How effective would aikido be in a cage or ring?

As a whole, Aikido would not be effective in a "sport fighting" match. However, some of the concepts like kuzushi and irimi would be a benefit to any cage/ring/mma fighter.

Whoa. This is a scary, but a curious thought. It just came to me after reading a few postings

We all know that Norris has jumped the shark. He's become an old right wing nutbag. Speakman? Didn't he get fat? Hard to criticize someone when you can't see your own penis without a mirror. However, Bas could have beaten Seagal half to death now or in his prime.

The Aikikai is "killing" the martial side of Aikido

Seagal is ranked in the Aikikai and his Aikido is pretty pure Aikikai so the quote is fairly hypocritical considering the stance you take in the rest of your post. The Aikikai is more concerned with self-promotion and preservation/perpetuation of their organization than imbuing actual martial...

WAGO DOJO AIKIDO official school of Shihan Steven Seagal

You are in France and you are associating yourself with Seagal? This makes no sense considering their are more talented Shihan who live in France and are under the Aikikai umbrella as well?

Steven Seagal training Anderson Silva Video

Donald, I completely understand them not allowing small joint manipulation. It's a sport, and as such it has to have rules to make it competitive and less "brutal". The reason they instituted weight classes and so many rules is because MMA was essentially banned because of the brutality. They...

Steven Seagal training Anderson Silva Video

I agree that Seagal needs to lose some weight, but I could honestly care less if he does another movie. I've watched his recent movies, but I never find myself going back and watching them over and over like his earlier films. Obviously putting out DTV movies keeps his bank account healthy so...

Steven Seagal training Anderson Silva Video

I think one of the more interesting parts is at the 4:00 minute mark. It's dark so I can't see well but it looks like he takes Silva down with kotegaeshi. One of the big criticisms I hear about the Aiki arts is that the techniques can't be performed if a person doesn't throw a "zombie" bunch and...

Steven Seagal training Anderson Silva Video

I looked around and didn't see this posted yet so I figured I'd throw it up here. It's video of Segal showing some Aikido to Anderson Silva (UFC) in preparation for his fight with Chael Sonen (MMA). I found it particularly interesting as I train in Hakko-Ryu Aikijujutsu (Daito-Ryu derivative)...

Type in one thing that Steven Seagal and you have in common?

I'm going with two: 6'4'' and Aikido.

Lawsuit Against Steven Seagal Put On Hold

It's far from over. From the first post I gather this Kayden must have signed an employment contract with an arbitration stipulation (like you would find in any credit card contract). All this means is instead of the case being sent before a standard jury/judge it will be heard by a panel of...

    What the heck?

All the blind adoration is kind of disturbing. Seagal is far from the greatest man on the planet. He's supremely egotistical, a serial cheater, and there have been rumors of his sexually inappropriateness for years. However, the fact that this most recent case is being handled not criminally...

Seagal Being Sued for Sexual Assault!

Did the Prosecutor's Office (or DA) even hear about these accusations before she decided to sue? If not, it's obviously an attempt to extort money out of Mr. Seagal. I've never thought that he was the greatest person on earth, but drugging and sexually assaulting a young woman doesn't sound at...

Steven Seagal Pic Of The Day.

I came across the pictures while reading the Tenshin blog at http://www.tenshindojous.com/ Seagal and Fujitani's son Kentaro is now instructing at the US dojo.

    Seagal vs. UFC contender(s)

Hmmm... Not to be an arse or anything but I think alot of you guys are being blinded by your love of these stars and letting it throw your logic off. Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung are actors and their Martial Art "ability" is a part of their acting. I'm not saying that they aren't skilled...

    Into The Sun Reviews

Woohoo... Just watched Into the Sun... I just finished watching Into the Sun and I actually enjoyed it. It was such a step up from the last STDVD I watched (I believe that was BOTB). I always wanted to see him in something in Japan with a plot involving the Yakuza. In all reality with a...

    Genuinely excited....

I just watched the trailer for Into the Sun and I have to say for the first time in a long time I'm not dreading watching a Seagal movie. I've been a long time Seagal fan but his recent straight to DVD movies have been painful for me to watch and I avoided everything after Belly of the Beast...

Did the unthinkable (my Aikido journey)

Congratulations on starting Aikido! No matter who you are or how old you are there is no better time to start than now... I actually started training when I was in 3rd grade in Aikikai in Iwakuni, Japan. I was a runt and used to get beat up just about every day. I would hide in the nurse's...

I am now an Aikido student. *My Aikido diary*

I've been practicing Aikido (Aikikai) since I was a little guy and I have to say when you get to the point where you no longer need to think, when you no longer need organize your thoughts and you just do it because you've practiced SO much is reflex... it's amazing. Of course my reflexes...
