The Aikikai is "killing" the martial side of Aikido

We should all understand that Aikikai is an umbrella orginization, not a "style". So you will see different Aikikai instructors teach in different ways and with different intent...my opinon, for what its worth!!!

    Seagal's Top 10 Students

Jorge Angulo, Larry Reynosa and Luis Santos ARE NOT students of Seagal anymore. As for a couple of the others, they are what you can refer to as "seminar students" meaning they never really trained to extensively with Take Sensei, but maybe had some seminar experience with him and are now...

    Steven's Tai Chi, Karate?

LOL ok ok gotcha....sorry for the mix up. Some people however, do think that when they see him do something in his movies, well he MUST have studied it. And that is certainly not the case. But again, sorry for that mix up and yes, thank you for the clarification!!!

How effective would aikido be in a cage or ring?

I call BS on this for many reasons. How long did you study Aikido??? What particular flavor of Aikido did your dojo practice? What was the main motive for you studying Aikido and who were your Sensei under? I ask for specific reason. I have been studying Aikido for well over 15 years. I...

    Steven's Tai Chi, Karate?

The moves in Under Seige that you are stating are Kali are in fact also found in Aikido. In regards to Belly of The Beast, that movie was choreographed and not by Seagal (although i am sure he, as always, had his input).

    Steven's Tai Chi, Karate?

This is fact. He has choreographers for most of his films, and they have inlfuence in certain aspects of fight scenes. Not saying that they soley direct the fighting scenes, but add thier flavor along with what Seagal Shihan already does. If you notice, in his earlier films, the fight scenes...

How effective would aikido be in a cage or ring?

I agree Don, and I am not sure why certain rules are in place because, as you pointed out, submissions/chokes are dangerous in and of themselves. Alot of arm bars (juji gatami) are also used but several joint and bone locking techniques are prohibited. Again, I do not know why, but it would be...

    Steven's Tai Chi, Karate?

He has trained and studied Aikido, Judo and Karate!!! The other chinese influenced martial arts you see in his movies are the product of fight choreographers not Seagal Shihan!!! Hope that helps!!!
