LOS ANGELES -- Grammy winner Eric Clapton has been inducted into RockWalk -- established in 1985 to honor musicians who have made a significant contribution to the history of music -- in a private ceremony.

Clapton, 59, received a commemorative plaque and had imprints of his hands and signature installed in marble on Sunset Boulevard Monday.

He recently completed a North American concert tour to promote his latest CD, Me and Mr. Johnson.

I hadn't even heard of this before. Here's a bit more info on the Hollywood RockWalk. It's a very interesting site, with lots of info. If you're interested, here's the link.

Hollywood RockWalk
at Guitar Center
7425 Sunset Boulevard,
Hollywood, CA. / (323) 874-1060

"Guitar Center" is a large music store, situated on Sunset Boulevard in the heart of Hollywood. It's a fine place to buy a guitar, but what makes this particular store special is what lies just outside its front door: The Hollywood RockWalk ®.

Like a small version of courtyard at Mann's Chinese Theatre, this little patio contains the handprints of numerous celebrities. But these celebrities aren't movie stars - they're rock musicians and guitar greats.

Hollywood has long paid tribute to its film & TV heritage, but its rock & roll pioneers tended to go unrecognized. Founded in 1985, Hollywood's RockWalk was created to remedy that injustice - it is the only sidewalk which immortalizes the legends of the music world, a permanent way of honoring those individuals and bands who made a lasting an important contribution to music.

The cement squares of the RockWalk contain only the star's handprints; unlike those at Grauman's Chinese, there are no footprints. And while some of the squares contain actual autographs (Little Richard, Dick Clark, George Martin...), most contain just a tiny bronze plaque which contains the name and facsimile signature of each artist.

On the east wall above the RockWalk are a number of large bronze plaques, containing the likenesses of such musical celebrities as Elvis, Jimi Hendrix, Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison, Marvin Gaye, Keith Moon, John Bonham, Rick Nelson, Buddy Rich, and Gene Krupa. A legend reads:

"The RockWalk: to those whose music continues to echo through the decades..."

And there are indeed some big names who have left their handprints here : Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, Eddie & Alex Van Halen, Bo Diddley, Brian Wilson, James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Aerosmith, Smokey Robinson, The Moody Blues, Jimmy Page, the Doobie Brothers, Carl Perkins, Greg Allman, Black Sabbath, Grace Slick, Alice Cooper, Ozzy Osbourne, Nancy Wilson, Johnny Cash, Jethro Tull, Steely Dan, Ted Nugent, Emerson Lake & Palmer, Jeff Beck, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Kansas, The Ramones, The Ventures, Jan & Dean, Carlos Santana, blues master B.B. King, singer/songwriter Carol King, Dick Clark (host of "American Bandstand"), Leo Fender (inventor of the Fender guitar) and one of the early guitar masters, Les Paul.

Future inductees are by a secret ballot vote of past RockWalk honorees, each of whom are asked to submit a list of three possible inductees. All induction ceremonies are open to the public. You can obtain a list of upcoming inductees at the RockWalk's own website.

Here's my guy!

Bob Seger. One of my all-time favorites. Who are some of yours?
BSEGER_v_main.jpg

Michigan-rocker Bob Seger developed into one of the most popular heartland rockers of the '70s and '80s by combining the driving charge of garage rock with hard-edged soul and R&B. His distinctively American sound gathered a dedicated following through constant touring with his Silver Bullet Band. Back-to-back release of "Live Bullet" and "Night Moves" in 1976 gave Seger platinum success. He retained his popularity for the next two decades, with seven Top 10, platinum-selling albums in a row.

Very good choices there, yudansha! I like all of them quite a bit, with the exception of Jim Hendrix's music. Although I do admit he was one of the greatest, if not the greatest, guitarists ever.

Some of my other favorites from the list:

Alice Cooper August 27, 1991--Crazy about this crazy guy! :D
Brian Wilson November 28, 1996 --Extremely talented songwriter, plus in one of my favorite groups.
Cheap Trick October 2, 1998
Dick Clark March 28, 1991--Now, who doesn't like Dick? :D
Johnny Cash September 21, 1990--Not sure why he's here, though I liked him as a country celebrity.
Rick Nelson May 8, 1996--I loved his songs. One of my "oldies" favorites.
