Movies A ****ty review of The Foreigner

Hi folks!

I am finally back from my 5 week holiday in Spain.

I'm sure all of you have already seen this crappy little review(if you can call it that) of The Foreigner by now but I couldn't see it posted here anywhere.

What a dick this guy is.

Moviehole review
Steven Seagal, Max Ryan, Kate Fischer, Sherman Augustus, Anna-Louise Plowman, Dianna Camacho

Despite his inopportune reception at the box office in recent years, seems Steven Seagal still has a few fans. After they see his latest dire effort though – they’ll be shredding their Seagal Posters with merriment.

A calamitous little piece without an insinuation of plot, “The Foreigner” is essentially one of the worst things Seagal has done in ages. Disappointing considering his last films – Exit Wounds and Half Past Dead – hinted he might be on his way back. The only place this one will be going is straight to the bottom of the Blockbuster shelf.

After 10 minutes of “The Foreigner”, you’ll be begging for something else. Anything else - as the on foot bludgeon smashes, bashes and lines up targets on a comprehensive sightsee of the world villainy.

It’s brief plot has something to do with a freelance agent assigned to deliver a mysterious package from France to America, only to find a slew of bad guys on his tail trying to stop the package from making it.

Seems Seagal’s career has hit rock bottom again with “The Foreigner”, despite his previous two films getting a rare theatrical run. But it’s not surprising why: This one’s got nothing of interest at all. The big-budget action sequences and humorous quips of the actor’s previous films are nowhere to be found here. Instead, we’ve nothing more than a shoot-em up, that as ashamed to say it as I am is even substandard for Seagal’s talent.

Finally, a note to fans, If this film is any indication as to what we can expect from Steven Seagal from here on in, I’d quickly pick out another fave action star.

Oh yeah and Kate Fischer doesn't(apparently)appear in this film according to the Action Kings website.

btw-From now on I will be posting as justice808

Another small review oF The Foreigner DVD..

The Foreigner (2003)

*1/2 (Audio: B, Video: B, Features: C)

Steven Seagal, Max Ryan, Sherman Augustus. Directed by Michael Oblowitz. Written by Darren Campbell. Produced by Andrew Stevens, Elie Samaha. Released by Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment. 2002. 96 minutes. Rated R.

Anamorphic, Dolby 5.1, trailers.

Chalk up another botched vanity project for the folks at Franchise Pictures, notably Elie Samaha and partner Andrew Stevens. This one didn't even get out of the gate and into theaters, a bad sign for the fortunes of Steven Seagal who has seen his clout steadily plummet into direct-to-video land along with the likes of Jean-Claude Van Damme.

In "The Foreigner" Seagal does his usual stony routine as an agent who has to fight off a never-ending barrage of bad guys, all trying to get some super-secret package he's delivering from France to Germany.

It plays more like a video game than a movie, except that viewers won't find it as enthralling without a joystick. Seagal also seems to be losing a step -- he's not as fast or as fun as he once was. Costar Sherman Augustus, on the other hand, is exhilarating to watch and nearly saves the film all on his own. Previously on display in "The Mexican," the fiercely good-looking and statuesque Augustus seems perched for action star status of his own -- if only the people who make stuff like "The Foreigner" would have the good sense to give him the shot.-David Lawrence

Collector Rating: STRICTLY FOR FANS

Here's another...

There must be an audience for Steven Seagal movies, but it's hard to imagine who would actually want to watch a movie like The Foreigner. Seagal, bloated and puffy-faced, plays a super-professional operative of some kind, who on this occasion is supposed to deliver a package from someone (it doesn't matter who) to a super-rich industrialist. The industrialist's beautiful blond wife tries to intercept it, Seagal prevents this, then decides to help her out, and lots and lots of people get killed in impractical and implausible ways. Almost every scene is so full of "mysterious" dialogue as to be incomprehensible. The Foreigner tries to create a veil of cool action attitude to disguise the lack of cool and the lack of action. Seagal mumbles. Seagal frowns. No one shoots Seagal, despite numerous opportunities to do so and no reason not to. Why was this movie made? --Bret Fetzer

Hi Leon!
Glad to see you back. I do hope you
had a great time!
As for these "reviews", they are nothing new.
We've heard all of this stupid crap before!
As most of us have always said, "We'll see the
movie and decide for ourselves. None of us have
ever taken any dumb-bell "reporter's" word for
anything!" 99 % of them are deaf and blind,
or at least that's the way they come across!
God bless,
Mama san

:) Hello everyone,
Its good to see most of the good guys here on this site. I was Bahamas Mike on the Seagal message board(the official site). I really missed posters like Casey, J. Lucas and Suzie Wong and am glad to see them all here and that this site is run in a much more professional manner. If the Seagal.com site comes back in the same way on the message board that it was before I won't be ever posting on that side again and will just check in for the latest news.
We'll I have seen both Half Past Dead and The Foreigner and have the Foreigner dvd and have seen it several times already..I thought both movies were pretty good but I think that I liked Foreigner better because it was a more serious film than the pg-13 teenage action flick HPD. I was shocked to see that it tanked at the box office though the way it did. It had it moments and I thought Seagal did a good job.
I was very happy to see that Seagal is signed to make "The Rescue" and especially "The Yakuza". I know that he is supposed to be making Out for a Kill and Belly of the Beast but I'm trying to remember what "Belly of the Beast" is about-CAN SOMEONE PLEASE REFRESH MY MEMORY?
I've also been very concerned about Mr. Seagal's comings and goings with this ongoing mafia thing and it is very serious. I'm just shocked that the media and those stupid critics are continuing to thy and paint Seagal as the bad guy in every thing that comes up..
Well, I'm gonna stop at that for now. Its good to see your doing well Casey(Mama San). To everyone else overseas-glad to be back..I see its pretty cold in some areas overseas now too-well, its in the mid 80's here Farenheit and the beaches are full.. Eat your hearts out...

Hi Mike
I only joined recently and Im certain that this is the best Seagal site on the net. Everyone is so nice here and its great to be able to share our thoughts about Steven. Fortunately Half Past Dead is in our theatres here at the end of February, dont know about the Foreigner though.
Down here in Adelaide Australia it is a balmy 90 fahrenheit, and a cool breeze is beginning to blow. I can smell the sea and life is good.
Peace and Love

Mike,
Great to hear from you. There are a lot of the good guys
on this board. Glad to to see you decided to join us.
I also like the Foreigner, can't understand why it did a least not
make a go at the theaters. Some of the other films that I
have watched in the past year were certainly no worse and
they at least made somewhat of a showing in theaters. Wish I
could help you with details of Belly of the Beast but I have
forgotten also.
Take Care,

Pat/Aggie from old board

 Thank You mandypuss and pat for the welcome back. I missed all of you good guys as well. Its good to see a clean board for a change and one that is well monitored.
Yep Mandypuss, Winter here in the Bahamas lasted about 2 weeks and now its back to clear blue skies and sun again.
