"Long Way Around" lyrics revisited

While googling for the lyrics to "Long Way Around" from Fire Down Below, this thread popped up. I found the same lyrics - in several different locations - that GlimmerMan posted in 2005. However, in listening to the song, some of these lyrics just don't fit. I can't find sheet music and there is no notation as to where these lyrics came from.

Anyone have any information on the lyrics? Or, listened to the song enough to figure them out? Or, have any guesses as to what the singer, Richie Sambora, is actually saying.
