrell Singletery but he's going to jail also the stunt coordinator is Scott Ateah who was the SC for I, Robot.

Viv Leacock has taken over the role that was originally going to be played by DMX.

Sheldon Lettich stated that it might be possible that DMX will play a smaller role once he comes out of jail, those scenes would be filmed in The Castle Film Studios in Romania. (It mostly will be dialogue scenes)

Lettich also stated that it might be possible this one will get a small/limited theatrical release in North-America.

I have to say that i'm very impressed with the way Van Damme's career is going right now.
