Can someone tell me a little about Hip Hop?

Can someone tell me a little more about this genre? Someone has to know more than I do...I like all music, but there are some gernres (like jazz) that I know little about...I know supposedly there's a difference in Hip Hop and Rap, but I can't describe the differences...Also, tell me who the best artists are if you would, please...I think I heard Steven has done some work in the genre, anyone know? Thanks for any info, I am dying to know...Anyone?
