    Shorinji kempo

Tucsonbill, thanks for the example. I can see why slow is important at first. Very interesting technique. I look forward to trying it with uke, thanks again. TDWoj, I wouldn't want to make any trouble. I'll hang tight for now. Charles, As you know, It's called What Is Self Defence? (Kenpo...

    Shorinji kempo

I see what you mean. I have a copy of Mitose's book, and it is full of typo's and errors. Also most of the techniques look more like basic karate than any thing else. Thanks for the clarification. What I am also curious about is which Aiki techniques did Do Shin So include in Shorinji? I think...

    Shorinji kempo

"Shorinji" is Japanese for "Shaolin". "Kempo" means "fist law". It is rooted in the Chinese expression "Chuan Fa" which means "fist method". The Hawaiians ( including Mitose's Student, William KS Chow) replaced the M with an N thus calling their art "Kenpo".

    Have you meet Mr Seagal?!

I live in Ashland, Ore, very close to Mt. Shasta. I have always hoped to run into him on the streets of our town. I vizualized pressing my palms together and saying "tashi deleg, Tu Jiji" which is Tibetan for" hello"and "thank you", and allowing the man his space. Well he did pass through the...

    Drill Punches?

Ive found that it is really hard to take a wristlock, such a kotegaeshi, when a person is punching quickly at you. It is much easier to spin around behind nage and grab his collar ( or use an atemi). One other thing I have noticed. Don't grab the wrist at the full extention of the punch, but...

has steven segal studied wing chun

In "Glimmer man", Seagal Shihan appears to be doing Wing Chun, as well as in "Into the Sun". While he may not have formally studied Wing Chun, He most likley has the ability to quickly "absorb" any style he chooses and work it into his choreography. Wing Chun is actually an excellent style to...

    entering the dalai lama

seagaljr, It made me happy to read your news on this thread. It is great and wonderful how the Dalai Lama makes himself available to all the followers. My Aunt met with him many years ago, and told me how lovable he is. Dharma is medicine for all of us. by the by,Rinpoche, the Lama I worked...

    Seagal Studying Ju-Jitsu?

Hello Aikilove and Tenshin, Perhaps I should stand as corrected. I made an assumption (not the best thing to make). I made this assumption because some of the things I see on the film don't just "look" like Traditional Judo/ Jujitsu techniques. He does them perfectly. Another assumption I...

    Seagal Studying Ju-Jitsu?

Hello Friends, One thing that intrigues me about Steven, is that when I watch "path beyond thought" I see him do techniques that are right off the boards of my Dojo. I study Dan Zan Ryu Jujitsu. One example, is where he takes hold of Uke's sleaves and slides his butt between uke's feet while...

    Does anyone know Duran Shihan?

Hello Rinpoche, I hope I am spelling Lama's name right, but his accent is very thick. Believe it or not, I met him working in an Punjabi restaurant, here in Ashland, OR. Where he was helping out. But what he really is doing is helping two of his female disciples put a Tibetan Center together...

    Does anyone know Duran Shihan?

Rinpoche, You wear the robes of a lama. You must have a deep Vajrayana practice, as well as being a direct student of Seagal Shihan. You don't look very old (at least not in the body). You wouldn't happen to know Lama Loden, would you? He moved up here from the Bay Area and It sounds like thats...

    Does anyone know Duran Shihan?

Thanks for the clarification Aikilove, it is embarassing to mispell a professer's name. I did have the privalige of attending a class taught by Doran Shihan, but at the time I was not savvy enough with Aikido to walk away with much technique (I did walk away with a sense of awe). I had the...

    Does anyone know Duran Shihan?

Hello Friends, I havn't posted in several years, but thought I'd drop this one today. I have been studying Jujitsu for five years and have a strong Kenpo backround. Lately I have been thinking of switching to Aikido, because Jujitsu is very hard on the body. There are three Aikido Dojo's in my...
