Hello Pantera,

There is a martial art that is right for each individual. Over the years I have studied Aikido, Tukong Moosul, western boxing and Hapkido. The reason I decided to stay with Hapkido is because it is strictly self-defense. It is also a beautiful art when properly executed. When our special forces were in Viet Nam (ie. Green Berets), Hapkido was our style of choice. It is effective. The founders of Aikido and Hapkido studied under the same Master. Good luck! :)

Thats great you are so active in Martial Arts, keep up the hard work.

Hi guys!

I have been practicing chinese kung-fu: Wing-Chun for more than two and a half year now. And it is an extremely effective martial arts to use in street fights. Basically, in this kung fu system, anything goes. Ranges from the kick in the groin to throat strikes, eye gouging. You name it.

We generate power from our stance and utilise our body weight into every attack and defence we do.

Bruce Lee first started Wing-Chun before he went on and invent Jee-Kun-Do. Lots of movements in his Jee-kun-do are from wing-chun. So if you watch his movie, you would have some rough idea of wing-chun.

Check out my school's website if you would like to know more about the martial arts I do.

There's also a forum as well!!!!! Where you can ask questions or look through the threads to know more about this martial art.

But also remember why he did not stick with Wing-Chun-- because it was too traiditional and limited a martial artist when in the street there are no limits.. ;)

Tai-Chi?? How so?
With tai chi, you have a wider variety to defend yourself with, you can avoid punches, kicks, bitings, eye gouges, grapplings, and so on. tai chi's sidesteps and pressure point applications, and joint dislocations are less messier as well !!!!

Well, in Wing-Chun there are absolute no limits when it comes to a fight. And Bruce Lee isn't the invincible fighting warrior thats in everyone's head. Even until his dying days, he still couldn't beat his Wing-Chun Sifu: Wong-Sheung-Leung. As his combat skills is still nowhere close to his wing-chun master. To go through the whole system of wing-chun takes a lot of dedication and time.

My Sifu has been practicing wing-chun for more than 40 years and he can execute a powerful 1-inch punch with only 20% of his power. I seen him doing that in a demo and it sent the volunteer guy took off at least 4 metres away from him.

Bruce Lee's skill was nowhere close to that. He only done about 5 years of wing-chun and decided to modify wing-chun into a way that suits him but he doesn't stick with all the wing-chun principles for his Jee Kun Do.

I truly believe that bruce lee was the greatest fighter ever! His fightin went beyond wing chun he did all styles of fighting and i guess he must have learned as much wing chun as he thought he needed to.

So if you have had no one on one expierence and just learned from books how can you give someone advice on how to defend themselves?

I have been doing martial arts for 12 years, tae kwon do, aikido, judo, brazillian jiu-jitsu, kung fu, hapkido, boxing, jeet kune do..

Well in Aikido they say. Walk away, thats the best defence.
Love Connie

I agree with you Connie! To walk away and avoid the situation is the best defense, but then again when you have no more options you better darn well know how to fight/defend yourself. ;)

The best defense in a street fight is: "Not to offend"

What do you mean? To avoid the situation? Because in a STREET FIGHT which you have stated, it is too late, it is already in progress if you really mean a street FIGHT. The best defense in a street fight is simplicity, gouge the eyes, kick to the groin, strike to the throat.

It depends Little.
Sometimes you don't need to gouge eyes to save yourself (even in a so called street fight). And If you don't have to do that then that is not the best defense.

The best defense is always what works. It can be walking away or stepping of the line if that's all it takes then great - no need to be more severe - or it can be a punch or a kick. It all depends.

Yes that's true Aikilove, just giving an example of simplicity and how to use any means necessary if your life is at stake. ;)
