Buddy's last laugh

US comedy legend Buddy Hackett has died.

Hackett, who was 78, died at his southern California
beach house, his son Sandy Hackett said.
Hackett declined an offer to join the Three Stooges
when "Curly" Howard died in 1946. Instead, he made a
career with jokes about being short, fat and Jewish.

Rubbery-faced Hackett appeared for more than 50 years
as a top act in clubs, on Broadway, on TV and in such
movies as The Love Bug and It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad
World.
