I need some,um,what's the word.......INSPIRATION.
For tonight,I think I have attended the Aikido class that I fear may be my last.
Believe me,I have tried to enjoy the art and to absorb the philosophy and principles of it.....................but I just find the entire process to be not as enjoyable as I had hoped it would be.
I'm just finding major aspects of the art to be something of a huge pain up the butt.It doesn't help matters considerably that our Sensei is an uptight, pompous ass*ole with a particular penchant for making my life hell or that the particular place in which we learn it is a small, cramped sh*thole in comparison with where I learn Thai Boxing the night before (where there's a much nicer teacher,by the way),but there are other, more pressing matters that are forging my present disillusionment with the art of Aikido.
For instance, the warm ups we are asked to perform at the beginning of the class. We are asked to lean backwards with one of them, whilst standing.
"Er ,Sensei...........wuh,wuh,waaaaaaaaaah".Backwards I'll go tumbling one of these days.Does your back in and all.
Speaking of which,in another one,we have to lean far forwards with one of our legs which is a major fu*king strain on the other leg,I can tell you (and I'm sure some of you know.)
And finally, the one that really irks me,is where you have to sort of grab your foot with one of either hand and sort of wiggle it about.?!?
"Yo Sensei, you ever noticed this is unhygienic?"
After doing this,of course,we have to come into psyical contact with other members of the class.God knows what potential fungei infections I could be passing on to them (and they on to me,for that matter.)
Another things I'm not found of is the forward rolls you have to perform.I know their purpose is to forge your posture for your future in Aikido, but I am really not fond of them, especially the succesion of them you are called on to perform.
It's a real shame, because for all the things I dislike about Aikido, there are things I love about it.
I love the work with the swords, for instance, the Bokken. In fact,I think I might find a seperate class for this, because I derive an enormous sense of pleasure from learning this.Unlike the aspects I've described above.
So what I'm asking is,could anyone provide me with any incentive to carry on?I'd love for next week to go back with a renewed, optimistic attitude toward learning Aikido...........but at present moment,I'm giving serious thought to jacking it in.Could anyone inspire me to continue?
In Peace and Love,
Sascha
