read this. Of course it's a short explanation. The best way to understand is readind a book for buddhist begginers.
The buddha represents wiseness, enlightement. The buddha is someone who reach out something we can maybe call perfection. But he's not a god as christianism (for example) 'cos' someone wise hasn't the power to direct de lives of the man or to provoque resurrection or stuff like that.pantera said:

I have a question to toss at you about your above quote. You stated that it is wronge to change religions (from origional religions, or ones a person was raised in). Where you raised to be Buddhist?
Mr. Seagal has a Catholic mother and a Jewish father. Do you think he was a Buddhist before he went to Japan? I do not think so. I think he was influenced by the Japanese people while he lived there.
I think most people embrace the religion of their parents. Only when they become adults do many change, unless they were not raised in any particular religion altogether.

When one surrenders to the Buddha - the Buddha nature which is Compassion for All Lives - one ceases to exist as an individual and becomes Compassion Itself. When one becomes Compassion (or God or whatever "name" we choose), only That Exists - not the individual. One doesn't "become God" - one merely merges into God and at that moment, only God Exists.

I wanted to thank you for your answer. I am not sure though if it answers my question. We all do though have build in a need to know and grow closer to God. In the Christian faith you live your life to be more "Christ like." We do not become gods or a god. In the Buddha religion you become a god? Or try to live like God would want you to live?

I prefer buddhism 'cos' in christianism if something happens it's the will of god.
In buddhism, you provoque all the evenements yourself, the good ones and the bad ones. By your attitude, your tought, you create your chances or your ubhappiness yourself. In christianism, if good things happen, people thank god, if something bad happens, god try to see if your faith is true. Furthermore, in christianism, god is someone existing beyond us. He's someone real but you can't see him (except few people who have seen him or Mary). In buddhism, Buddha is just a symbol of enlightment. It's what you are if your full pf compassion for all the world.
Everything I explain is of course my way to see things. If I take Christianism to compare with buddhism is not to be bad with thoese who believe in god. It's 'cos' it's the only religion i know enough to explain what i think.

Why would anyone get mad? You did not slam anyone. I can say that I have heard those quotes used before. I have not been a big fan of several of them. Many people have seen God. In Bible times when Jesus walked the earth.

You're right, it's the reason why i like this forum. Everybody can speak about evreything. We have poinst of view from all over the world. It's a good thing to learn many different stuff (not only about steven seagalJulie Scarborough said:
). To learn about many cultures, belief...You know even if i'm not catholic (i'm sure you noticed it), i've got a bible at home. For me being interest in other religions or cultures is a way to learn about people, a way to be more tolerant and of course a way to have a bigger general culture.But those subject are often burning ones. So when i write on this subjects i'm always scared to hurt people (whitout doing it on purpose). Especially, i don't write in my mother language. So i'm scared to be misunderstood!
