Dear friends,
Below is an article by a gentleman by the name of Jerry Kirksey. It says what 99 9/10% of all Christians have been trying to tell the world since Calvary but, alas, extremely few are willing to listen. This article also has to do with the movie called "The Passion" (an excellant movie by the way).

Perspective: Nobody Killed Jesus

John 10:17-18 "The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life only to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father."

I have seen more press coverage about Jesus over the past several weeks than ever in my lifetime, thanks to Mel Gibson's Passion movie. However, I must say the journalistic ignorance about true Christianity has been appalling. I know most readers of Singing News have found it almost amusing to see how little the writers and reporters for major newspapers and national syndications actually know about Christianity.

I am an avid newspaper reader - most days, I read several newspapers. I usually read USA Today wherever I am. When I'm at home, I read The Winston-Salem Journal, The Charlotte Observer and the local papers. Carolyn and I spend lots of time on the road so I read a large variety of newspapers across America.

I have found some things in common with most of these papers; they have a liberal slant which, when combined with their lack of knowledge about Christianity, makes for some interesting reading. For those papers that have a religious editor, he or she usually turns out to be an intellectual nut case, whose God is intellectualism; their faith is in their own intellect, not in God. I have almost stopped picking up copies of The New York Times or The Los Angeles Times because by the time I finish reading them I need a drink - you know, plop, plop, fizz, fizz, oh, what a relief it is...

When reading about the Passion movie, I have noticed two major issues that emerge in each story written by these journalists. The first is they're all concerned about who killed Jesus, and second, what effect this awful movie is going have on our children and the American people.

The first item I want to clear up for the secular press is no one killed Jesus. John 10:17-18, I think, covers that issue completely. Jesus, fully human and fully God, willing laid down His life on the cross for all sinners. Jesus died on the cross - He was not killed on the cross.

Talking about clueless, the other night I was watching TV and they were discussing the Passion movie, and one person who had seen it said, "It's a great story, someone should write a book about it." I think these guys trying to write about Christianity is kind of like me trying to write about splitting the atom.

Now, the second issue contained in each story I have read was the writer's concern about what effect this bloody movie will have on our children and the American people. What unmitigated hypocrisy! The secular press concerned about any movie's effect? Yeah, right.

"I fear this movie will breed hatred for Jews," many writers state. I assume they do not know Jesus was born a Jew. I personally do not know any Christians who hate Jews or blame them for the death of Jesus. The death of His only begotten son was God's master plan; it was the only way you and I could be redeemed. Jesus' journey to Calvary began at time the Holy Spirit came upon Mary and she conceived. Since the blood type in babies is determined by the father, not the mother, it was God's blood that flowed through the baby Jesus and God's blood that flowed from the adult Jesus at Calvary, and only that sacred blood has the power of redemption.

Acts 20:28 "Keep watch over your-selves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which He brought with His own blood."

Some of you may ask if God is spirit, how could He have blood. The Blood of God began when He became flesh in Jesus. Remember, fully human and fully God.

If Mary had known Joseph, the blood flowing in the baby Jesus would be from Adam. In Adam, all die; in Jesus, all live. The shed blood of Jesus at Calvary did not result in death - its result was life eternal.

Without the virgin birth, there is no perfect sacrifice, no sacred blood, no saving blood and no Calvary. Calvary was God's redemption plan. Neither the Jews nor the Romans can take credit for God's redemption plan. Please notice I said credit, not the blame. Calvary is the greatest event that ever happened on this earth. It was for the glory of God, not the condemnation of any nation or people.

And that, my friend, is it - the real reason for all the fuss. The secular press, the national news, and many others, are being used by Satan. The ole boy has his hands full. He's been real busy trying to stop as many people as possible from seeing the movie. Why? Because the shed blood of Jesus at Calvary brought redemption and eternal life to those who believe, and eternal separation to Satan and his crowd.

Now, let's talk a minute about the secular press' concern about this bloody movie and its effect on our children. Again I say, what unmitigated hypo-crisy! How many stories have any of us read in our daily press about the uncountable number of murdering, bloody, filthy, everything and everyone being blown to bits movies? We could all write a long list of this kind of movie trash that flows daily from Hollywood. But we don't see them condemned in the papers or on the news. I assume there is no concern about the effect these movies will have on our children.

I have not been inside a movie theater in years, but I'm a fixin' to go see the "Passion." I may go several times, because I really enjoy giving the devil a bad hair day.
