Prescription Drug Profits

Pharmaceutical companies have a lower tax rate
than other companies.

Despite claims to the contrary, the federal government
pays for most basic science drug research.

Drug companies spend nearly three times more for
advertising and marketing than they spend for
research and development.

Drug manufacturers spend nearly $25 million for
federal campaign and committee contributions in
2001-2002.

Drug manufacturers have contributed more than
$15 million to front groups in support of the House
Republican Medicare prescription drug bill.

The drug industry employs more than 600 lobbyists,
more than one for every member of Congress.
