Dear Friends,
Yamada Sensei is pleased to invite you to the 2004 Summer Camp, set for Saturday July 31
to Saturday August 7 at Colgate University. This very special event will mark the 40th Anniversary of the New York Aikikai, so come to Colgate to share seven days of aikido training as we also celebrate 40 years of Yamada Sensei’s dojo!

We are privileged that instruction will be provided by world-renowned shihan to offer you a variety of aikido styles. Here is the amazing line-up:

Doshu M. Ueshiba
N. Tamura Y. Kurita H. Osawa
M. Kanai Y. Kawahara
S. Sugano I. Shibata Y. Yamada

We also have the benefit of the fabulous facilities at Colgate. Located in Hamilton, set amid the rolling hills and dairy farms of central New York State, Colgate offers terrific rooms and great food in a beautiful setting. An added feature is that training will be offered in the very spacious field house on real tatami! And at the end of the day’s training, you can participate in a series of social activities, renew old friendships and make new ones.

The aikido community has grown over the past 40 years. The New York Aikikai has seen its share of change, but we have always valued our friendships. In our planning, one goal was to make the 2004 Summer Camp and 40th Anniversary Celebration affordable so that you can attend: the cost for seven days is $625.

Please mark your calendars now! More detailed information and registration packets will be posted on the website and mailed to you in January. On behalf of Yamada Sensei and the entire New York Aikikai, we look forward to seeing all of you this summer at Colgate.

Thank you.
Good luck
Bye, Bye..

I have the sad news that Mitsunari Kanai sensei (one of the instructors in the line up) died this sunday of a massive heart attack in his room. He was 65 years old. One of the few direct live in students of the founder of aikido left is now gone.
